Having a couple of problems with speed tanking. Was trying to run some L1 missions in an Executioner until I can pilot a Punisher but I'm just getting slaughtered out there. I tried running a resist mod and a small armor repairer but it just ate my cap up too fast.
Someone suggested speed tanking and after looking at most of the executioner fits on battleclinic I decided to give it a go. I fit 2 Gatling Pulse Lasers, AB and Web, and 2 overdrive injectors. My optimal range is 2625 so I set my orbit to 2500 but for some reason I cannot orbit any tighter than 3000ish and the NPCs still seem to hit me without too much trouble although I cannot hit them back. What the hell am I doing wrong? Are my skills just too low to do this?

Edited by: Lady Go Diveher on 09/08/2011 21:58:50 Before really replying any further, I would whole-heartedly point you towards completing all the combat tutorials AND the Epic arc before heading out into Eve. They're going to answer a lot for you.
Your main issue is that your ship is a very low tier frigate. By the end of the epic arc you should have a pretty decent Punisher (or cruiser ... but I recommend sticking to the Punisher which does the speed tank thing very well) which will be fit sufficiently to do level one missions.
You will orbit tighter with nanofiber installed, more skills in navigation (ship agility) or a lower speed. Probably the best thing to do without complicating things too much is to just orbit at 500m with the afterburner on for the approach, but off during the orbit. This will keep you quick enough to avoid a lot of damage, save capacitor, and allow you to get better hits in.
But really, do go do the epic arc. It's a rite of passage. -------

Hmm don't know where the epic arc starts. I've still got to do the advanced combat training though. I thought I would put that off till I got a punisher, but I'll give it a go. I've done the rest of the tutorials on another character and I really don't care to go through all that again. Thx for the info though.

Tutorials aren't necessary on a per character basis ... but the epic arc is worth a chunk of standings, so it worth repeating anyway.
Get yourself to Arnon, and dock at the sisters of eve station. Talk to sister ali ... (sp? it's obvious) and she'll get you going.
They get progressively harder. Don't be afraid to ask for help. -------
