I decided to try my hand at some exploration and check out life in the wormholes. I trained up the skills people have recommended, jumped into my covert ops ship, found a hole, and jumped through. I scanned down a ladar site and warped in at 70km. I don't know why, but my cloaking device turned off when I got there, so I waited 10 seconds and turned it back on. There were a half-dozen missile batteries - the closest was 78km away. So far, no big deal. Now, my plan was only to look around, but I started thinking about taking a couple of pot-shots, so I de-cloaked. Suddenly, I'm in my capsule. No other ships appeared on my overview and none of the batteries had locked onto me. The only new thing on the overview was the wreck of my ship. I didn't see or hear any explosions or anything to show that somebody popped me. I checked my combat log to see who killed me and it only said "unknown". I looked through some of the forums and websites to see if there is something that does this in WH space - didn't find anything. So, can anyone tell me what the ***k is going on? I don't want to go back to see if I can salvage my ship if I'm just going to lose another one and I'd like to go back to WH space armed with a little less stupidity.

The problem is that those missile batteries are not missile batteries. They're sentries. They probably instantly popped your covert ops ship. -------------------------------------------------- I am the Love Angel, Wedding Peach, and I am very displeased by your lack of love! |

Sorry, I did mean to say sentries, but I think you're right. I took a big ship back to get my stuff and took quite a bit of punishment while I salvaged my stuff. So, let that be a lesson, kids! WH space is as dangerous as they say it is! Oh, and thanks for the reply.

Just fyi... Those sentry turrets, even in c1, have a long range. I found that out the hard way yesterday, even though I've been living in w-space for a long time. Saw a frigate wreck on dscan, checked the lone combat site in my cloaked stealth bomber, and saw a Navy Slicer wreck about 175k from the guns. "Hmm. Quick loot. Those Sleepers are far away (150k to the closest sleeper frigs) so I'll be long gone by the time they can fly to me. And I don't think the Sirius turrets shoot that far." Decloaked next to the wreck and a few seconds later I'm in my pod, instapopped by the Sirius guns.
Then, to pile more stupid on top of my first stupid, I went to my POS and grabbed my basic pve Drake to come back and loot the 2 wrecks that were now there. Got popped and podded by 4 visitors in Tengu, Drake, Falcon and Broadsword. I suspect the tengu was cloaked and camping that slicer wreck and got a good laugh seeing my SB pop and then have me come back for more "fun".
Moral of the story... Yes, this is supposed to happen in w-space.

is there a database where one can check the sleeper ship data (like sig size, top speed etc)?

You slid your ship into an unfamiliar hole for the first time and you didn't use protection? *shakes head*
