Over the last two years, every expansion released has been viewed as nothing but some form of life support to just keep it plugging along for another six months.
Has CCP declaired EVE a legacy game now? Legacy meaning very little maintanence and very little new content. CCP views EVE as being finished.
Thoughts?

No... At the moment Eve is just sideproject to CCP. Forever? Hope not. --- This is one of the moments where we look at what CCP does and less of what they say. Innovation takes time to set in and the predictable reaction is always to resist change |

Please, EVE is far from finished. For one there's still the new forums to release..
..then EVE is finished.

Legacy that keeps giving them $$$? I'd say EvE is a good business ruined by WoD/DUST development cost. CCP is just to proud/stubborn to admit making a mistake. Unless new systems, new non-CQ features and especially bug fixes are introduced. I fear the worst for the future of EvE.

IIRC the terminology is BLOCKED, and if people don't care about my opinions they shouldn't be forced to hear them. At least it will be the end of the "Tom Gerard is a Troll!" accusations.

CCP likes to use the "sandbox vs amusement park" analogy to protect themselves from being criticized on this very subject.
After all, why should they produce content when the players are supposed to be the main attraction?
Petty excuse from both a business and developer standpoint imo, but its worked well for them with this particular crowd of gamers. |

Sandbox was before Incarna. Eve sandbox ended the moment NEX items were indestructible. Do they know that they just contradicted themselves when they did that? Was their need for cash so great they were willing to sell anything?
They have no idea, but they are becoming what they have always say they wouldn't be. Changes is constant, either for the best or the worst. This time it's the latter.

I would like to see you run a business where you produce content constantly for free. While trying to balance in development costs, while upgrading a super computer to run your servers, pay tech support, gm's, and a overly busy art department. Even blizzard entertainment only makes 35% profit. Take a second to consider how much of that profit comes from buying expansions.
Also, are you really that upset you can't destroy an item that is generated out of game, bought from out of game sources, and is for nothing else than to change your portraits appearance? Or is it the much needed factor of it being an isk sink?

ok blizz profits 35%
they are constantly developing the next expansion for wow Diablo 3 the next patch for wow the next patch and expansion for starcraft 2 confirmed working on a new MMO release in 2012. new localizations for wow, and other games.
CCP is making dust, WOD and eve patches... sorry but the last "expansions" are really content patches. ur arguments are void.
i think the NEX store is fine, as long as nothing changes the way the game is played... dress up barbie in space items are fine, coloring ur ship is fine. but let it all be destructable

i don't understand how not making clothing destructible destroyed the game. does it make sense in the fact that your clone always has these clothes on hand? not really. is the game gonna blow up because you cant set the pants on fire? not really. ôWhat we imagine is order is merely the prevailing form of chaos.ö

It could be said Eve Online is a relatively complete game. Sure their are bugs and fixes required but if they never added any more content from this point forward it would still have more content than any 3 MMO's put together, not to mention supporting a wide variety of player types from Economic Driven players, PvPers and PvErs.
In its own right Eve Online is probobly the most unique playing experiance you can get on a PC (or anywhere else for that matter) on the planet.
If they just left it as it is today and kept it running, their will be people playing it for another decade. I dismiss anyone who thinks the game would suddenly die as a result of shortage of updates and expansions. It will certainly get smaller and decline over time, but when you consider that games like Ultima Online and Star Wars Galaxies are still around with healthy communities its hard to imagine that a game like Eve would suddenly fold over night.
Legacy? I don't know, but whatever they do or don't do with Eve, this game will be around for many many years their is no question in my mind.
Furthermore I suspect that in the future Eve Online like many MMO's will land into the indie sector and we will see Eve mini servers running like we do today with Wow, Star Wars Galaxies, UO and many others.
Eve is far from dead.. is its seemingly endless rise over? Maybe.. but dead? not even close.

So far not yet legacy but around 10 000 users left already. Where from the number? Two month ago regular players in EVE Europe time was 33-35 000. Today its between 18 to 24 000. You can see the numbers before you log on to game. With this pattern of quitting EVE will become legacy in 2-3 month period.
As for Messiah 35% income of Blizzard. I really like when people make true statements with false tone attempting to pervert the facts. It makes me laugh. 35% of Net profit is HUGE success and every business in PC gaming industry MMOs dream of having this kind of profit. It's not only 35% its entire 35%.
And EVE was a very profitable thing in fact so profitable that CCP decided to make two games more mostly from EVE income. So you can judge how nice profits was that they decided to take on two games and now they again making a mistake in attempt to raise EVE profits more then possible. Stretching the base and losing it.

Not for much longer on that one...and I wouldn't exactly call SWG's population healthy. It hasn't been for quite some time now.

Seeing as how most EMU's tend to be private ventures that, out of necessity, need to fly under the radar, I sincerely doubt that someone could successfully come up with an Eve EMU with all the computer power it would be required to have.
Aside from that, I don't think Eve is going anywhere anytime soon, personally. I just started playing again after being away for about 3 years (and that was my first go at the game...I lasted a couple months then), and, for some reason it's much more enjoyable for me this time around than it was. The NeX doesn't bother me either way...it has absolutely no bearing on my enjoyment of the game. The CQ got a few hours of "oooh" and "aahh" from me...but it didn't take me long to find the Station Environment setting. The old hangar bay was always on the "meh" side for me, so losing it wasn't all that much of a heartbreaker. As for the reported RMT comments from the PTB, my thought at the time was "So, it's not like I've never seen this kind of thing from a MMO company before".
To be honest, the stuff I'm seeing right now is merely a bunch of doomsaying, like those guys that walk around with signboards shouting "The end is nigh!"...I give it about as much credence as the doomsaying around here. (Of course, I'm pretty sure that attitude will bite me in the butt one of these days...The upside is that I won't be bothered by that either for very much longer after it happens. :) |

Eve is dying, really, just look at your normal local, you can see it has died off, Eve has lost its appeal to lots of people now.
People are just playing out subs and consuming ISK as PLEX most likely.
The markets have died off in Rens, the local has died off, the spirit of Eve has died off.
It is just going to be a slow death.
2011 Christmas is going to be a HUGE year for MMO releases, SWTOR, GW2, D3 and more.
They expect people to pay ABOVE PREMIUM prices for a sub premium game on life support. Ludicrious especially when cheaper PREMIUM games are comming in a few months.
Abandon ship, stop injecting NEW cash from your credit cards into Eve, start consuming OLD money via PLEX.

Not if CCP high brass management put their heads where these should be and start making real improvements to the game. There is still enough people and enough time to save it from disaster. Players already said and did everything possible. It's CCP turn now.

Guild Wars 2 :) funfun sure its not dark and empty space but fun none the less, even uplifting due to its use of actual colours and dynamic gameplay :)
SWTOR, yeah its gona be farmed big time, as will Diablo 3 auctions (and watched by the tax man).
2011 and 2012 are big MMO years :) No reason to stay with Eve.

Who has viewed Eve last 2 years as "no new content"? There was changes in empire, in zero-sec, everywhere. Even CQ was a change.

OP: How do you support the claim that the last expansions have been seen as nothing but some form of life support? I agree there's been plenty of ragetrolling, but that's normal for EVE. I'd start to worry if we had an expansion and NOBODY came out and called it the end of EVE.
The way I see it, we have a strong playerbase, sometimes more sometimes less, we have a lot of content, we have a great community. I mean just look at the number of Podcasts dedicated to EVE. I don't think we ever had more.
True, the game has seen better times in some aspects. True, there's some serious balance and bug issues. True, CCP has just gone through some major screwups and are busy making amends.
It's not like the community ever agreed that EVE was fine as it was. Ever. Some of us idealize "the olden days" for the gameplay we had back then and no longer have no for various reasons, but I really don't think so very much has fundamentally changed, except maybe CCP growing into a larger company.
