I have never been backwards about coming forwards on my opinion of "The Mittani". Personally I always believed the man had mental health issues... (I work in the industry).
How absolutely judgemental and completely contradictory to my actual qualifications and training!
It wasn't until I read Alex Gianturco's passionate and obviously devestated post on The Mittani.com about Sean Smith, that I realised there was a man with a heart underneath all the pomp and circumstance.
I decided that further investigation was needed into the man behind "The Mittani". Every day I work with intellectual disability and mental health and these people are judged at first sight with little fact or knowledge behind the judgements. I know better, and it was time to put my money where my mouth was.
I have been playing EvE for a very long time now, been part of awesome fights, major changes and seen Major alliances come and go. Call it indignation, but my loathing of Goons and Mittani started when Band of Brothers was so disgustingly disbanded with meta gaming. I had no actual love for Band of Brothers, infact I was in Mercenary Coalition for several years... No love lost there obviously!
It was just my ethics and morale code kicking in that caused me to rage inside a little..
It was my job in the mental health industry that caused me to absolutely rage inside over Mittani's felony at fanfest. I believe now that Mittani had a serious lapse in judgement due to alcohol consumption and Alex Gianturco was asleep in his hotel room at the time.
Now let's cut to the chase... Why do I think "The Mittani" led by Alex Gianturco the man should be allowed to run for the CSM again and why he should most definitely be voted back in??
Because the man actually cares about this game and it's future. As much as he may fluff his chest out and revel in the attention, his base agenda is actually for the betterment of this game. I believe he is in it for the long haul.
He has the respect of the people he has met in Iceland regardless of his posturing and he believes in what he is doing. He is loyal and faithful to his cause.
Those are qualities to be admired, regardless of mistakes made and faux pas, Alex "The Mittani" Gianturco understands that EvE Online needs a future and he wants to help shape it.
The only cross he actually bear's in achieving this is the mindless posting of some of the "Goons" themselves.....
To you personally Alex, I hope you do stand for election in the next CSM and I hope and pray CCP allows it.

I can see how with you working with the mental ill people, how someone who is also mentally ill, outgaming you and most people would be offensive and highly untolerable. (Hopefully no one else at the hospital hears about him, or they might get uppity.)
I suppose its a good thing, you are able to raise above that though, and want him back to CSM. I will not be voting in the CSM election, so you need to go vote to make up for me. |

CSM is a labor of love (or perhaps insanity). You don't get paid for your time, your real life name gets tied to stuff you have done in Eve, and you get dragged through the mud for a year over things you have no control over. I don't know why people keep doing it, I certainly cannot see the benefit to taking on that mantel. |

Doubly so once you see the completely blase attitude CCP have towards releasing personal information for what amounts to punitive purposes:
Quote from the CSM Summit Minutes (pages 5 through 9 if anyone wants to look them up themselves)
Quote:CCP Xhagen : I decided upon this specifically because of accountability and social awareness -- if you do something stupid, your real life name is associated to the character, and you get a reputation in real life...

Personally I don't know the man, never met him, never spoken to him, all I have to go on are second hand accounts of things he supposedly did... and most of those are actually things carried out by people in his alliance rather than by him himself.
The thing to remember when talking about the Goons is how easy it is to love to hate them. They wear it like a badge of honour, but behind it all, they are actually some of the most honest people in Eve.
Sure they will scam you, sure they will greif you, sure they will cause economic hardship for thousands to further their own aims... but at least they are upfront and honest about it... Gotta respect that. Most people do exactly the same thing (albeit to a smaller scale) behind your backs.
The man himself, while his ingame character may not exactly be a paragon of virtue and justice, should not be used as a reason to prevent him from taking up a job he is so obviously well suited for.
Games are a form of escapism, they provide us with the means to be what ever we want to be without real life concequences, what you do ingame under the name of your toon is very very rarely a true reflection of the kind of person who you truely are.
If people want him to stand for CSM, I say let him. If people really don't want him in the position, then let them speak with their votes. |

Do you believe that he was drunk when he made the powerpoint presentation prior to the fanfest presentation? Quite naive.
CCP made a mistake by not banning Mittani's account permanently. It would only be an inconvenience to him, a loss of skillpoints since he could always resub under a new account, or just use one of his alt accounts (should he have one, quite likely) to play. But, after all, greed is good right.
If CCP perma-banned anyone who told someone else to commit suicide, or encouraged others (say, others in local) to make someone commit suicide, then high sec would become almost completely devoid of miners overnight. This is why I motion that John Lithgow should be incarcerated for the murders he perpetrated as the trinity killer in Dexter.

The difference being that John Lithgow's acts had no RL consequences, as he never really killed anyone, nor caused harm to anyone.
If I went and robbed a bank and said oh sorry I was just roleplaying a bank robber, I'm sure that wouldn't change my culpability. |

Listen, maybe you need to get out more. There are no "RL" conseuquences in EVE, any more than there are for losing a game of monopoly or tennis or something. MatrixSkye Mk2: "Remember: You consent to unconsensual PVP the moment you press the "Undock" button." |

There are real life consequences to asking people (In the case of the Mitanni, probably hundreds if not thousands of people due to him being well known in the Eve community) to harass a person that is potentially suicidal. If you don't understand this I'm not sure what to say to convey the message to you.
This isn't a RL consequence stemming from gameplay, it is stemming from public humiliation and asking people to harass an individual. |

When you're talking about consequences, you might want to consider that the player in question didn't even know about what mittens said until the rabble-rabble made a huge thing of it.

I can't say I've ever encouraged a group of people to harass a person with the intent of that person committing suicide, then proceed to blaming my words on intoxication. I can't say that I've ever said anything drunk or sober that bares even some semblance to what was said.
I can't say I know anyone that has ever said anything along the lines of: Hey let's get together and end someone's life, just because they were drunk. |

I'm sure both individuals and CCP has learnt a lot from the episode and the fall out. Maybe there will be a drinking embargo on the invited speakers?
I do doubt the sincerity of anyone who says they're going to commit suicide, as it's the quiet ones that are the most likely to carry out their act leaving only a letter. This isn't to say such comments shouldn't be acted upon as it is nevertheless a cry for help.
I trust the individual received and is receiving that help from professional people.

But if you can be a sociopath in game behind an avatar and act like a douche bag in front of an audience with beer in your blood stream - isn't it just a matter of degrees?
Of course a sociopath is a human being without emotional empathy so wouldn't get the alcoholic requirement to drop the mask(s), nor would they appreciate an ingame avatar as they're ALWAYS wearing a mask just to fit in to daily live.
