I am trying to increase my Gallente standing from (Bad) to neutral or better. I have been running some courier missions for Quafe company.
I got one of those storyline missions but it barely gave any faction (Gallente) standing at all.
Mistakenly I thought I didn't get any faction increase at all so petitioned it, but the GM confirmed I did get a (very tiny) fraction of an increase. He suggested it could be because Quafe co. possibly does not have a good a standing as, say Federation Navy, inside the Gallente faction.
So does this mean corps inside the faction all have different standings and their agents end up giving different standings gains? I thought it didn't matter which corp you used so long as it was a member of the faction?
Which corps would be best for standing increase for Gallente in this case? Preferably using Distribution agents.

If you want to get a good faction standing to Gallente fast and easy, the missioning for a Corp isn't the best way.
Refer to this Faction Standing Repair Plan for further information.

Look at the Derived Inter-Faction Standing Modifier table (second table).

Edited by: Dogius Meatius on 31/08/2011 19:30:24 Hello and thanks for the pointers. I have had the faction repair plan bookmarked for a long time and will be following it later after some more Social skill training.
Edit: Well now I did one storyline mission for Quafe and one storyline mission for Federation Navy. The Navy one gave a noticeable change in faction standing, Quafe one didn't! So there is a difference between which corps you use??

Different storyline missions give different standings. Some are really good; some not so good. Courier missions give less than security. The level of missions you've been running factors in as well. You'll find that multi-part storyline missions are pretty good, but they save the real standing increase until the last mission. While each corp within a faction might be better or worse, I haven't personally noticed this. I'm unaware of any differences in standings between corps and the factions they're a part of. You can check though, by looking up an NPC corp in game, clicking show info, and then click the Standings tab. It will break down the NPC corp standings for you. |

I've had a 27% increase from a combat storyline and a 0.58% increase from gimme some rocks, err, "war materials".
All depends on what mission it is.
Make sure that whatever storyline agent is sitting in a corp that belongs to the faction you want to raise. They will always give you the "closest" agent, which could be sitting in a minmatar faction corp. This would give Gallente an increase but it would be much much smaller than the one for minmatar.

Last I checked, this is wrong. Storylines will spawn at the closest storyline agent for the relevant faction. So if you're running for a Gallente corporation, you will always get a storyline from another Gallente corporation, even if there is a closer one for another faction.
Picking the location of your 16th mission is still relevant though: you'll get a large boost to standings with the SL agent's corporation -- so if you're grinding corp standings on top of faction standings, it would be important to run your 16th near a SL agent in the correct corporation.

Confirming this is still the case - your storyline agent will always be from the same faction which you run missions with. One thing though it is not always the closest agent in jumps - sometimes it will prefer an agent which is in the same constellation but actually a jump farther out or something. You need to experiment with this to see if you are getting the storyline agent you need.
I've been known to get storyline from different agents when flying all my normal mission with only one agent. (All these agents were of the same faction - and it might be coincidence but this has only happened to me since Incarna, though I did start flying with a new agent then)

Edited by: Dogius Meatius on 02/09/2011 11:53:42 Thanks for the info! I don't suppose anyone could suggest some agent locations which would lead to a decent storyline agent/faction increase? Or which storyline agents give the best increases so I can try to mission around them? I am doing courier so as not to damage standings with other empire factions but could do one or two combat ones I suppose towards the end of the 16 run.

Its not the agent. Essentially agents have a list of possible missions they give out. The pool is fairly standard, no matter the agent. There seem to be slightly different pools depending on the type of corporation (e.g., the navy corps appear to give out more missions to fight other factions). Your standing with an agent allows you to get the better missions from the pool, but it doesn't guarantee that you'll get it. If you ever played D&D back in the day, it's a lot like a random encounter table.
If you're looking to get faction standings, it almost doesn't matter who you mission for, as long as the agent is in your chosen faction. You'll be looking for an agent who is close to a storyline agent in your faction. Storyline agents also give out big fat corporation standing increases for their corporation. So, if you want to build faction standings AND standings to a particular corp, you'll want an agent in your chosen corp who is closer to a storyline agent from your chosen corp than he is to a storyline agent from another corp in the same faction.

So far, in my totally unscientific testing, you can always find an L2 agent in the same system as a storyline agent from the same corp. I think this might be true for L3 agents as well.
edit: courier missions give tiny amounts of standing. Do combat missions but turn down the ones against opposing factions. |
