I'm asking null-sec region wise. Which region has the most bots running around farming the **** out of belts/plexes/etc?
Motivate your answer if possible.

Edited by: Tautut on 11/08/2011 22:43:58 Plenty going on all round the systems neighbouring Jita.
Try Unpas .. I think all 12 bots I spotted and reported weeks ago are still there. Different corps but exactly the same fit. All missioning Spacelane Lvl 4s. I'm sure there were plenty more.
I'm convinced that the all the 'report bot' button does is dispense ice cold beer on to the GMs desk.

Drone regions. Avoid Cobalt Edge and Outer Passage though, these areas are generally blobby, hostile, and not as botty as the others.
Ravens and Tengus on scan generally means they're at a belt, carrier/supercarrier on scan generally means anomaly. Seems to be common ship types for these bots.

And would checking dotlan maps for most npc kills/hour be an efficient way of sniffing out the hot spots?

Yep, best way to do it. Just don't stay in the hot spots for too long, they will eventually form up and blob you.

There are a lot of factors that alter the chances of those being bots. Especially if the space is being patrolled by a large corporation or alliance. In which case they too could be botting. As much as we would like to see this issue disappear over night. It needs to have stronger repercussions and a more caring player base.

I was on the understanding that most ratting bots just warped to a safe, if somebody entered local. It was certainly my experience that they safed-up. I just ended up petitioning them in the end - it was far too frustrating trying to catch them, and time wasted

Bots like to run to safespots and log off, or warp to a tower and orbit it.
However, There are plenty of offline POSs out there that bots still warp to and think it'll be safe. The logged-off ones will log back in after x minutes (you do the same and log in with them after you timed the ammount of minutes). A 3rd option is to stay in system so long the bots whitelist you (not all of them actually do) but make sure you monitor your region. If a system suddenly spikes by 50 jumps its time to GTFO.
There are many more - possibly more effective tactics - that I don't know yet or won't share for obvious reasons.

This does not mean that its not possible to catch them. You can consider it as a small puzzle to figure out how to catch one. After you catch one, you may want to try find another.
Some may be more advanced bots, but I think people are using very simple ones just because they work and won't get caught too often with them. Just remember to click "report bot" from character info after you have killed them.
The ones I've seen are really bad and simple. Some run totally unattended, but occasionally the operators get on controls to save them up or stop the macro totally to fool the hunter to think that its not really a macro.
Some even are programmed to type stuff like "stupid scrambling rats. good one" to local after you kill them.
It's especially hilarious when you saw that there was no rats where you killed him
