I see a lot of confusion about the "base armor damage" and "base shield damage" attributes. These 2 attributes are a calculation on the amount of damage a projectile, hybrid charge, missile or shot from a specific frequency crystal should do to a t1 ship with it's base resistances. It's very unlikely that you're going to be spending a lot of time shooting completely untanked ships, so these attributes are basically meaningless.
Especially in incursion channels/fleets, I keep seeing people, even experienced pilots, telling others that they should only use emp as the sansha are shield tanked and that emp rounds will simply do more damage than fusion or phased plasma rounds.
I'm tired of explaining this all the time, can we (read I) please have those attributes removed? Forgive me, i was young and stupid I still am. |

... why are you not using hail or barrage?
If you can't use them, :getout: until you can, ffs.

I dont see how hail or barrage relates to a set of attributes that don't actually do anything. But hail nerfs the tracking and the range, barrage is very valid but expensive and a little less damage, so I'd only use it if I really needed the range. Forgive me, i was young and stupid I still am. |

I say remove the "base armor damage" and "base shield damage" attributes just to mess up peoples databases and 3rd party programs.

You run incursions and worry about the cost of ammunition? What?

Edited by: Nezumiiro Noneko on 24/08/2011 22:14:59 if they took the number away...then people would complain that they have no way of knowing what the damage is is in game.
Proof....stay tuned to f&I or search older posts, missiles don't show max range and whiners can't be put out to run calc on their computer or use eft to get a range. that number too is a meaningless stat (its the number - 10-15% to get actual range factoring in targets speed and flight path) , yet still many want it.
If your char (or alts if you got em) has time, learn to make and invent barrage. Nice isk saver. 1 bpc makes 50K barrage all 10 runs burned, split the order 50/50, 25K rounds for you to run incursions, 25K rounds to get a decent chunk of your materials money back. This how my journey to the darkside of indy began....he fed the combat pilot cheaper t2 ammo.

what is it with pulling random threads off topic? Again, me not using barrage isn't important at all. Most of the times my gun boats will hit fine with fusion anyway. No reason to get less damage by changing to a more expensive ammunition with an added bonus you dont really need.
But to return to my original point, the only numbers you should focus on if you wanted to know what damage you "should deal" should be the damage types you're using and resistances of the ship you're shooting at, but since the last one varies a lot there'd be no point on putting it as a fixed number on your ammo. Forgive me, i was young and stupid I still am. |

number is a guide. Its a best case number to give you an idea of what it does. Better than shooting in the dark as it where with no number.
Especially for noobs who haven't shot 1000's of rounds. Hell useful to people like me, caldari to minny x-train on the combat char so I go from missiles/torps to rails to projectiles. Stuck chucking missiles and rails for weeks on end, I'll admit to forgetting the nitty gritty details of every projectile ammo profile when I hop back in the duct tape ships. In rokh mode long enough...hell I get confused as I spew rounds and not see my cap run dry lol.
Also worth noting....some numbers will actually be close to the real thing. Go shoot a falcon not running em rigs or DCUII (assuming armour tanked jam falcon spec here). The em damage portion stat will in fact be 100% unblocked damage for shields (the falcon has a lovely 0.00000000 em resist).
don't like the number, know your ammo...don't read and move on basically.

Because I can't afford a better ammo then T1 and I don't know about the recent 2T boost to close range ammo that makes hail do a few hundred dps more then navy rounds.
Ahh I see how it is now...
