Gravitywell belt miner. A smartbomb for miners.
It emites energy like a smartbomb and collects whatever ore is in the area. Using skills for both smartbombs and mining it would be a T3 stripminer.
Basic Spec mining 400 m3 Range 20-50k with the right skills for 0.0 150sec cycle time
The Ship (Halo) Circular in nature holds 5 strips and has a hold of about 30k m3 and allows those with higher drone skills to use more drones.
A cloaked mining drone so it can't get shot by rats would be nice to.

that sounds like a good idea. Missioners got their new ships and skills I think miners should et some upgrades too.

No. Miners don't need it.
The only 2 ideas I'd be actually for (considering mining) are:
'strip' mining: Would not be about the minerals, but about destroying astroids quickly so no-one else can mine them. Your smartbomb idea could fit in that.
'ninja' mining: Have a low-yield barge that can actually be used behind enemy lines, with a covops cloak or something. ---

Yeah... Lets get rid of all roids so, there wonĘt be any more ships or weapons or anythingą
Then we can all leave space and live on little planets and kill each other the old fashioned wayą with rocks and sticks. (isn't that like... that boring game.)

will go to rocks and sticks, provided it involves a monolith.
Now, I wouldn't be opposed to a new ship that doesn't actually mine, but rather uses the "T3" Strip Miners to do just that.
It can QUICKLY kill a belt (say 1-2 hours or so for a "big" one)... but then you need to use a rorqual or POS Module (0.4 and below) to process the ore out of the crap rock.
Current T1/2 "Strips" Veld -> Veld Ore (0.1 M3 * strip miner yield/3 min).
T3 Strip: Veld -> Rock containing veld (0.01 M3 * yield/3 min (i.e. you get 10x as much)) -> Rorq/POS -> Veld Ore. if you got 3330 with a T2 strip, you get 33300 "veld containing rock", however the rorq/POS processing yields roughly 4162 units (4162.5, rounded down) of usable ore, which is 25% bonus... could be higher/lower to balance properly.
You can refine "rock containing veld" directly, but the station refineries can't refine it at 100% efficiency. without processing. Say 25% loss over using the current T1/2 miners ...
T1/2 strip miners 3330 units of "Veld Ore" -> 10k trit
T3 strip, no processing 33k units of "Veld Containing Asteroid Bits" -> 7500 trit
T3 strip, rorq/pos pre-processing 33k units of "veld containing asteroid bits" -> 4162 "Veld Ore" -> 12,498 Trit

It's amazing how many people don't understand this. The problem is, they think for some reason that they will be the only person to get this new item, which will give them an edge over everyone else. EVE DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY.
The only mining buff that is needed is to remove all meta 0-2 and metal scraps from missions, and not replace them with anything.

dammit, the thing ate other bits of my post . really have to remember to use 'preview' more often.
was supposed to have the caveats of reprocessing other stuff to yield less, and other bits that could be done to decrease the overall non-mining mineral supply...

The problem is not the ships, it's the mineral price, it's the mineral supply > demand.
If the mining barges need something is certainly not a new one, it's better fitting possibilities, slots, cargo, tank, defence (1 more drone for each 2 lvl?) and align/warp.

Edited by: Kharvor on 30/08/2011 02:32:59 I support this ^ +1. A "T3 mining barge" or "T3 mining laser" thread pops up every week. This is why people should say "NO" for now:
1. CCP thinks hisec miners make too much ISK too easily as it is. That's why they're thinking about nerfing roids and ice.
2. Mineral prices now also suck because rogue drones and mission stuff yield way too many high end materials. Miners don't need to be able to mine even more, that would throw the supply and demand even further out of balance. That's not even considering the bots.
Repeat after me: limited supply stimulates increased demand and an unsatisfied demand stimulates higher seller prices. TLDR? The less of something there is, the more you can milk out of people for it.
I support industrial ship buffs in armor, shields, defensive bonus, and drone capacity. Everything else is bad for market prices. |

The devs have already said the hulk will be the maximum miner. No better strip mining.
The best idea to introduce next would be a T3 mining ship. Change out mining modules for Ore, Ice or Gas.
There was even an idea for the ship to be able to moon mine in empire. Now wouldn't that spice things up?

There is quite a bit of minerals comming in from drone sites (although I think missions was fixed already in that area?), so a boost to mining yield would increase their share of the market. Prices would drop, but it would still give better profits for the miners using the new stuff, as long as a similar boost is not simultanously applied to drone drops.
