In the international trade of WMD materials there are so called 'dual-use' items, things that can be used for normal purposes or to develop nasty things. A barrel of chloride can be used to purify water or make poison gas.
What we see coming from CCP is increasingly dual-use releases. They are released on EVE but can just as easily be used for their upcoming World of Darkness MMO. Incarna for instance is basically a big beta test for their character animation and enviroment software. The same goes for the new forums and EVE-gate, a new game will have forums and some sort of social out of game networking thingie. In the most recent 1.1 patch there were exactly two things not dual-use EVE-only bits, the drone attributes showing correctly and ship switch session timer and they both are seriously bugged, indicating a serious lack of resources allocated to developing and testing EVE-only features.

Edited by: Rainus Max on 02/09/2011 09:57:47 I think there's only 2 things this expansion has potentially shown us:
1) CCP doesn't like to make their 'end products' (IE CQ, PI) anything like what they originally planned (see original incarna demo, Fanfest presentations etc). That might just be how things had to develop due to technical issues.
2) There is a section of CCP that don't like to listen to the player base and unfortunately it really feels like its the big bosses that have the final say. Don't get me wrong there are some F***ing fabulous Devs out there that will bend over backwards to make the players happy, but lately there is a miserable spectre in the background that forces things through that go against the grain of Eve or kills off ideas that 99% of the player base would give a testicle (or ovary) for.
The idea of Incarna is OK and the probably a good chunk of the population would be in the 'I can live with it' category, but its only 5% complete. Put it this way - if you went in for heart surgery would you be happy if I did 5% of the work, charged you ú30 for optional coloured stitches and then said the rest will be done over the next couple of years?
I hoped CCP had listened to the 'riots' a few months ago but its again starting to look as if they are ignoring us.
Oh and one thing CCP - Pooping on our face but giving us the choice of left side or right, is still pooping on our face!

I find it amusing watching people's attitudes change as the months go by.
There's a couple of people in this (and other threads) who were white knighting :ccp: just 3 months ago. Now they're just the same as the people they were arguing with
Incarna brought nothing in terms of gameplay and if the multiplayer version of WiS is released by this time next year I will be astounded. I suspect that what you'll have in July 2012 will be one room outside the door and that's it. Oh and a shedload more crap in the NeX store.
Better have an ASTOUNDING Winter expansion :ccp: or you really are ****ed. I for one won't hold my breath as Soundwave is already spinning down expectations.

Half the problem with EVE is the sheer toxicity of some of the members of it's community.
I can post on a forum, therefor a speak for everyone in EVE.

The API upgrade, while not directly influencing your spaceship is a pretty nice upgrade to EVE. I personally enjoyed switching ships quickly last night after the removal of the session change timer there. I have always had the problem of jumping into the wrong ship... These both came out in the Incarna 1.1 patch

I just came back to game, and found out that the last major patch did nothing of value to my game play. Walking in stations is pointless and boring. Then there is that useless store...
Why not add new regions, new items, new ships etc... Maybe more missions, new npc's.
Or fix some issues that the game has had since before I started playing in '06.
How about roll back to Trinity. Then re-ad the new ships and wh space.

Because they have WoD to work on and these things dont make the 0.0 ppl happy somehow an thats the only ones they care about appeasing. -------- CCP knows better than the players whats good for their game. SOE knew what was best for SWG too. Better than all those players that left too. |

While I haven't got the slightest clue what the API upgrade really does (I'm no techie), the session change timer is really nice. I'm pretty bitter about CCP altoghether, but when it comes to small things that matter, they're actually doing much better than other companies imho. It's just they fail at the big feature addition, implementation and iteration. _________________________________________________

Damn how long to change the Session timer behaviour ? Months ? something I'm pretty sure can be done in a day's work, and that includes testing your changes, something someone clearly hasn't done since we have now mods going offline for no reason randomly, again, something that was happening in the test server ever since the new dock/undock code was being tested, really, you guys are just proving that your best development skills lie down in webdevelopment/webservices and not game development.
I usually attend the mass testings and all that, but lately, the damn bugs in the test server are so bad it doesn't pay the effort, specially since they come over to the live server after they're fully known and reported in the test server, makes no sense, get new developers.

But it seems spoiled brats like the OP and a lot of other creating one whinethread after another think because they can't enjoy EVE anymore no one else should.

-CCP is no longer actively developing EVE -CCP lies. -CCP lies even more when players are upset. -Mitanni and the CSMs will believe anything if you act like they are important. -CCP is low on resources. -CCP continues to get away with this because no one else has a sand box game on the scale of EVE.
That CCP know how we pretend to feel about Eve, because they pretend to feel the same way. |

I realized this morning this is the classic case of ADD "New Shiny" syndrome. I've seen it several times before with game companies. EA buys Westwood and decides the Earth and Beyond is boring, pulls resources to make a new "game people will all like" which was going to be yet another Everquest like game and guess what, Earth and Beyond dies and the other game never even gets to alpha.
Then we have Ashron's Call, company decides to "make a much better game" and ignores AC. AC2 comes out, is basically horrible, today we have AC2 dead and buried and AC on life support with a small number hard core fans trying to find joy in a long neglected game.
Finally you have Everquest and Everquest II. Everquest II got all the lovin and now has declined to a sad free to play MT thing while the first and I think fundamentally better game (EQ) survives despite the lack of real attention at a fraction of its previous popularity.
CCP is obsessed with the "new shiny" of vampires and consoles. The latest expansions show that there are no real resources being given to Eve and I don't see it getting any better.
Good news is when Eve starts to die at least we won't have to deal with the hassle of the servers being consolidated! :-)

Sadly, this is more or less the conclusion I reached. Hence why I no longer play EVE.
Maybe CCP will change, but if they haven't cared about the million dollars in annual revenue they've already lost I don't know what will make them care. Maybe when these other projects don't pan out they'll notice.
Sucks to be us.
