Edited by: Benny Hill on 05/08/2011 08:52:06 I am looking to buy a tablet for my computer illiterate parents. Something easy for them to use.
It seems, that the Touchpad has a better gui and seems more intuitive. At statples, I could easily see the big planet thing for they web, and the standard display on the android displayed miniature browser windows (not good for parents using reading glasses) I am not sure though, I don't own any tablet, but will be teaching them how to use whatever I get them when I visit them. They do have wi-fi so I am not worried about that (because I set it up for me when I visit).
My big concern is getting a tablet with apps that can use large fonts, or a a tablet that can uniformly make all fonts large when possible. It may not be a real concern because I would imagine most app makers will eventually port to a HP Touchpad. I used both calendars on the Touchpad and the Android (3.0), and the font sizes were way too small (could not readily see if I could enlarge them though).
Anyone go through a similar decision?

I'm far from an expert on this, but doesn't android only come on samsung stuff? if so I'd advice against android. Not so much aobut android, just samsung tends to have problems more often with the touch-screens breaking in some way then other brands. some of my friends, co-workes got samsung phones in the past, and those samsung phones just seem to break down more often then non-samsung phones. Most of the time it's jsut a waranty thing and sending it in for repair is not much of an issue, just still have to call customer service, send it in for repair, be without your device for some time and all that crap.
off course that doesnt mean samsung is crap and everything else is unbreakable, just something to keep in mind, or at least ask salesperson aobut his opinion on it :) ----- GIEV custom ship paint jobs! I want my hello-kitty-kessie! |

My elderly parents (and I) have ipads. I know that isn't one of the models you asked about, but it is the easiest tablet to use, particularly for people with few computer skills. Most fonts go up to 56pt and there are a variety of zoom options and other accessibility features. |

I have an Acer Iconia Tab, to be honest with you. All of the tablets are in general, just about the same. They have their monir differences and some can do less than others.

Been playing with my new Galaxy Tab 10.1 (Verizon 4g). Definately a media tablet and nice looking, if that's what you want to get for your old folks. Or something versatile and cheaper, I think Asus EEE Transformer is an ideal laptop.
Was torn between the two, but in the end, I decided to go for Verizon Galaxy Tab because of the 4G. Asus EEE Transformer is only wifi, so no 3/4G services.
Only day one since I got it, just need to find some resources to make it 1337. ----------------------------------- Peace through power!
Google+ if you want to add. :) |
