Edited by: Test Crab on 30/08/2011 01:48:09 I want to have for my character, 3 ships to chose from when doing missions to have the best ship for the job. I want Machariel and Nightmare for two of them, but not sure what to go for the third. I was thinking maybe a missile or hybrid boat, but not sure what would compliment my other ships.
which ship do you think i should get? I plan on missioning for the 4 empires.
edit: i can already fly tengu and use it for level 4's, but want to move onto semi expensive fit battleships.

A Navy Scorp or a Rattlesnake fits your missile boat requirement and will act as a damage sponge. Mach and Nightmare are moderate to long-range ships so you probably don't want to pair them with a blaster ship.

Just because the Macha has a falloff bonus doesn't mean it's a "moderate range" ship. Opt is still just a hand full of kilometers. So you will need to get in the face of you enemy to make use of the 1000dps, the advantage of the achariel is that it can put out good DPS even on the way to the target. That said, OP stated that he is going to use all 3 on one character, so not at the same time.
I think this is a bad idea. Just get a Machariel, pimp it out for the money you would put in the other ships and you have your "one for all" BS. Just change the prop mod according to missions and enemies. MWD for long range missions, AB for close.

If you were to add anything to that happy pair, I'd probably suggest a Golem. It's a circumstantially useful ship with tremendous DPS output and perfect damage selection. However, it suffers whenever enemies get beyond faction torpedo range. Since the Machariel and especially Nightmare don't have this problem, it seems like a good match.
It's not even remotely close to the other ships in terms of training, but that doesn't seem bother you.

I'd say tengu for the occasional mission where you need kinetic damage and resists, that being said, I really doubt you'll use anything but mach and nightmare.

Definitely Tengu, and I fear the nightmare will be rarely used once you get comfortable.
This is more or less exactly how I did it, except I had a golem aswell. That said, the difference between golem and machariel isn't all that great, and the mach can very well do what the golem does as good(if not better) or very close to.
Reason for the tengu is that there's so many missions where a fast cruiser is so much more important than the last few bits of dps. To mention a few; Recon, Stop the Thief, Damsel in Distress, Blockade, Cargo Delivery. Parrots, commence!

I don't think a person with a domi can be an overachiever - more like multitasker. The 2 ships you need you already have - nightmare with tachyons is for em/thermal/ammo saving purposes mach with a mwd is for flying around high speed and shredding frigates/cruisers/bs to pieces. The tengu might be good for missions with a lot of jamming - whether through ECCM or fof missiles tengu is pretty good vs guristas - it also has the right damage type and the right resists type.

since i dislike missiles, that's what i fly:
nightmare (tachs): sansha, blood, longer range mercenaries and drones paladin (pulse): like above but short range missions mach: angels vindi: guristas kronos: serpentis, oem absolution (mwd, pulse): any mission, where you have to fly and get some stuff, but have to shot only a little (eg: recon 2/3, anomaly 1/2 and so on)
to sum it up, with the mach and nightmare you are pretty much set, because the mach can do serp/gur just fine, some even better than vindi/kronos. also keep the tengu and make it a fast blitzer, then you dont really need another ship.
if for some reason you are like me and like to fly different ships, try the above and also the vargur which is nice too.
cheers!

Vindicator. Its OK now and will excel in 4-5 months.
I agree however the Tengu is better for the quickie missions. . Adapt and overcome or become a monkey on an evolution poster.

Not sure how a Tengu improves a Machariel for speed (mwd fits run 4's just fine these days) but whateva...
I actually did run Macha and Tengu a bit at the same time in the same missions and I think Macha is far better in everything.
However best mission boat I have ever used personally was Paladin (single char) and that's just that...
Arguably my opinions represent to an extent the opinions of my alliance and in particular circumstances give rise to a valid "casus belli" claim. |

My 3 ships would be:
1) 1400 Maelstrom
2) AC 800 Maelstrom
3) Noctus
Anything more expensive and you're buying un-neccessary fluff

Golem is very skill intensive to fly well and probably not worth the training time. You could use the time to max out the Mach/Nightmare skills.
Tengu/Golem/CNR are missile based, so you won't be able to leverage your Mach/Nightmare gunnery skills.
Meh, you don't really need a 3rd ship, but if you insist, then go with the Tengu, or maybe even a Drake. If you're missioning for all the empires, the ability to use HMLs and AMLs in level 1-3 missions will be useful for grinding standings.

I got the impression that he wasn't especially skill point constrained, but yes, the Tengu is probably the most efficient complement to his existing ship layout. My only complaint with it is that missile implants and gunnery implants often compete for the same slots. (Specifically slot 7 and 10).

You've never flown a mach then, because you clearly don't know what you are talking about.
To the op, I use 2 ships, tengu and mach. The only ship i have not tried is a Golem. Rattlesnake is slow (when compared to the mach and tengu) but have used it for lvl5's.
I bet the tengu would fill all your needs and you could use it as your main and then try other ships from there.
I should add, I use the tengu over the mach when ever there are damps or ecm or where i'm lazy and FOF's are needed.

go vindi! its sexy and you will be able to blaster fit it for some missions, which is impressive. also when they eventually fix rails, it will be a fantastic ship.
rattler looks good (though a little too small) but is the most boring mission ship possible.
cheers!
