Can anyone share some good L5 tank fits with me? It'll mostly be for the Caldari Navy and Corporate Police Force missions. Most of my points are in Caldari ships. I'm sure some will say the Golem, but I would prefer if it was things that didn't require many SP's to do.

Edited by: Hwong Jian on 23/08/2011 22:33:11 A few things to start: if anyone posts active tank/speed tank fittings, you'd do well to ignore them. A majority of level 5 missions have web and neut towers that have more hps than about 10-20 battleships. Expect to move very slowly and never have any cap. At the same time, if you have someone that can cap transfer to you, active hardeners can work.
That being said, I can give you the ishtar fitting that I use to solo level 5s. Important note: this fitting only works for missions where your enemies are Guristas or Gallente Navy. It will not work for other missions, since the damage you take isn't mostly kin with some therm.
Ishtar: [Low Slots] 5x beta reactor shield power relays [Mid Slots] DG kin and therm hardeners, 2x LSE IIs, shield recharger II [High Slots] 3x 220mm AC IIs, 1 drone link augmentor [Rigs] sentry drone augmentor, 2x core defense field purger [Drones] 5x Garde IIs, 5x Warden IIs, 5x Hammerhead IIs, 5x Hobgoblin IIs
That setup should give you about a 1500-2000 dps passive tank against Gurista damage. The variance is based on your kin/therm shield skills. Mine are both at level 3.
Another thing that you can do to mitigate incoming damage is to drop a can (or your sentry drones) and orbit it at 500. Even though it is exceedingly difficult to speed tank level 5s, you can still reduce the incoming damage by not sitting still.
Your other options would be to consider ships with relatively high omni-resists, such as the devoter, fit them for a passive tank, and bring along a logi to keep them alive and then a couple friends in pure dps ships.
Edit: I completely missed the point where you said most of your points were in Caldari ships. If you have a decent level in Caldari Battleship, you can start with a Caldari Navy Scorpion, since it gets the shield resist per level bonus, and build up a decent tank from there.
Like an idiot, I saw the asking for advice and posted what I use.

No problem I appreciate the advice. I've heard a lot about the Ishtar and it's nice to see the build that can tank so well. I'll have to look into the SNI. I can certainly fly one, but to passive tank in it I will need to put some more points into passive tanking. I currently active tank L4's with it.
Got any advice for fitting it passive tank?

I use a nighthawk. Are you trying to solo them or use a repping alt?

Just looking for a tank since I will have buddies doing the dps.

Then a NH would work well. A person in a Logi makes it easy but you can even have the DPS ships throw a shield rep or two on and the NH will tank just fine.
As for a totally unassisted tank for lvl 5's, Rattlesnake?
The NH fit I use is something like this:
Highs: heavy missiles, drone link aug
Meds: Two LSE's, 3 Mission specific passive hardeners
Lows: BCS and Shield power relays
Rigs: Purgers

If you are going to use the NH why not just use the Drake at that point? It should be cheaper and way easier to get into.

Nighthawk tanks more and does more paper and applied DPS?
But yeah if you have proper reps I guess a drake would tank it just as well and it's of course easier to get into.

If you have a Scimitar or osprey/basi repping you (or anything really), then a fully tank drake would be fine i imagine.
Low (relatively anyway) sig, nice resist, lots of mids, and very cheap. Don't forget that you may get a ganker warping in to try taking you out, a Drake would be a far easier loss than a NH or anything else.

Edited by: Jyth Maeson on 24/08/2011 18:09:28 I am currently trying a fit similar to the below on a Drake and testing it out on IV's for the time being. So far it appears to be working out pretty well, but only time will tell.
Low: 4x Beta Reactor Control Shield: Shield Power Relay I
Mid: 2x Large Shield Extender II 2x Heat Dissipation Amplifier II 2x Kinetic Deflection Amplifier II
High: 7x Heavy Missile Launcher II 1x Drone Link Augmentor I

Depending on skills, that will have plenty of tank. With tech 2 spr's and without looking at eft, that will prolly tank 800-1000 vs guristas??

How do you calculate that out, or how do you get eft to show you?

In EFT where it shows the Defense, right click on it and you can "Edit Custom Defense Profiles". From there, use the mission guides to see what the percentage of incoming damage is.
Basically, 7 kinetic and 3 thermal, or 6/4 to find out what your tank is.
And, on some ships, the beta reactor is better to use than the T2, because it requires less cpu, gives almost the same bonus, and costs less.
PS: On a personal note, I really would not recommend using T2 rigs on a drake. You can buy and fit 3-5 drakes for the price of one T2 rig.

according to eveHQ 84 percent kinetic and 16 percent thermal for guristas.
I was close on my guesstimate. I get 1106 dps vs guristas with that fit and my skills using SPR II's and tech 1 rigs. If you do three kinetics and one thermal I get 1191. Little bit better.

I didn't realize that it was basically a 8/2 damage ratio. 1100-1200 is enough, but earlier people were saying you need 1500-2000 to be able to successfully tank V's...?

Turns out you can reach an 1800 tank with maxed shield skills, and CN shield amps. You damage will only be around 400 with all V's including drones but with that much tank you can get rid of some tank for dps if needed.
Thanks for all the help everyone!
