WoW has a ridiculous subscriber base that like it, and an extensive free trial. Nothing says you have to play it regularly or consider it a 'good' game... but if somehow you don't have WoW on your list of MMO's you've tried then you're just way to afraid to be uncool on the internet and your background (the topic of the thread) is irrelevant.

Eve (obviously) City of Heroes - A good, fun game Champions Online - Not as good as CoH Pirates of the Burning Sea - Fun, but repetitive WAR - I found it slightly irritating Age of Conan - Looks lovely, but somewhat lacking in immersion WoW - Did the trial, felt no need to actually buy it DDO - Seemed to suffer from a lack of content Earthrise - Buggy and laggy, but it's a game with enormous potential. Reminds me of Eve in 2003.

LoTRO Neocron (not 2, the first one) Perfect World Perpetuum (beta) Planetside (TR forever) Regnum Online Rubies of Eventide Runescape Runes of Magic Star Wars Galaxies (pre-NGE) Tabula Rasa Vendetta Online Warhammer Age of Reckoning World of Warcraft Wurm Online
This list consists of games, over the last 10 years, that I have "played" which to me means I spent at least 1 month of casual play (5-10 hours per week). This list no way includes all the freebies I downloaded, played for 10 minutes, and then uninstalled because it sickened me.

I played Runescape when I was 11 or so. Played Eve a while after I had quit that game and tried Age of Conan for about a month. That's it for me so far :D oh and Perpetuum
Yeah, but it's one of those argumentum ad populum. Or vise versa.... there's a no in there somewhere for the reverse. Essentially hipster logic. "If lots of people like it it must suck."
But you've been living under a rock as a pc gamer if you've never at least even tried it. The game just isn't for me, but overall it's not a bad game... I will say i'm guessing we'll never see a warcraft 4 now because the story line is so ****ed up because of WOW though... That or they'll have to branch it off to decades in the future from wc3.

re: WoW every few months I'll burn out on EvE. then a month or so of WoW is good to 'wind down' as it were. play a bit more casual, take it piano. sort of like a vacation in a fairyland, before I can get back to the harsh reality. ;-)

Well I guess I'm just not a PC gamer then :D I don't know anyone who plays WoW, in fact, I hate pretty much any MMO except for Eve.
Actually, I didn't even know about WoW until after I started playing Eve when everyone was like "go back to WoW", etc, and to me it looks so stupid as to be a waste of computer space/money. Good graphics or go home!
So I guess you could call my an Eve Gamer.

Never ever played any MMO besides EvE. Never ever cared about any MMOs, actually.
Simply because EvE gives you a freedom of choice nowhere else to be found and besides that, i don't have to grind stuff to gain skills.

Fun thread! Here's my list:
Dark Age of Camelot - my first MMO and I still think it's better than so many newer ones. Sadly they chose to sell it short
City of Heroes - simplistic yet amazingly addictive MMO, quite a lot of fun
EQ2 - while certainly not bad I couldn't get into it, I started playing at launch and there were many issues so I just gave up. Later on it didn't seem worth investing time into
Guild Wars - in my eyes not a "real" MMO but fun for a while
WOW - been playing since launch, took some breaks along the way but it was fun as long as you played with friends. Now I just can't do it anymore
LOTRO - played it at launch, was fun at first but it becomes indigestible fairly fast if you're not a real LOTR fan, I'm not
Vanguard - played at launch, was full of game breaking bugs and didn't run too well on my PC back then. I quit within a week. Not too long ago I had a go at it again and it has aged well, sadly the player base is too small now which is a shame as it deserves better
AOC - played from launch, the starter island made promises the game itself couldn't keep
DDO - tried it for a bit as it was free, while it certainly has its good points it suffers from the "Turbine bore"; technically it's all there but it lacks soul
AION - played at launch, didn't live up to the hype, not even slightly
EVE - I quit WOW completely and have been looking for a replacement, EVE might fit the bill and so far I'm having fun
My EVE blog (yes, I type too much). |

In roughly chronological order:
Dark Age of Camelot Planetside EVE Online (and still do, of course) Final Fantasy 11 World of Warcraft Warhammer Online (have to say, this was the biggest disappointment. So much potential ruined with a rushed, content-starved release. The class designs were freakin' awesome!) Age of Conan Star Trek Online Global Agenda World of Tanks

MUDS (Various pre-runners to graphical MMOs) EverQuest (From release until 1 year ago, missed beta due to working abroad ) RF Online (Beta until Western servers closed) Star Wars Galaxies (Release until combat update & Jedi nerf) Vanguard (Release for 1 year! Great but so full of bugs ) Lord of the Rings Online (Post release until 1 year before went free to play) City of Heroes/Villains (Beta until 18 months ago) wow (Open Beta and hated it! Over simple, so boring, so garish and full of 10 year old 'kiddies' with gutter mouths ) EVE (2011+ Wish I had found it in 2003 )

Edited by: Wrayeth on 03/09/2011 19:19:26 Star Wars: Galaxies (My first MMO; it was absolutely awesome before player Jedi even with all of its bugs and balance issues.) EVE (7 years!) Vanguard:SoH (So much potential, released faaaar too early.) Age of Conan (See the note for Vanguard. At least the graphics were nice. :P ) Fallen Earth (Great game, just couldn't interest any of my RL friends in playing. I haven't been able to do that with EVE, either, but EVE's unique and awesome enough even in its current state for me to continue even without any RL buddies.) -Wrayeth --> Insert Useless Signature Here <-- |
