I suppose the "size" column in the overview gives a bit of an indication, but is there any way to find out the current signature radius of another ship (including effects like target painters, rigs/modules, boosters, implants, etc.)?
There should be some way since it can be deduced by targeting the ship and using the formula for targeting delay (since ones own scan resolution and the targeting delay are knowns and the only unknown is the other ships sig radius).

Okay ... that stinks. Along with the velocity, an objects sig radius is the most obvious property to the ships scanners. It makes no sense to hide it from the pilot of the ship ...

Grab a target lock on the ship, see how long it takes to get a target lock. Apply math.
Yeah its a bit crappy ... but if you're in, say, an unboosted battleship locking a cane, you should see the difference between an armour and shield cane in the times quite clearly (assuming it isn't already running an Invuln and you can see it).
Since the variance in most fits is rather slight, you can pretty much memorize the sig radii for common ships and setups. EFT will give you the lock time for your fit against various sig sizes. EveMON will draw you a graph.
Should it be on the overview? v0v Possibly. -------

If you missed your lock time the alternative is to use your hit quality. Since relative speed is known, you could apply nasty math to get the sig radius. This is very statistically inaccurate.
Until CCP adds it, best bet is to just memorize some common signature values. What is even better is to just ignore that, and memorize common damage reductions some targets have.
You will soon learn that, for example, when you are in a HAM draek, a typical shield AF will take about 35% of damage, which will increase to about 50% if you land a web. If it has an AB the numbers are much worse for you: about 26% and 35% respectively. Precisions do not help really.
The more you fly your chosen ship, and the more different enemies you face, the more such data your brain will hold. _______________________ The best thing in EvE is Barrage M. |
