I have an alt I was thinking about training up for L4's but wanted to also train an incursion-friendly path. I do not want missiles, in case I abuse him for PvP later. I áhave equally terrible tanks, and do not know which tank is incursion-ideal.
I have him grinding L3's in a cane right now, and really like matar for win, speed, and dmg type flexibility, and would generally prefer sticking with that. That said, I can be persuaded.
My current plan is to get him straight into a meta arty Maelstrom, then into a T2 auto Machariel. Both shield fits I think.
I COULD bail early from BS hulls/guns, and go for Loki, scimitar, huginn (have covops already), or even Sleipnir. Not sure any of those are more in demand than a gank BS tho.
Please get my head on straight before I waste SP, frustrate FC's, or get excluded based on the 'wrong' ship & fit.

Minmatar is just great.
Machariel, Scimitar, Loki, Sleipnir.
Dual webbed sleipnir, 3-4 webbed Loki with immobility drivers Dual-tracking link scimitar
All good.

of course going amarr is nice as well.
The nightmare is a very good ship for incursions (if u feel like sticking to high-sec)
I also should point out the Vindicator. The difference just one vindi makes to an incursion fleet is noticeable and not easily matched.

question: how would you assess the relative value of a loki and a tengu to an incursion fleet (as in "loki 5/10, tengu 6/10" or so)?

A guardian is pretty much a fleet guarantee. If you compare invested skill time it wins by a mile. No real use in missions, tho. But given that CCP wants to have more PvE group content proper it might be a good investment anyways.
If you prefer shooty shooty, a paladin or a nightmare with T2 guns will get you into proper fleets quickly. -- IF YOU PLAY WITH SONY YOU PLAY WITH ******! |

Loki > Tengu because in a mostly battleship gang, the loss of DPS from a loki is made up by its awesome bonused webs, which you can usually fit at least 2.

Actually, most of the extra range bonus the Loki receives from webs generally is unused. The reason for this is because your top end DPS fleets that take the time to min/max the dps will prefer their targets in the 10-20km range.
just because the loki "can" web the rats @ 40km, doesn't mean it should. _____________________________________________

Edited by: Kara Books on 01/09/2011 13:17:41 I took that path and theres only one thing you need to know.
Skill up for the typhoon then work your way into the Maelstrom.
P.S. Dont worry about the loki or Tengu for now, just get those core skills up and mess around with that phoon.
another side note, for mission running the Tengu is the king, because the loki is fast, but the tengu kills scram frigs much faster.

This is VERY important and another reason I didn't bother with fed navy webs on my loki but rather Khanid webs. They easily reach 26 + km and over 30 with fleet boost.
Don't listen to Kara, if you do have the isk get something shiny and you shall be rewarded with proper fleets and good earnings.

Go with Armor Incursion fleets: generally not as rookie and better use of what counts in Incursions (TCs and Webs).
Armor Loki, Machariel, and even the TP/Web Rapier (mostly for utility) is well accepted into fleets. As said earlier, most heavy DPS do their thing in the 10-20km range (that which Sansha willing drive into at MWD speeds). Even if you dish out major 'EFT DPS', it's all for null if you can't actually hit the target because it's zooming about. Armor medium slots are dedicated to TCs and webs, ensuring that that 'Tama Cerebellum' is taking maximum damage.
Also, spec'ing into Amarr is well worth it. - Navygeddon or Bhaalgorn - Absolution - Legion
The major plus: INMulti/Conflag and Scorch. Turrets instantly hit your target. Lasers can instantly change range/dps by switching crystals, ensuring consistent DPS on the target. Crystals minimizes cargo dependency because you don't need to carry 5000 ammo that runs out.

looks like the best choices are:
1. go lazer boats, either shield or armor (probably the best damage) 2. continue minmatar BS training for the Mach (a very close second in dps) 3. go minmatar cruiser & gun training for slepnir + occasional pvp (flexibility)
given those choices I would probably recommend option 3 because the slepnir is no slouch in dps, and cruiser 5 opens up some nice tactical options for pew. After that would finish out the mach for the big DPS.
