Hi,
I see a lot of posts about we don't want CQ and WiS etc but I wanted to put an opinion out there as to why CCP is going to force this on us.
CCP is a business (I know I lol at that too). Therefore they must have investment from banks or the private sector to keep the expanding into new areas.
I've seen in several topics that CCP has spent years developing CQ and WiS. All this has probably cost an unbelievable amount in development staff wages.
So, if CCP were to abandon CQ or make major changes they will have to write off all these development costs and report it in their statements to investors/banks. To do this would be financial suicide as to admit to investors that what CCP took their money for is being completely rejected by the player base would be just the same as saying that we took your money and your not getting it back because we messed up and didn't understand our customer needs.
Much the same happened with C&C4. EA spent money on trying to completely change the game mechanics of RTS. They failed to see that people liked C&C the way it was and that the improvements to the game mechanics was all that people wanted. By the time the playerbase had reacted to much had been spent and a return was needed. In the end the game flopped and the francise appears to now be lost for ever.
Just wanted to put my views on this out there before I see the game hitting rock bottom and dying.
It appears now that it is too late for EVE to recover as the devs only want to listen to the CSM and they really are only interested in looking after the interests of their alliances or areas of space.
If CCP truely wants to recover this they should dispand the CSM and give everyone a vote on how the game development should progress. This is everyones game, not just the big alliances and CSM's. Every EVE player should have the right decide how this game progresses in the future.
CCP can't really afford to roll with their own ideas at the moment and because of how expansive this game has become they cannot make any decisions without annoying someone in the game and losing subscriptions. Therefore, they should only go with ideas that the majority of the playerbase has asked for, not the crap that a small group of CSM members want or the stuff that a small group of devs think would be good to bring in.
Troll time :)

EA didn't give a rat's ass what the community wanted, they're EA! I'm actually amazed that BCPT and all that lasted as long as it did though. Can I have your Vindicator? :D |

To be honest, I don't think CCP are trying to force anything really.
The non-optional CQ issue was, in my opinion, more a lapse in judgement than a deliberate attempt to force their customers to do something. They very quickly provided a temporary workaround, which while marginally less functional doesn't actually change gameplay. Basically, everything else is still in the game.
Whilst I don't like some of the immediate direction that the development is taking (specifically, the Nex store, and the haphazard way in which incarna has been released), so long as we don't get microtransactions I will be happy, as I DO like the general ideal of a total scifi simulator; I really hope Dust is a success and I'm interested in some kind of meaningful Incarna, and I look forward to seeing CCP succeed.
I'm not saying that they will (they have made some pretty daft decisions recently), but I really hope they get their arses in gear and do these things properly; they still MIGHT be really good.

Edited by: Misunderstood Genius on 01/09/2011 18:36:24 Since 2005 I see an evolving game. Better than ever expected. CCP gave us a graphics upgrade - what is a huge task - and now we have the beginning of something you even can turn off if you don't like it. And a lot of other stuff making the game better. CQ is just a small first step to something new you are able to ignore or use. A preview of probably something bigger and much more exciting all these forum smart-a**es are able to imagine atm. Walking on stations is just another logical add-on in the the EVE universe and also here you can decide: I will use it or not. Like the decision: I will PvP, carebear, trade, doing industry etc. I am really tired of all these prophets on the forum knowing how to do CCP business and they all see the future of EVE inside their shiny, glowing glass sphere perma-preaching that EVE and CCP will die, die, die because of lies, CQ and bugs. Probably EVE is dead some day. Everything has its end. So I just recommend: use your remaining RL time, stop wasting your brain ressources on what CCP is doing, can't do, will not do, promised to do, failed at etc. and just ENJOY THE DAMN GAME. It works, it's awesome. If you disagree you probably fly around with the wrong people. Noone of my corp/alliance mates and noone I am still in contact since 2005 ingame is really complaining. I am wondering what all these forums whiners are doing ingame? It must be very frustrating to log into a game you'll hate. Here in my channels everyone enjoys the time, fleets and chat.

Quote: Unknown Submitter> A large number of EVE players do not like to leave their ship every time they dock. Some have computer hardware issues running several clients, some find it extremely immersion breaking and completely against EVE lore, and some would just rather abstain from Incarna alltogether. The return of the old ship hanger or some version of it with a disembark button would make all those people happy. When does CCP plan to do it? Response> No, we don't have any plans for that. Incarna is essentially an addition that is central to the future of EVE.

"Central to the future" doesn't necessarily mean forced. Since "the future" is basically synonymous with "development", it means that a they intend this to be a major feature they will expand on. Surely we all knew this was always intended to be a big thing?
Also, where did you reference that from? I was under the impression that some CCP emplyee had confirmed that they do intend to return some kind of ship hangar view, but they wanted to do it with their new technology, and do it "right". (Note, I cannot reference this myself... I might have just been having a nice dream) ---- I like the base. |

its called asking players and listening to them, ccp and EA both ignored players
did EA ask if players wanted a complete change in the game mechanics? no what happened? game fail.
CCP didnt ask if players wanted to be forced to load a buggy closet, what happened? drop in playerbase. lots of people are quitting, or reducing the number of accounts they use.
some fanboys will say incarna is great, weather they are payed, ******ed, or just trolling who knows but the majority simply wants a button to disembark into the cq. Eve online next expansion details |

Oh ffs. Before incarna, there was ****loads of posts talking excitedly about WiS. There are a few ****ups associated with it
- its intrusive to people who aren't interested - that needs fixing.
- it was released without meaningful content - that led to disappointment (though its understandable devs wanted to get field exposure to the code they had).
CCP won't see ROI until there is a game-play aspect to WiS. The tragedy is that so far CCP have not managed to explain what the game-play element will be, or why WiS will be a good thing. I suspect trailer content that appears to allow you to shoot people in stations is a lie - included because they haven't a fecking clue as to how to involve WiS in meaningful game mechanics.
c'mon CCP - what will we be able to do in stations, that merits the investment????

CCP's ROI on Incarna is us paying them to allow us to beta test WoD technology elements for them.

Good points. I agree wholeheartedly. CCP thought they could run with the big dogs, gambled it all, and will likely crash and burn, taking EVE with it. Its a shame, Eve used to be kind of kool. Once. Like 3 years ago.
