These two games have lot in common. Both are spaceship based with very good an similar fighting methods. But there were some things in Nexus that I feel could work in Eve. There was this Fortress Shield which is kind of like a POS. A ship, and in eve it could be a specific ship like a cap ship, that has no guns could erect this huge shield and protect the fleet. So here is how it could work in Eve. A fortress cap ship couldn't equip any guns or any modules except a fortress module. When it activates the ship's shields will extend and gain a massive hit point increase. While in it ships can't shoot out or be shot. The fortress ship takes all the damage but it take s a long time to clear hit points. Special ships like titans can work their way through it though. And sub cap ships can create a siege cannon. They link their energy together and fire at the fortress shield causing lots of damage. Not nearly as much as a titan dooms day but they can fire far more often. So I think these two features should be added.

Have you ever shot at a POS? It's soul crushing work. The idea of a "mobile POS" that can be replaced by another one as soon as it dies holds little appeal to me. Plus it just encourages people to bring more people with more firepower while bringing more of their own "mobile POSs."

I am too a fan of Nexus, but such idea will not work in Eve. However if the shiled is not omnidirectional and has some limitations like using tremendous amounts of isotopes and being passable, then it could work as a sort of tactical move. Edited by: kerradeph on 08/08/2011 14:20:40 would be interesting. for some reason I see it being built off one of the ORE caps. and ya, make it a shield that takes all incoming damage from one direction and 45 degrees in all directions from that point. if it were based off the rorqual, have it turn and deploy a massive dish array that is emitting the shield.
as to the functionality, the ship and the shield have separate hit point pools (and as such separate targetable objects on the grid), but if either is destroyed, the other is too. if the ships is destroyed then it can no longer project the shield, and if the shield is destroyed the ships reactor can't spin down slow enough and it goes critical. the shield CANNOT be warped through, if you try and pass through it it will disrupt the warp and you will drop out and bounce away. this means that if there are titans or Moms on the field they can try and break the shield thus destroying the ship, of if there are enough sub caps they can go around the shield and destroy the comparatively weak ship. the shield projection unit would lower the repair capabilities of any repair mods on the ship, and would prevent RR from functioning on the ship. I'm sure I forgot some things here, but the general idea is layed out. but I still see it being either broken or being abused.
EDIT: only one can be active on the gird at a time and after one is deactivated, no other shield projection unit can be activated for 10 minutes.
