Edited by: Roman Decker on 11/08/2011 05:30:31 I'm thinking of running L5 missions in low sec with a few friends. How can we set the overview settings to disctinguis between NPCs and other players. I'd like to see immediately any hostile that warps in and not have them blend in on the overview in red with the mission NPCs.
Any other overview tips for low sec appreciated - there may be things I haven't considered at all. Thanks.

You could change it so all neutral players have an orange background on the overview, even flashing if you like. I cbf loading up the game to tell you how but it is pretty obvious.
I have my usual pvp overviews not showing npcs. I load up another one when I'm doing lvl5s which shows npc and probes as well as ships. When I pick up a ship on short range scan I change to a pvp overview tab.
Remove all unnecessary clutter from overview like poses, drones, etc so all you need to do is click scan and you can see everything without scrolling.
I would just dock up if you aren't confident you can put up a fight. If people try mess with me I hang around but I run 4 x rrbs with eccm and points etc.

Overview settings - Appeareance - Background
x in Pilot has neutral standing, and you can also choose the color
I think the default grey is fine, it still shows clearly amongst the npcs and doesn't confuse when having lots of player ships on overview.
I use a "clear PvE" tab in lowsec, which has no LCOs, wrecks or that sort of clutter, actually it is just like the PvP tab but with NPC ships. Make very sure you have probes visible.
In general if a player ship gets on your grid, you are late for escape- monitor local and spam dscan to spot combat probes and incoming ships and you are quite safe tbh.

Did they change it? Last I looked Probes weren't in the overview settings.
Regardless, the two above posters are right, switch the background color of neutrals to make them clearly visible.

Sure, Scanner Probes are located under Charges in the filter settings.

Awesome. When did that happen? I'm going to have to redo some of my overview settings when I get home and make some low/null/WH ones maybe.

They added probes to overview in Incursion which was end of November iirc.
