How can a frigates defeat a battlecruiser and cruiser gang like that? Honestly I'm stumped; in my Rifter I can't even take out a destroyer sometimes.

It looks like an organised frigate roam killed a variety bucket home defense fleet there.
A lot of home defense fleets are a little bit rubbish so they often lose to organised gangs or a few skilled players.

It would just seem that the drones alone from the big ships would clear the frigs. And the kills all are around the same time so it's not like it was 1 by 1.

Most of the test frigates would have been popped almost instantly. The frigate gang has four wolfs, two retributions and a comet, which is about 1500dps just from those. So the stuff like the munins would have died in about 15 seconds if everything was firing on it at once.
Out of the stuff the home defense gang has, only the cane, rupture and the two munins are any real threat. So you can sorta see why it was so one-sided.

I'd read enough to know how something like that can happen
EDIT: FYI, Destroyers murder. MURDERRRR frigates. It's what they do. Anything larger, can actually be easier. -------

I have very nearly killed a ratting Geddon in a Taranis before. The only thing that stopped me was that I was convinced he was bait, I decided to go for him anyway.
I got him into Hull but I hadn't killed his drones because I was rushing - thinking his back up was on its way - it turns out there was no back up, his drones were chipping away at me and I didnt really have time to kill them before they killed me so I ran. I left him with 3/4 hull and kicking myself that I didn't take care of his drones first (like I usually would). We had a good laugh about it afterwards in local, he said he **** himself that he was about to loose his BS to a frig :)

Also, a good frig gang will patiently wait for hostile pilots to make a mistake so they can be isolated from their gang and popped quickly and out of range of their buddies. Which is more likely to happen in a "bring what you got" ad-hoc home defense fleet. - sig |

I recognise some of the names (bigbigpure1, T'Elk, etc) from their time in GW.
They're not very experienced at PvP but they are enthusiastic - so yeah I can see this happening all too easily. As long as they learn from it there's no problem unless you're one of these people who polishes their "efficiency"

Nice video, was fun to watch. But seriously you gotta tell them Cruor pilot to quiet down whilst on comms, he was asking for more reps the entire time he was taking damage.

People under estimate frig wolf packs and even T1 cruisers. With a competent fleet comp both can be deadly and if you think otherwise go welp a gang to it, but some of us know better.
The BC's & munins were really only a threat if at range being they were arti fit, once the frigs were on them it was game over. The rest were just clean up work.
Concordiat guys did a good job and numbers were possibly on the verge of a loss, but then again it was Test and they are pretty much like any other null bear alliance. Meaning they are good at carebearing & blobing but they don't understand game mechanics of small gang pvp.

Hotdamn was that roam fun, having it being livestreamed to the very people we were fighting just made it all the more awesome. Good fights were had, so I thank TEST for that.

:) One notes the oneiros providing logi support to the frigs (which are all armor tanked) while the test gang had no logi. Personally I prefer guardians but that's a very solid gang structure. Logi, fast movers with high dmg, able to get in under the guns of the cruisers and mitigate most dmg while the logi takes care of the rest. Logi is fast enough (if fit properly) to avoid most dps of the enemy fleet and as long as he waited to agress til the fight was certain he can always jump out if things got hot for them.
No real surprises in that fight. Honestly I'm just surprised the other 3 ships didn't die as well.

Ok, heres how it works, one frigate alone (good fits, also depending on the ship) do quite some dps, I've seen navy comets do 200dps alone, now take that 200dps x 15 and you have 3000dps, and a vindicator (one of the highest dps sub-capital ships in the game) does around 2000, its megathron counterpart usualy tops at 1200-1400, so when all of those 15frigates concentrate fire on one ship, it will die quickly. My triple rep hyperion has a tank of 1000dps on my explosive resist so 15 frigs would pop me pretty quickly.
Large or Medium guns trying to shoot the frigates are ineffectual because of the frigates low signature radius and speed and the frigates small guns easily dispatch drones, all of this allows 15 frigs to beat battlecruiser/cruiser gangs effectivly. Bigger isn't better, for the most part bigger ships can just mean a bigger target, this doesn't mean frigs are the badass's of the game nor that battlecruisers and battleships are horrible ships, it just shows how working together prevails, and tactics are better than skillpoints and ships.
I kill battleships with my thorax quite often, I have a friend who kills battlecruisers and even some battleships with his solo rifter in high sec can baiting. Bigger isn't better.
