Why the hell are half the empire POS offline or just sitting there taking up space. Is this a thing? Am I supposed to contact the owner and buy the space?
Cant really take my cap fleet into .5 and wipe it out. Is there another mechanic.. and if not... why is this allowed for more than a month?

Any corp that just leaves stuff floating around like that is probably inactive, so just Wardec them and destroy the offline POS.

Edited by: MasterEnt on 07/08/2011 16:18:00 Just thought of that as I hit POST, but it would be cool if after a month, we could use some other cheaper mechanic.
Especially in .5 where i cant bring in the caps... LAME.

Sure. Why not?
If you don't want to blow it up, and don't want to pay for it, you're out of luck. Welcome to the world of scarce resources. |

What's so difficult parking a abaddon next to the pos and afk fire until the tower pops? They don't have shield active and don't go into reinforced, now do they? |

Edited by: mkint on 07/08/2011 16:33:31 I used to keep my POS in a 0.5 system. There was only 1 empty moon when I put it up. I only kept it online when I needed to run jobs, otherwise it was an empty offline tower so I wouldn't lose my spot. The system was a minor mission and trade hub, but the only trade hub for it's region, and some neighboring NPC null, and keeping my POS up there was a convenience issue.) Near the end of my time living in that area a POS cleanup corp mailed me warning they were gonna wardec me for the moon space. Since I didn't want to do a POS defense with my 1-man alt corp, I went ahead and pulled the tower down.
Later I had moved to a far distant region. I found a 0.5 sec system that was convenient to trade hubs, mission hubs, and lowsec where only about half the moons were used. I picked one that looked awesome visually, set up the tower and my bookmarks, ran my jobs, and pulled the tower down altogether. I didn't want to have to keep an eye on that character for wardec mails, or threat mails. After that point, any time I needed to put up the tower again, that moon has been empty. Every single time.
0.5 isn't crowded by default. Your ability to find a quiet system is the problem.

Does a cargo scanner work on the corp hanger? Or ship hanger array. To see if it's worth the war dec.

I'm sure there's a way to fit together a cap stable Abaddon with a full rack of Tachs and triple heatsinks. Won't have a tank at all, but you don't need one of those against an inactive empire corp. ----------

I wouldn't worry about it, when CCP remove all the ice out of high sec and don't change the number of available research slots, the price of ice will be so high that very few corps will be able afford to put up a pos :)

You're stupid.
Anyway, on-topic, geddons are indeed the way to go. AFAIK I'm the only person to solo a large POS with a sub-cap and I used a geddon. Signature locked for trolling and inappropriate content. Zymurgist |

I might be now that you mention it, for some reason several people I know believe that syncs are out of the game now. I'm reading patch notes but don't see any mention.
Where the hell did that rumor come from???

Might be? You obviously can't distinguish between the damage mod for lasers (which is what was mentioned here) and a (often offline/non-functional) mod used to reduce overheat damage (which wasn't, and which no longer works better than an empty slot.) A long while ago, CCP was talking to the community about this sort of thing. And a hacking mechanic was talked about a lot. That would allow people with the right skills and the right equipment to hack abandon towers and steal them make them their own and take everything that was left there.
Of course CCP with its A.D.D. Forgot about this like many many other things.
I still think a tower hacking stealing mechanic would be in line with how EvE works. As long as it was done right, was not something to easy to do required some sort of isk and skill investment to hack and steal towers. And to some time to do.

POSes need a rework more than any other mechanic in EVE. They were built broken. POSes need a rework more than Gallente need rebalancing (I even fly Gallente almost exclusively), and more than we need any more lame, ill advised w***e st0re stuff or space-barbie. Until CCP decides the actual game is more important than trying to polish a turd, we won't see vital game systems reworked.
However, since we're fantasizing about what won't ever happen, if adding a POS stealing mechanic was an option, I'd have it include the boring/tedious stuff that's easy to implement like hacking and skills, but I'd also have a layer of it that involves some kind of user created puzzle (like a safe-cracking mini game). Making the security against theft the player's responsibility would be appropriate for EVE.

I'm pretty sure a guy from Hydra did it a while back and he used a geddon also.
