Amarr the math after freight works

Edited by: Aesiron on 24/08/2011 14:48:29 Hi. As an Amarr soon I am aiming to use Battleships. I have noticed the extremley high price differences between each one, and I was wondering which one to get.
I quite like the idea of being in an Apocalypse finishing off missions without the enemy even getting in range.
I also like the idea of being in an Abaddon, a very good tank.
I have considered the Armageddon but I don't know so much about it.
So my question is, which battleship should I save up to get? Could I buy an Armageddon at first and then build up to an Abaddon because of the prices or what?

Baddon - epic combo of tank and damage. Deals more damage than geddon (can easily fit 4 HS when geddon cant get more than 3) but man, it does drink cap like moonshine. My personnel preference is geddon but thats personal. All is imho. ---- Drones eat everything. Trust me. |

I'd recommend the Apoc for starting out, it has forgiving CPU/Powergrid and can be overtanked (which I'd recommend when learning triggers etc., assuming this is for missions).
Armageddon is fun but less tank and very tight on CPU/Powergrid (so high fitting skills required for a proper loadout)
Abaddon is a beast but drains capacitor very very fast, so you can't afford mistakes, in addition to requiring very good capacitor and armor skills.

Alright, I will probably go for an Apocalypse at first for mission running, but once I have the money I may go for an Abaddon.

Apoc actually does not have forgiving CPU. Some fully T2 mission setups aren't even possible, and others won't be possible without max fitting skills and a CPU reduction implant in slot 10. That said, of the three Amarr battleships it's the one I always preferred until I switched over to the Maelstrom. Abaddon was underwhelming and Geddon couldn't tank enough.

Why did you find the abaddon underwhelming? Both Ggddon and the Abadd works best with BS V. Gank is your tank. BS to V is a must to really take advantage of the resist bonus of the tier 2 BS.

I found the Armageddon sufficient for doing level 4s. If ISK is a concern, I'd recommend it.
I used only the smallest of the "large" lasers on it though. My skills were (and still are) underwhelming. Anyway, my fit was: Highs: 7x Dual Modulated Heavy Energy Beam I or 7x Dual Heavy Modulated Pulse Energy Beam I
1x drone link augmenter or 1x heavy energy Nosferatu (meta 3 or 4, I forget).
Mids: 3x cap rechargers (meta 4, then later I changed to T2 when I could) or 2x cap rechargers, 1 web/target painter/burner
Lows: 1x DC (high meta/tech II if you can) 4x mission specific hardeners 1x large armor repper 2 heat sinks/ 1 heat sink 1 tracking enhancer (meta/tech II as skills allow)
5x light drones 5x medium drones 2 heavy drones (all mission damage type specific)
3 capacitor control circuits
Some missions, 1 repper with 4 resist modules+ DC wasn't sufficient, and I dropped the heat sink/tracking enhancers, and added a second repper + a cap power relay. I had cap stability problems, as I didn't have energy operation/management/controlled bursts to lvl 5, and Amarr BS was only lvl 3 - Multifreqency + constantly running the repper would drain the cap after a while.
Mission completion time wasn't stellar. I was planning on going to an Abaddon, but the cap issues scared me away, and I was looking at a Armageddon Navy Issue. But if I had to do it over, I'd probably have saved up a bit more, and got the apocalypse, and stuck with Pulses.
Then I trained Caldari BS to lvl 3, and got a Nightmare from a friend - I haven't looked back.
My Armageddon is now a makeshift mining barge - as it would still take ~4 days to train for a Retriever. With 7 XeCl mining lasers + 5 mining drones (and 100 m3 of drone space for combat drones)+ 8 lows for cargohold expanders, it seems comparable to a Retriever.

I was in the game for over a year before I started training for battleships and I actually trained larger energy weapons to 5 before I started flying them. Get your large tech II guns ASAP. The best tank in mission running is your ability to kill rats quickly (no need to tank them if they are dead). As soon as you can afford it, and tech II fit it, buy an Apocalypse Navy Issue. The range bonus is a plus -being able to alpha strike frigates at 80 KM (with really good skills) and rarely, if ever, have to deploy your drones is a huge plus.
Never shoot at someone who steals your mission loot -they don't want the junk that dropped from the wreck. They want you to aggro them so they can get an easy kill. The worst thing you can do is ignore them
