It just makes you look like an over extended, failing developer when every question is answered with a version either "we wont being doing it in the foreseeable future" or no "thats too big of a project."
Seriously you guys should be embarrassed to charge money for an MMO that has no development all being done.

There is development tho Just not on this game -------- CCP knows better than the players whats good for their game. SOE knew what was best for SWG too. Better than all those players that left too. |

agree
except with the second part. I'm quite sure their CEO is rather proud they are successfully charging money for a game they stopped putting money into
all they need to do is keep up the ruse for a couple years and they'll have made several games they can milk for money without further development
--- Players are losing faith and loyalty in CCP due previous expansions not living up to player expectations. The CSM and CCP agreed that expectation management can be improved |

Its not fundamentally embarrasing to charge money for an MMO you are not developing. What's embarrasing is charging for an MMO you are not developing that is so clearly and totally incomplete.
If eve were as tight as, say, world of warcraft pre-catacysm was, which is to say some lingering issues but all the major content playable and enjaoyable, if WoW is your thing, then that'd be ok.
Unfortunately, right now its resembling a mishmash of tabula rasa and SWG:NGE just before they collapsed, and thats both pathetic and scary.

You guys are being stupid. You realize that a lot of MMOs don't typically have this much development going on after launch, especially this long after the first launch, except for the occasional expansion?

Immature. As far as I'm concerned, EVE Online has met its core game design parameters, and they are going for more. Would you have preferred that they didn't do Apocrypha? Would you have preferred they skipped Trinity? Would you have preferred they didn't do Incursion?
We could be stuck playing Pre-Trinity EVE-O, and it would have gotten boring and dull by now - and more gamers would have quit. Is that what you want?

No we just want adequate resources spent on the game that helped give CCP the opportunity to develop more games. When you couple the fact that CCP have stated that a large number of staff have been switched to Dust, and that Incarna is taking a large amount of time in itself for development, it doesn't take a genius to realise that core issues are being pushed aside and ignored in preference of making more money through rushed Captains quarters expansion that are essentially a dressing room for the nex items.

Let's put it this way. When they finish Dust 514 and get most of the issues revolving around that game fixed up, they'll be able to refocus on EVE itself. Dust 514 is a FPS unprecedented in scale and design goals, so it's only sensible that they allocate an adequate amount of resources to ensure its success.
Yes, that means shafting EVE in some ways. I'm fine with that as long as Dust 514 is successful and enriches the future of EVE. What most people are worried about is whether or not this will actually turn out to be the case. If Dust 514 bombs, CCP takes a serious hit. If Dust 514 is a marginal success, it's not as bad. If Dust 514 is a major success, they will be able to produce results for both Dust and EVE.
So personally I am more worried about whether or not they will be able to reallocate resources back to EVE's development once Dust 514 is completed. What happens with that is dependent on Dust 514's level of success as well as the state of Incarna by that point.
TL;DR I'm not very worried.

You really are naive aren't you.
They aren't going to "refocus" back to Eve. Wake up and wipe the Stockholm from your eyes.
-IF Dust and Darkness are both very successful CCP will bank the profit and move on to their next project. There might be a couple guys in CCP's basement that "refocus" back to Eve. Eve has plateaued and they know it. They'll continue to milk what cash they can from it and that is it.
-If Dust and/or Darkness fail miserably.... well let's just say the people that were going to be "refocused" on Eve will be out of a job. Plus side? I imagine LOTS of new items would hit the Aurum store

I disagree on the idea that EVE will not get further support after Dust and WoD. A sandbox has practically near-infinite expansion potential. That's more than enough to really point out that it has plenty of legs.
Why do you think they're doing Incarna now? This is another one of those near-infinite possibilities being fulfilled.

TL;DR I'm not very worried.
I don't play Dust (nor will I), I play EVE. I'm not interested in "when Dust is done" nor should I be. I pay for EVE and I expect that the product I paid for is taken care of properly and is maintained well. EVE in it's current state needs a lot of work, lots of stuff that should have been handled a long time ago but got brushed aside because of their awesome scrum system and/or their CEO having these thoughts of grandeur.
Would EVE have been running remotely well where the main issues would have been taken care of (there'll always be little problems, no issue there) then I would have no problem with CCP investing my money into other products. But as it stands it seems that they're not using my money to work on the product I pay them for while it so desperately needs attention, instead they waste it on something entirely different while forgetting about the very thing I chose to pay them for.
I'm sure you understand this logic.

DDO is the first one that comes to mind. DAoC was adding content 6 years in and however old WOW is its still adding content.
But really age of the game has nothing to do with it. Uptill late last year EVE was growing in subscribers. Most game dont hit their peak population 7 years after release. And the only reason EVE stopped growing was that they stopped adding content to the space ship and industry aspect of the game.
Unlike other games EVE started losing customers after they stopped adding content. Most games Stop adding content because they are losing customers.

Your logic is flawed, surprisingly.
I don't care about Dust, this is true. But I DO care about EVE and that's what I'm complaining about. If you had actually read what I wrote you'd realise I have no issues with Dust at all. As long as EVE is taken care of they can do whatever they want with Dust for all I care.
But EVE isn't taken care of properly and because it isn't I'll start to look at reasons why it's not, part of that is other projects taking up too much resources and money. Why should I have to silently agree to have the product I PAY FOR be syphoned of it's resources and left in the dark, in favour of something I don't care for?

Seriously you guys should be embarrassed to charge money for an MMO that has no development all being done.
Agreed. +1

I never bought a plex or used one. I don't support CCP schemes. I pay one year last year. I've been offered by friends plex's to keep me in eve. I've refused it. Its about principle. If you guys like this system I'm happy for you. Good luck with that. In life I'm staring you. In death there I sent you. |

Edited by: Wolf Kruol on 02/09/2011 03:00:32 When I payed my sub for the year I didn't know what I was doing. I found that mistake out one month too late. I wanted to give eve a chance. But it was done so I made the best of it. 3rd month playing and I didn't like eve at all. Only the community kept me here. Rather unique bunch. Best part of eve. But there is only so much crap I can take from CCP and friends.
Plex I don't like it adds easy way for players to get stuff instead of working for it. But its a method for ccp to control money farming and get rich.. But now they there third currency.. Well when will they bring in the next one?
I don't care no more.. I'm just enjoying these chats.. There fun. And blowing my last few ships up too. before I go. In life I'm staring you. In death there I sent you. |

I once thought no community could be worse than Bungie.net
*Moves forward 7 years*
*Visits Eve online community*
*Watches as fans preemptively cancel subscriptions for no reason*
*Watches rage-filled fights unfold as a handful of inconsequential things are changed*
*Sees people getting mad at things that haven't happened*
*Watches best MMO on market get told off, again for no reason*
I'm not sure whether that's a win or fail; but either way, my hat tips to you Eve community, you have truly overcome Bungie.net.

IMO
But I believe I speak for most here when I say I think Eve is the (Current) best MMO available at a cost.

lol, how about guns actually missing when they miss, and not warping straight through everything... etc etc. A lot of unfinished stuff in this game, and very little being done about it it seems.

If you're bored with Eve and ****ed that no new content you like is coming soon, why are still you here? I'm sure CCP will send you an email when they do have shiny new features.
It seems to be an epidemic with MMOs that players stick around far beyond the point of boredom and whine at the developers demanding to be entertained or rage when whatever was released last fails to live up to their expectations. It's a product. If you are no longer satisfied stop buying it.
