Edited by: Hypnagogia Ichinumi on 31/08/2011 17:09:03 Hi, I'm starting to get into exploration and plexes as a change of pace from my usual activities. I'm looking for some advice on a generally low SP ship that I can run some sites in nullsec with. With my skills, the ships of choice would be a drake or cane for actually running the sites. I'll be using a dedicated probing ship to find the sites, the switch ships to run them. (no alt for me)
So the question is if I'm using a drake or cane, what kind of sites can I reasonably solo? It seems that most radar/mag sites should be no problem in a BC but what about plexes? I know I'm not going to be doing any 10/10s, but what can I do? 8/10? 5/10?
Any advice appreciated.
Edit for clarification: By "low SP" I mean don't recommend a T3 because that's just not gonna happen. A BS is possible, but BC would be ideal.

No,the only thing a new player can do is log on and play with their skill Q.

It somewhat depends what space you're in, but I'd guess your absolute upper limit is 6/10 with good skills in a solo BC. Mags and Radars, like you said, should be a piece of cake, but if you try to fit for everything the analyzer/codebreaker will definitely eat into the tank you need in combat sites.
There's a semi-related thread from last week here.

Well, what I want to know is what type of space are you in? Hisec, lowsec, nullsec, wh? The type of ship you should use differs for each.
I've done all hisec DED plexes, C1 and C2 wormhole mag and radar sites, lowsec mag and radar sites, nullsec mag and radar sites, and up to a 4/10 in a Jaguar with a probe launcher. Plug resist holes with rigs, MSE, Faction AB, codebreaker and analyzer, and there's not much that can touch you. For more tanky situations, I keep a gistii b-type small booster in my cargo and just swap it out for whichever scanning module I don't need.
Plus you get to steal plexes right out from under the noses of people who separate their scanning and combat ships. It's a right laugh.

@ Zhilia: Thanks for the link
@ iKill: I stated in the OP that I'm planning on doing nullsec sites. I don't know much about the site spawning mechanics yet though - do you get everything there or will I only find higher rated sites? I would not be at all opposed to running some lower ranked sites in an AF, but my mail concern would be a lack of DPS to deal with any BS I may encounter even if I can speed tank it.

Ah, sorry, I missed that. In that case, your best bet is probably a racial battlecruiser with a strong tank. Dual-Rep Myrm, Drake, Cyclone, passive Hurricane. In nullsec, that should do you.
But keep in mind some of these plexes will definitely be out of your reach. Nullsec has up to 10/10s, which can destroy even a T3. You'd be best off sticking to Radar and Magnetometric sites, though you will need hacking and archeology 4 to be able to open all the cans. Maybe five. Some of those I've done in an AF, but you're right in worrying about battleships. I can't kill them, or at least I can't kill them quickly. It's a problem when they're preventing you from opening the cans.
And you only get higher rated sites in nullsec. A battlecruiser should be able to enter anything null can throw at you, so you won't be missing a thing.
