From CCP Soundwave: "Apocrypha was a large expansion that took the resources of a large percentage of the company, and it turned out to be a difficult thing to handle - we don't expect to be doing anything on that scale again."
What happened to the can-do attitude and fearless ambition? I have :18 months: left on my subcription?

Quote: What happened to the can-do attitude and fearless ambition?
They went to "we'll try and we'll do it cautiously". Why?
Way I see it, they did a BIG update that nearly killed them. I remember the rage and whining then too.
The Incursion upgrade? It was multi-update over time to iron out bugs and bring in a gradual change. Now every man and his dog do Incursions and there are few if any complaints.
Just like Incarna is and has been. It is a progressive update to avoid massive head****.
As is being proven, CCP are damned if they do and damned if they don't.

CCP have said they're not going to do one huge expansion like Apocrypha again, and are going to focus on smaller, incremental rollouts of expansions that are split into multiple patches over the period of a few months.
I fail to see how this quote is news.

Its not really news however Apocrypha to most is considered one of the most successful and worth wild expansions we've seen. This really isn't just from a players stand point but also from a company standpoint they saw the largest increase in PCU and sub increase after its release. The staggered release has already shown to be horrible not only from some of the players perspective but also company wise.

Eve doesn't need something the size of Apocrypha.
Think about it - Apocrypha added W-Space. W-Space vastly increased the size of the Eve Universe - when we already had under-utilized regions of space. especially low-sec.
what wee need is tweaks
fix supers change sov mechanics to be non-blob make it worthwhile to risk player pirates while in low sec etc
we don't need more space, we need tweaks. we need new mechanics more to the scale of Incursions (Incursion is not nearly as big of an expansion as Apocrypha ... Incursion was probably 1/10th the work AT MOST).

Just so you know the success and why people want another Apocrypha style expansion is not because it added more space. The reason it was successful was due to the sheer amount of content that was added and made it really feel like a actual expansion. Not only that other then some issues with probing, there seem to have been very few bugs with its release(my memory is kind of fuzzy about this).

Apologies, my comment may be misleading; I am not suggesting we return to a monolithic patch that is a nightmare to implement. Smaller, incremental patches are entirely appropriate and the better option.
My alarm was at the sentiment of the statement from .wav, nominally "don't set your hopes too high, we are pretty much done with any large upgrades for the future of the game". I hope this isn't the case, but all evidence suggests otherwise.
When you only have 1 developer working on game balance and a prospective fix for the assault frigate bonus for example is not even on the radar and definately not coming with the winter expansion (this is an arbitrary example, I am not suggesting AF bonus is the most critical thing to be fixed) then it just shows how much everyone has to reign in their expectations.
Incarna 1.2 - Racial CQ's Incarna 1.3 - towel rail for Caldari CQ Incarna 1.4 - Amarr hair dryer Zzzz
2020 - perhaps a fix to some critical issue hotly debated in 2007.

CCP said apoc had the most bugs when they made it live out of any other expansion... BUT... it had content... that had to do with internet space ships...
This stupid put out an expansion every 6 months... time table BS is what gives you rushed ****. I'd rather have one good exp every year... or 1.5 years than stupid **** being rolled out now.
Wow I can heat up my computer room and jerk off solo in a station...
Maybe in another year I'll be able to jerk off with my alt in station... All 10000 patches does it make the game harder to learn as every week something is changing... and make it look like CCP is doing nothing...

Show me where it 'does'. A single room of irrelevant 'content' after 4 years is not much doing. :18 months:, more like ::18 years!::

Oh I thought he meant the amount of content for the release as a whole not just the timing of how it rolls out. Recent expansions as a whole haven't provided anything close to the amount of content we received with the apoc series of expansions.
He may have meant what you said though. -Cearain

Actually, it's your own fault that you don't enjoy an expansion many other players love because of the ISK rewards, PVR fleet gameplay and expanded story.
