You customized your avatar when you made it. You didn't pay for it. You didn't complain. Why did you not refer to it as space barbie when you played dress up then? Why is it space barbie when the avatar customization came from the NEX sore? Just wondering why the double standard. . Adapt and overcome or become a monkey on an evolution poster.

These are the same people who cannot find France on a map, mind you. The same people that think military drab uniforms are not historically accurate. The same people that listen to talk radio hosts with baited breath and believe every word they have rammed down their throats and mindlessly repeat it everywhere they go. The same people that balk when one president takes a week off but clapped when the former drove around on a tractor on his ranch for half a year simply because the latter wastheir man and the former was not.
It's like that Family Guy episode where Louis runs for mayor, she tries to use reason and logic, and genuine care for championing people's interests only to find that no one listened to her until she used catch phrases, meaningless memes, and nothing else.
Netflix it on the web and stream the episode, Louis Griffin runs for Mayor, it is really quite accurate political satire IMO.
Satire, the truest form of political dialog there is IMO.

I'm pretty sure I did pay for it.
That aside, I agree with the crux of your point; people don't have to use the Incarna features if they don't want to, and the rest of the game is still there to play, so whats the problem? Its not really worth trying to argue with the anti-space-barbie point of view though... its a bit like shouting at cattle. ---- I like the base. |

Fixed, good point, we did pay for the avatar customization. Or, for those who like to put too fine a point on it, "the right to access the server to play space barbie."

Hmmm. Well I'm here to build stuff and blow stuff up. I'm not here to play dress up with my toon. In addition i will never pay real money to customize my toon when it should be included in the subscription fee. CCP should introduce a new industry skill set so the clothes can be manufactured and sold on the market like anything else in the game. If I want to play dress up I'll load up the sims or something. Hell you can almost buy the full retail copy of the sims 3 for one set of clothes in EvEonline. Anyone else see something wrong with that?????

You can't has my stuff cause a lot is locked up in this toon. Its locked up cause I won't play space barbie. If you don't play space Barbie, CCP locks your stuff until you do. I put on make up and eyeliner once, I'm liberal, I'll try anything once. I dolled up and let em wiggle it around. Did my best with it but its not for me. CCP stole my stuff cause I won't go fruity again.

When I just created account I had no choice but to create character and dress it up. Even back then it seemed strange that game about space has so detailed character customization that you must do before entering the actual game. But I liked the character I created, get acquainted with it, got used to it and forgot about that character creator for good. Incarna reminded me that apart from face it have some kind of a body attached to it. Whatever.
I came into spaceships game. Not spaceshops game. If I would like to play dress up and walk the stage game I would chose Sims not EVE Online. It's not what we here for. And it never will be what people come here for.

We came here to play a game, that game is developed by CCP and they have a vision of a science fiction masterpiece that encompasses all aspects of the genre not solely spaceships themselves (hence incursions, hence wormholes, hence planetary interaction, hence DUST514, do I really need to continue for you?) and this includes having corporeal bodies that we can waltz around in a station with and show off our advanced civilization with ocular implants, fancy science fiction rapport and yes, superficiality. No one but you has evidently been under the illusion that CCP was not developing Incarna for the past five years in starts and stops and has only just now finally come up with something that is at least finished enough (in their opinion) to deploy as an expansion.
This expansion has been part of CCPs vision for five years now since the whispers about avatars and walking in stations began. Where have you been?
Lemme ask ya something, you paid $$$ to go see that movie in the theater, why did the ending not happen the way you wanted it to?
Answer: If you do not like CCP's vision of a science fiction masterpiece, you are more than welcome to go somewhere else.

Let me answer you on that. The moment i see something that will break a game for me i will leave without your invitations to. And I as well as a lot of other people made it crystal clear where that point is.
Edit: If all is like you said why all the protests? Why rage quitting? Why we at all have this conversation if everything is so perfect as you say it is. I suggest you go read more forum posts before calling EVE Online a masterpiece. It's a game i like to play (so far) but i would not even overexaduratingly call it a masterpiece just yet.

Actually I clicked random until it gave me something I didn't find offensive to look at and I moved on and I did this as quickly as possible because quite honestly like everybody I've talked to I didn't give a **** and just wanted to play spaceships. I do know one person who spent time on their barbie because he was the head of an alliance and felt it affected his appeal.
It would have been more interesting if it was like Rainbow 6 and let me use a webcam to put my own face on my character. Kinda insulting that a half ass game series like Rainbow 6 has more features in its character creation than something CCP takes so much pride in. Also that would have done a lot for immersion too bad you missed out on that CCP..........

spending a lot of money and resources to put out a buggy horribly lit box for me to walk slowly around in and calling it an expansion and charging 80 dollars for a monocle....bad

It's about perspective.
When the new character creator came out, two things were understood about it.
1) It was a work in progress. 2) It was a stepping stone for Incarna.
When it first came out, people were complaining about the lack of variety in clothing. CCP assured people it would address these concerns, which is actually hilarious in hindsight.
Next, consider that, when it came out, we didn't know anything about Incarna. We'd been fed stories over the years about spacepubs and gambling and all that crap. I was at least expecting a place to sit down and play Poker with members of the militia.
Then, Incarna hit.
Now, the thing about Incarna, is that it does absolutely ****ing nothing. Let me reiterate that in case you missed it the first time:
INCARNA DOES ABSOLUTELY ****ING NOTHING.
It doesn't take a halfwit to realize that the only reason Incarna exists is to justify the NEX. Because, really, they can't sell you 1000 dollar jeans when your character portrait doesn't even show jeans, now can they? When the new Character Creator came out, we had few expectations. It was a new character creator, and it served its purpose rather well. Incarna, on the other hand, had massive expectations from years of hype. At the very least, we expected it to be more than a front for a cash shop.
To say our expectations were a little off is a massive understatement.
So that's why people call it space barbie. Not because your character is a doll, but because your CQ is a dollhouse. And even that's more flattering than it deserves, because I'm pretty sure that a dollhouse lets you rearrange your furniture.

Its amazingly hard to understand TBH.
1. Some people are apparently asshurt over pre NEX avatars. 2. Incarna was buggy when it came out for me but the patch fixed the bugs. I have 2 gigs of ram and a ****ing sparkle vid card thats < 50USD and it runs great on a single client for me. I can understand not being able to run multiple clients, but running multiple clients is *supposed* to use more resources. 3. You don't have to spend a penny of real world money to get NEX items, you don't have to buy them at all. . Adapt and overcome or become a monkey on an evolution poster.

Hopefully there will be far less QQers in the next space MMO than this one, it has gone from a wonderful forum community just a few short years ago to nothing but endless bawling and petty arguments over strands of hair misplaced on people's faces and whether or not our clothes are magical and can be teleported from one station to the next.
Frankly, I'm sick of it, I only come here because the few posters I enjoy rapping with are still here, even tho some of them despise one another, together at least we can have rational non-world-is-ending conversations about a GAME.

Let me stop the stupid right here.
The protests were about the possibility of pay to win items in the nex store, and huge game play changes because of the nex store. IT WAS NOT ABOUT Playing dress up or the 73 buck monocle. It was the idea that CCP would even consider that idea.
For the most part, people don't gives 2 ****s about what goes on in the nex store unless game altering items go into it. Then and only then do we have a problem. Now would everyone get their panties out of their ass already and get back to blowing up each other.

They aren't.
The vision of ccp coincides with their incarna trailer and the butterfly effect. They want to have a full sci-fi simulator universe. Starting from your captains quarters, then to include shops, bars, businesses for personal interaction that isnt a chat window. Then when you leave you affect the universe looting and pillaging collecting and selling goods, interacting with not only your fellow pilots in space, but with your commandos and people on the ground.
Why is it so hard to understand that ccp has a dream and a goal that NO other mmo company would ever try? Especially on a single sharded universe.
I mean wouldnt you like to sit in a bar, watch some exotic dancers giving you a great show, what you call for orbital strikes on people you hate with the touch of a button, knowing that while you did this that some guy with his ps3, just got nuked by some guy playing with exotic dancers in Incarna? Could you imagine the rage?
I dont know about you guys, but I want to get a lap dance while i call for orbital strikes against console players, just for the tears.
