My plan was to make robotics from a single plasma planet, as several guides I have read stated it was possible. I was looking up the power needs with a level 5 CC and something doesn't seem to be adding up. I need 4 basic factories, 3 advanced, and at the bare minimum 4 ECU with one head each, links, etc. If a level 5 CC has 19k PG, how in the heck do you fit it all on one planet? Were the guides stating more that the resources for robotics COME from one planet, and I was misreading that you could actually buy one CC and come out with robotics? Or am I messing up the minimum facilities necessary to make a specialized commodity? Either way I acknowledge the fault is likely mine.
If I can't make robotics from one planet, are there any suggestions for mediocre-ly profitable, uncomplicated P2 products I can get from one planet? My goal is to not make PI a primary income source, just something different to do while I explore and do hacking/archaeology sites. Thanks in advance.

Just try producing POS Fuel like uranium or coolant, or mechanical parts. It¦s uncoplicated and PIOS Fuel is always needed.

In brief - not if you are looking to keep things simple.
It's possible to make a single P3 on a planet but to do so you need to be alternating the extraction of resources, possible but far from optimal.
P2s are still viable (though not optimal) and are good for "let it generate a bit of income" situations. Go for anything which is used as fuel or in production and you cannot go too far wrong.
The guides you read are probably outdated, this used to be quite viable in the early days of PI.

Edited by: Devemaal on 10/08/2011 13:18:20 I think it used to be possible, before the ECU was introduced. It is perfectly possible to make a T2 on a single planet. Which one to make depends on what planets you have access to and there quality = system sec status. Other than that just check what the most valuable T2 you can make is and do that.
What also have a large impact is how much time you are willing to spend on PI. For example if you have access to good planets then its more profitable to only make P1 to sell, but its going to be allot more work to move all that P1 to Jita. There are simply alot of options on how you can do it, for example: Make only the most valuable P1 Make two P1 on diferent planets and put them together on a third planet. Make P2 directly on one planet. Make different P2 on many planets and P3 on one planet.
It kinda scales as, more work more profit.
As a tips on what P2 you could make, look into Coolant, Miniature Electronics, Rocket Fuel or Enriched Uranium. Thats just an example tho, i believe those are among the most valuable single planet P2s, but i could be wrong... And if you don't want to spend allot of time researching and figuring out how to setup your planets I would recommend doing P2 of a single planet just as the above posters says.

I was making a similar decision to yours the other day, as I am deep out in 0.0 where most of the products one could make aren't fast moving on the market. So POS fuels are the most assured bet.
I'm in the process of converting my Storm planet into an "in-house" Coolant production planet.
People have said that you can have as many as 13 heads, 4 BF, 2 AF, and a Starport. However, I've only managed to get 8 heads and everything else. I suppose my links are too long, and I need to condense the setup. Level 4 CC doesn't help either I suppose. I'm learning the lesson of avoiding a central hub with very long chains to what you need. Try and find where the hotspots are fairly close together. The PG you save could enable you to place additional extractors.
As others have mentioned, it's all about how much time you want to put into the process. Because I don't feel like flying 20+ jumps to haul stuff every couple of days, I'm taking the ultra-passive approach, so I only have to go out every couple of weeks. Or jumpclone out there :).

I've experimented with this and it doesn't seem a really viable option. At least not in high sec. Probably more likely in low or null. You are going to need your Command Center Upgrade trained to level 5 though that is for sure.

Thanks for the input everyone. I think I'll just leave this one planet making toxic metal and reactive metal, then start another planet to make POS fuel. Hopefully in the same system. I'm also trying to see what I can squeeze out with CC 4, as CC5 is a luxury I'm putting off while I get a lot of other skills going. Thanks again!

I used to make robotics for my corp from a single planet. I wouldn't say it was at all practical, and I probably couldn't make a whole lot of money at it, but it worked for what we needed.

P3 Products WILL NOT SELL.
They are pretty much used for nothing except making P4 products. A definite waste of time.
Neocoms, Datacores, Nuclear Reactors....they only sell very slowly when people run short of them for whatever reason. I have my occasional 'leftovers' sitting there for weeks at a time sometimes without moving.
So, if you cannot set up your system to finish a full-on P4, stay only at the P2 level, or the Specialized level like Robotics or Organic Mortar Applicators.
