so today i have been visited by a ninja salvager. i was used to them when i was still running missions in a hub and never had a problem with what they are doing.
didn't have one in months since i moved away. now here is the strange thing that i cannot find an answer to: at first we were playing the "warp-warp-out" game, as there still npc rats on grid and wanted them to aggress him. he kept coming back, i kept leaving. when suddenly i saw him leaving as flashy red. so this time i stayed and tanked the npc and opened fire as soon as he left warp. got out in deep hull. i tried my luck and warped out again, only to warp back in a bit of a greater distance. then suddenly there was a hurricane from another corp, also flashy. i gtfo because this wasn't right. it smelled fishy. no ninjas for several month and suddenly two of them...? i also had to go off unfortunately for rl reasons.
anyway, as i jumped back to my home system, i noticed three other reds in local from the corp of the guy i almost shot down, marked with "red with skull" (the little outlaw symbol - all of the red flashy guys had good standing). They were red for my corpies as well.
but i don't get it. please explain what happened.
thanks.
tl;dr: shot at flashy ninja, aggressed his whole corp. why?

No, It does not aggression when you shoot someone from their corp. The hurricane pilot was red to you because he had also stolen from one of your wrecks.
Probably what happened is that the three guys had just suicide ganked someone. <3 |

Of course you know that because he and hs friends were red to you -YOU were only red to the pilot you agressed. Unless of course you took something from a rat that he shot :D

ok, so first ninja loots a wreck/can with your tag on it. He therefore goes flashy red to you.
Second, and correct me if I'm wrong, but once you shoot at him, not only can he shoot back, but so can everyone in his fleet. Not corp (that's on your side). But fleet. This would explain the flashy reds from another corp.
Or, the 3 in your home system just happen to be doing bad things there, similar to the person looting your wrecks/stuff.
Word of caution, just because they are red to you does not mean you are red to them. But in this case with them being in the same corp, you were right to exercise caution and avoid them.

so it was probably just bad timing? i mean the hurricane coming in shortly after the destroyer got out and the other corpmembers from his corp going red at nearly the same time?
hm, cold very well be. all right, i can live with that.
i know that flipping wrecks and cans is often used to bait someone into a one sided fight, that's why i was on my way to dock my mission battleship after i almost popped the first flipper and noticed the hurricane.
ok, thanks a lot!

No. Only pilot you shoot. Aggression to whole corp only occurs if you steal from them. Shooting 1 guy wont share aggro.

no prob what happened is they were working as a team and when then ninja warped out he warped to his friend at a safe in the cane and the cane launched a single logi drone and repped the ninja to obtain aggro... this is a fairly common tactic and it s an easy way to get dumb people to agress you in there shiney mission boats. the other guys may have also been red for other reasons as said above but they could have also repped him just the same way so when you fired they could all rush in and lock you so you would freak out and shoot them to... happens often not much brains behind it and not a horrible idea when facing carebear newbs...

The thing that amuses me most about these tricks is that scrub PVPers in high-sec have to rely on them in order to get any kills at all and can't kill a PVE fit ship solo.

So remember kids, the only person that can shoot back at you is the one that you initially fired at. All the rest of them get flashy by manipulating game mechanics in an attempt to confuse you and get you to do something dumb.

Right. Thx. I'm a little weak on the hisec aggro mechanics.
Didn't think of the rep drones. That would do it as well.
