Edited by: Ditra Vorthran on 15/08/2011 19:59:47 Buy orders at Jita: Nanites - 2900 Data Chips - 45002 Gel-Matrix Biopaste - 52000
Total material cost for one run of Nanite Repair Paste: 99,902 / 10 NRP per run = 9,990.20 isk / NRP
Sell order for NRP at Jita: 7700 isk
Total loss = -2200 isk
Am I missing something?
tldr: a person loses 2200 isk per unit of making nanite repair paste.
Huh?

It's not unheard of. It's a symptom of "minerals/PI mats I mine are free".

Dunno what goes into gaining them materials sounds like PI ? Most likely reason is someone is getting all the raw material from their own planets so they are of course " free " .
Obviously nothing is free but there are quite a few people that think things are free if no isk changes hands to get them, is why people sell ships at a perceived loss because the ore they mined to get the minerals were free don't let it bother you too much

I'm currently at Jita and the price of the lowest repair paste is 12,045.69
So ... what are exactly ARE you missing?
And why would this 'guy' make a loss, when he bought your hypothetical paste for ISK 5,000 six jumps away?

I'm currently at work using Jitonomic, and I was under the impression that the data was no more than 24 hours old. I'll have to check it out when I get home.

The question is more "what are you missing" on this one.
The value of something is the price you can fetch for it. Not the price you paid. What you're saying now is just another version of "minerals are mine are free".

Please re-read the whole thread and don't quote things out of context.
The OP was under the impression, that NRP was traded for ISK 7,700.00 at Jita with prices for the components way higher (ISK 9,990.20). The OP thought, that Quote: a person loses 2200 isk per unit of making nanite repair paste.
I made a counter argument and said that the 'guy' could have bought the final product for way lower than the assumed selling price, and implicitly stating that he can not sell the components therfor.
I believe that this is a common practice for a trader (buy low, sell high) and has nothing, really nothing, to do with MIMAF.
That in fact the prices for NRP were much higher and that the fictional 'guy' would have 'lost' 4.3k per unit, selling for 7.7 instead of 12k, is his own business.
