I was just flying from one system to another, and suddenly got attacked by a massive amount of sansha ships. Insta-neuted and then got quickly popped. I didnt get any warning or whatever and lost stuff worth billions. There should be a similar system like when trying to warp to a low-sec system, this is just silly.

If it was "billions" you are just lucky that players didn't get you first.
The only way to be safe in eve is to not log in.

The OP does have a point. A lot of us (held in low esteem by "real" players)play the game AFK, semi-AFK, at work, watching kids, watering plants, etc. and just want a nice diversion from life. I hear that even PVP folks, at times, like to take their eyes away from the screen now and then. While no where in Eve has ever been safe, at least it was limited to players trying to gank you for various reasons. But at least you could deter many of them by just making it not worth it. If a live event happens to show up on your route in hi-sec, you might be set back a week or a month. Now, I could fiscally survive quite a few of my ships getting popped...but it would be a pain. Less well financed players might find it too painful and leave the game. And while many will say "good riddance," this game is geared toward many avenues of play. So, like the OP, it would be nice for we care bears if there was some sort of warning if you're about to jump into a whole pile of doo-doo. (I do realize that there would be programming "issues" in doing so, but aren't programmers really smart? <grin>) I look forward to your flames.

Or better yet keep live events random and fun. No point in giving a weeks notice so the system can be over-crowded and make the event a total debacle .

Live events are *supposed* to be out of the norm, and that one was custom made to Attack Shipping Lanes, whats the point if they make sure the players don't get their shipping lines affected?

I sat in the system of Jeras I think it was on one of the gates in a pod watching as Nighthawks a paladin tengus and other ships cramed with bling jumped in and got mugged by the sansha.
This was entertainment in itself as in the systems next door local was full of people typing in capital letters "DO NOT ENTER JERAS". Most people saw this and avoided the system.
Moral of the story... there is none really, its' eve online.
Keep Live events, erm...Live, and unpredictable.

Were the Sansha not visible when these people jumped into Jeras? After a jump you have a short time where you're cloaked so I'm curious how these people did not see a large group of Sansha pirates on the overview and then immediately jump back through the gate or warp to some random celestial. Maybe it's not a common practice, but I don't move after a jump until I have had a look at the overview.

Edited by: Molten Black on 17/08/2011 18:25:48 Well they have 15k to get back to gate with sansha webbing and scraming you not to mention jaming neuting etc.
Only ships i saw warp of were ships with a low sig radius such as frigs and some cruisers.
Also You should know this was no ordinary spawn. all gates in system and the stations had multiple BS's cruisers and frigs. Oh and on this gate also a sansha capital ship :) Once they jumped in they were dead tbh.

Ahhh I see, that would really suck! Warp in, gate is surrounded by Sansha rats and you have zero time to warp off or jump back out of the system...talk about up sh!t creek with no paddle and a hole in the boat.

Yes you do see all the sansha ships after you jumped in, and yes you're cloaked for a short while. But the gate looked too far away to make it back and thats why i immediately tried jumping to another gate. Thats when you decloak and pretty much get insta-neuted so you cant warp away anymore.

BTW, I should add that it wasn't long b4 a player fleet jumped into the system and killed them all, including the Kundalini Manifest (sansha capital) This was quite impressive as this fleet of players like you and me was organised in under 15 minutes. They were not flying cheapo ships either but did have swarms of logistics.
I am only guessing now but I would think this fleet formed either in the live events channel or an incursion channel. Yhis was after all a constelation under Sansha control in the first place in the form of an incursion.
I guess in future, want to avoid this happening then avoid incursion areas unless you are involved in ridding the constelation of the Sansha scum.

However this does change the economics of the game a bit. There are lots of goods traveling around in freighters and industrials AFK. The reason is that it is very unlikely that anyone will gank them as an experienced trader/industrialist will make sure it's not worth their while isk-wise. Of course the Sansha don't care as they are immune from Concord (why this is, I haven't a clue). A simple way to thwart this is to not AFK. Keep an eye on incursions and ensure that you don't go into that area, or scout ahead and ensure that if you do go through incursion space this little incursion "enhancement" isn't going on. Well, that's all well and good, but for low- and mid-profit items, that's not worth the extraordinary boredom of manually jumping 10,20,or 30 systems for many people. So less trading will go on and prices will go up. That's not to mean it is a good or bad thing, but it is a change.

If in a freighter, log off in cloak immediately. Your ship will vanish after 1 minute, not matter the neuts, webs or scrams. A freighter should be able to survive 60 seconds.
Edit: off course this requires not to be afk...

Yes, you are right. We engage all Live Events in incursion constellations with full force. At that point, 160 + pilots in fleet.

My BS had like 190k eHP and got destroyed in like 10 seconds after warp in. I doubt your freighter would ast 1 minute.

I just got a message from CCP that they wont reimburse the ship i lost that way because its not due to lag etc. You guys can call me a whiner or w/e, but i just dont want to spend all that time again in gathering all the isk for replacing that ship with the risk i can loose it in no-time again. If i had lost the ship due to ganking or w/e i'd be fine with it. Its common knowledge that that can happen if you use an expensive ship, but this is just too random and no way of avoiding it.

I'm sorry OP but appearently CCP did a good job there.
Let's get this straight:
New Eden is being invaded by Sansha. Of course there will be effects on everyone. I even expect things to get messier (like sansha blowing up stations with a lot of capsuleer's and their assets inside etc.) There is a war going on and you do have a way to fight back. If you hate this situation what you need to do is gather up a ship, go to nearest incursion area, get in a fleet and get your revenge by killing sansha and driving them to the worm hole they come from. ------------------------------------------- Die Amarr Die!!! |

Well if you insist trying to see this from the 'story side', then it still doesnt make that much sense: If Sansha invades some system, CONCORD knows this right away since they're flying around there, and there isnt any reason why they can't give any form of warning.

I love this sort of dynamic. But at the same time I wont kid myself that I wouldn't be annoyed if my pve BS was blown up by sansha while concord ran away. But lets keep this in perspective, how many live events of this sort has anyone seen. This is prob the second I have see first hand. But I dont see any reason why concord would not put out a warning, at least constelation wide. This would be in keeping with the story line a well.
IE: Hey guys it's concord, sansha have locked down system X. Please be advised there is no law and order in this sytem because concord are happy to stand by and see the people of this system harvested for slavery. Have a nice day.
I dont know the reasons why. But concord are happy to pay pilots to rid these systems of sansha but dont show up themselves. IMO it would be in keeping with the story and also "fair" if there is such a thing in eve to have concord issue apress statement warning each time.
Prehaps someone with more knowledge can comment on why concord pay people to kil the sansha but dont get involved themselves. Interested to know if there is a valid reason.

Concord is supported by Jove and the Jove's main goal is to make sure neither of the 4 factions will gain enough power to take any of the other 3 down. This is political and if Sansha grow to be a powerful fifth faction then Concord will not intervene. Just like in real wars .... they have a license to kill.

CONCORD gives you a warning.
THERE IS AN INCURSION GOING ON.
You can view where incursions are on the map and in the journal.
When you jump in you get a nice little popup about Sansha influence.
Seriously, it's not like you just got hotdropped in a random system by NPCs. You flew into a system with an active incursion. Just because you want to put 0 effort into your personal safety doesn't mean it's CCP's fault you died.

To get yourself into danger in an incursion, you have to warp to the site, and use the gate there. I was just using the gate to warp from system to system.

Heh, I wasn't being sacastic. The bit about Jove wanting no single race to become too powerfull does make sense. And I had not concidered that. The rest of it, well I dunno.
There is the argument of course that the Sansha invasions could force the 4 factions to work together and thus a more powerfull entity though. It explains why concord keep out of it, but I am still a bit confused as to why they pay pod pilots to kill them.
Also, where do the faction navy stand on this. Not seen any of them policeing their space.
