I ve been trying to figure which skills and implants have an effect on this particular aspect of boosting. Well, maybe yeild too then but as a secondary concern.
As far as I know I have all relevant skills to max, the foreman mindlink implant too but all I manage is 23.7 km on the strip miners.
Now, people keep telling me it s supposed to be 25 km but wth. I cant find anything else than the super-duper expensive ORE implants that could do anything more for the range.
I d appreciate a precise and clear laydown of the skills and implants involved - even the ORE Harvester implants if they dont confuse it too much.
The claim it was supposed to be 25km assumed no expensive faction implants.
Thanks

23.7 sounds right.
Max Skills Orca pilot should have: Capital Industrial (Industrial Command?) Ships 5 Leadership 5 (Wing Commander/Fleet Commander optional) Mining Foreman 5 Mining Director 5 Warfare Link Specialist 5 Mining Foreman Mindlink =========================

I believe it is 25k+ with a max Rorqual pilot, not a maxed Orca. I use a maxed Orca right now and get similar results as yours (sub 25k).

yeah, a Rorq (max skill) is something like 40-50% better than a max orca ... scary large volumes of ore/ice... =========================

It's actually about 12% better :)
Cycle times: Orca- ~133 sec Rorqual- ~119 sec
~10.5% reduction in cycle time
1/.895 = ~12% increase in ore per given time period

You can find the same calculations I did for the Rorqual here.
For the Orca:
Total Link Bonus = Link Bonus * Mining Director * (1 + Warfare Link Specialist * 0.10) * (1 + Industrial Command Ships * 0.03) * (1 + Mining Foreman Mindlink Mining Link Bonus)
1 / (1 - cycle time reduction) = ore bonus from gang link
Total yield bonus = ore bonus from gang link * Mining Foreman Mindlink yield bonus
Example: Maximum Skills
Mining Foreman Link - Laser Optimization (2%) Mining Foreman Link - Mining Laser Field Enhancement (4.5%)
Cycle time reduction = 0.02 * 5 * (1 + 5 * 0.10) * (1 + 5 * 0.03) * (1 + 0.50) = 0.25875
1 / (1 -0.25875) = 1.34907 ore bonus from gang link
Total yield bonus = 1.34907 * 1.15 = 1.5514305 (or in other words 55.14% more ore)
Range Link Bonus = 0.045 * 5 * (1 + 5 * 0.10) * (1 + 5 * 0.03) * (1 + 0.50) = 0.5821875
Maximum Laser Range = 15 km * (1 + 0.5821875) = 23.732 km

and ore compression ^_^
but yeah, I was looking at "orca bonus" and "rorq bonus" (at work... ) and mixed up the "it's this much better" bit =========================

The rorq is definitely the way to go if you have a dedicated hauler and a safe POS to run the indy cycle with 100% uptime.
I personally only use an Orca with my fleet- it boosts and hauls :) I've got it down to about a 95% uptime with the mindlink boost (99% uptime with the leadership yield bonus)- my guys pump out about 700k m3 ore per hour with 5 hulks (without drones!).
If I added a dedicated rorq pilot to the fleet, it'd be around 790k m3 per hour... not too shabby of a bonus! Only downfall is that a maxed out rorq pilot is expensive :)

You can get 27km with the boosts and using very expensive (600million) ore strip miners... but why? You mine faster with t2 crystals and the boost at 23km.. the extra range on the miners really buys you nothing but risk.

That might very well be so - however, the convenicne of added range for me is worth a lot since I mine a lot, ie avoid the constant tangle and hassle of moving around, getting out of range from the orca etc.
Also, the ORE implants supposedly could give you 36 kilometers which woudl be insane, letting yo ucover all but the largest drift belts withotu much effort at all

what implant are you referring to? I've never seen an ore implant on the market and it doesn't appear in the industry implant list:

I think perhaps the ORE Strip Miner was meant as it has a longer base rank of 17 km.
These are the only Industry implants (clickable) that I know of.

I've been mining in high-security systems lately. There I use T2 lasers and a survey scanner so as to not waste full cycles. Without the ability to scan more than 22.5km with a Survey Scanner II, I have no need to boost my laser range farther than the Orca is providing. I'm currently operating on 4 accounts, 2 hulks, 1 retriever, and an Orca. I suppose if I was operating 6+ accounts I may not care as much about wasting a cycle.
I know this may be off topic, but are there any ways to boost the survey scanner range farther than 22.5km?

Put it on the Orca and it will have 112.5 km range.

You can also add a tags column to your overview (I have it as the first column) so the Orca pilot can tag asteroids. Example: 0 = less than 10k, 1 = less than 20k, 2 = less than 30k, etc. Don't use the letters B, I, O, as they look like numbers.
That is a great tip, thank you Tau.
