Hello,
I just want to know : Is there possible to enlarge a drone bay ? I get only 5m3 in my Tormentor, just enough for only one hobgobelin.
If you have any idea of another and better mining vessel with a larger drone bay, I'll take it. :)
Thank you.

Weellà the long answer is "on a select few ships, yes through skill bonuses, but otherwise, no". ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡ you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki

Osprey has 20 m3 drone bay and mining bonus ... can`t think of other cause i`m not familiar with them ^^
but it`s a cruiser , and i suppose all racial mining cruisers have larger drone bay.

That would have been the overly long answer :)

Just look at the item database for frigates and cruisers. All the mining frigates are pretty limited. They are afterall just among the first level of ships accessible to a new player.
The mining cruiser for the Amarr is the Arbitrator. It is a very good ship as tech I cruisers go. In fact is the best pve and pvp Amarr cruiser as well. Huge drone bay to go with it's mining/combat drone bonus and and e-war bonus. So train frigate 4 and start training Amarr cruiser.
Basically you fly up near to the roids, release the mining drones and your two mining lasers. When rats spawn, recall the mining drones, which won't have far to travel if you are near the roids, and then release 5 hobgoblins with attack bonus. High sec rat spawns are no match for an arbitrator's drones.
If you want to mine meaningful amounts you will have to train mining barge though and get into exhumers eventually. If you want to pve or pvp with drones you may want to cross train to Gallente ships for the Domi. |

Am I wrong or are mining drones crap anyway? I have mining drones lvl5 and the amount it gathers is very little. I replaced them with offensive drones on my retriever.

It's in the description for the ship - "Amarr Cruiser Skill Bonus: 5% bonus to Tracking Disruptor effectiveness per skill level and 10% bonus to drone hitpoints, damage and mining yield per skill level". Depending on skills the 5 mining drones on an arbitrator can outmine the 2 mining lasers.
Returning to the idea of cross-training Gallente ships, the Vexor also gets this bonus, and has 3 turret slots for mining lasers. However, iirc the vexor's cpu becomes problematic, whereas I don't remember cpu problems on the Arbitrator. I also forgot to mention the prospects of one day flying an Ishkur, Ishtar, Thanatos, and cough Nyx with training Gallente ships and focusing on drone skills. Hybrids may be currently weak but could be getting a buff "soon."
In any case, OP, the easiest path to getting what you asked for is to keep training your amarr ships. Beyond that cross training another race of ships is useful for many reasons, options and nerf protection among them. Gallente would not be a bad choice even if many people salivate ofer and would suggest Caldari or Minmatar instead.
Unfortuantely there are no rigs or mods to increase a drone bay. Your only option with drones are skills and ship choice. Maybe drone mods and rigs will get some love someday. Like rogue drone officer mod drops - Hive mother PWN001 sentry damage mod or supplemental drone bays or such anyone? |

150 m3 seems to be a very good capacity for drones.
But 2 turret hardpoints isn't too little ?

No. Not for a mining cruiser. As I said, nost likely, depending on your skills, 5 mining drones with the ship bonus will outmine your two turrets. So effectively you have 4+ mining turrets. Now the Vexor has 3 mining turrest and the same bonus to drones. But, I remember an alt having fitting difficulties with CPU as a new character using that mining cruiser. So it meant filling the lows with multiple cpu upgrades instead of cargo expanders or mining laser upgrades and just one cpu upgrade.
The Arby is just probably the easiest path for you I would think at this point, since you already have likely trained amarr specific ship and weapon skills, even though you are only 5 days old. You could easilly cross-train to another race right now, but why not make use of what you already have to start out with.
Basically you appear young enough that you probably do not know what you will want to do in eve yet. There will always be time to cross-train another race, and you should at some point do that. But, as a path of least resistance for starting out, I was just suggesting you train into the amarr mining cruiser.
The really nice thing about the Arby is that it makes an excellent level 2 mission boat and cheap pvp boat. And with a passive shield fitting and good drone skills you could even do some level 3s with it. This is particularly so against Angels and Guristas, against which the typical amarr laser boat struggles.
As I said, if you are going to mine you will want to train mining barges etc anyway. If you decide to run level 3 mission, the arby will serve you some until you train into the amarr battlecruisers (prophesy can be fit with projectile guns and serve as a somewhat decent angel/gurista amarr level 3 mission ship). Also the arbitrator makes a good cheap pvp ship as well. Don't try fitting it with neuts though as the ship gets no neut bonus. Go weapons in the highs, but that is for a different thread. Do a search for arbitrator pvp fittings. |

Depends on the ship. For a hulk, you get 50m3, which means a full flight of lights for rat killing, with room leftover for a full flight of miners.
It's more ore per hour, no matter how little it may seem. Extra yield is extra yield.
