Don't get me wrong, I've been always a noob ever since I started playing eve, but I remember I saw like 3 years ago a population of above 45k players online and I thought this game would reach 100k by the coming years, but that didn't happen. I like the changes but the good ones happened some expansions ago.
Now this is a serious question, just imagine EVE has been doing good, just as they did back from 2003 to 2007, and don't take into account the Captain Quarters expansion:
What do you think that the population will be like by 2014? I can't throw a number because of the recent changes, but I'd say 35k
Note: I'm talking about the concurrent online players

We are already at 30k average, expect not more than 15k online come 2014.

It does seem that US TZ seems to have gone downhill a lot. The EU TZ still sees somewhat high numbers, however it is still a little lower then previously and for being shortly after a expansion.

As long as CCP focuses on revolving the door faster ie: ignoring its BASE, and just not giving a **** about retaining players ... you'll see us at this stagnation point.
The game now is exposure. A little bit of something for everyone, just so they try it for a couple months and tell some friends about it. Doesn't matter if they leave in 6 months, we'll have new shiny stuff to draw in people in 6 months.
At the end of the day people will realize MOST MECHANICAL ASPECTS OF THE GAME are half finished and any fix to the game takes not months but YEARS for ccp to address let alone implement. And since CCP is not in the business of making eve anymore (they do not support their flagship game, they just dont. not by any reasonable definition of the term) well they have to sell the game another way.
Revolve that door. Faster and faster and faster.
--- Players are losing faith and loyalty in CCP due previous expansions not living up to player expectations. The CSM and CCP agreed that expectation management can be improved |

Quote: For those wondering what the percentage in EVE's growth was for +60 days after Incarna's release? Before I normalized it, it was up a bit. After normalization, the true number is -0.2%. The normalized +30 day number changes from the -1.8% I published on July 20 to +0.1%. In short, either there's been no growth from Incarna, or any growth has been neutralized by unsubs caused by this summer's dramas.

This is the sad truth. Also sale of monocles.
CCP has made it clear in the communications to us (or the lack of) that they only really care about money, not quality anymore. Kinda funny when Hilmar applauded the sale of monocles in that leaked mail.

CCP forgot what eve was meant to be and numbers have suffered as a result, the game is dying, there is no doubt about that and the sad fact is that if they were to roll back to apocophyra then the hardcore eve players that ccp abandoned might come back and help numbers climb again. All the CQ stuff is killing the game which is supposed to be about spaceships, not barbie in space

Most I have seen recently when I have been logged in is 38k, the least was 13k. I log in at various times of the day depending on where I am in the world. EVE time 00:00 - 04:00 is the lowest from what I have seen. In my base system (0.5) near lo/null I see maybe 1 player pass through in an evening.
Regardless of amount of subscriptions, if the server population gets too low then it will only serve to accelerate the decline as there won't be anybody left to play with except bots. I can't see people signing up (or sticking around) for a 'dead' game.
As it is I have about 4 hours left on this sub and have cancelled it, although I still have a few PLEXs somewhere in my assets I won't be applying them at the moment. Down to one account left now with 4 months still remaining, so hopefully something improves in that time, although Carrier 5 is a good skill to have queued... --

This is what i don't get. I started the game about 1.5 Months ago and did the trial about 3 months ago before incarna came... First thing i did was deactivate CQ because it loaded longer and i opened the nex shop exactly once for a giggle and closed it again. i find it crappy and i dont need it BUT it doesn't impair my playing at all.
why can't you people just ignore it and let the barbielovers have their thing? it doesn't impair your playing in any way unless they will bring items in which will alter skills or whatever but i doubt they would do that.
just ignore the cq and nex store and you still have the awesome game you played for so long...
edit: i don't want to get personal here, it could be that i am missing some key alterations because i am a new player...
edit2: coming from europe i never saw below 20k and max i saw was 45k i believe.

It's the rather sizable amount of bugs that aren't getting fixed, the neglect of many many features that have been added 50% or 75% complete like Faction Warfare, the Sovereignty system, Hybrid balancing, bugs with drone behaviour and so on that have been p1ssing people off over the last 2+ years. CCCP are also developing 2 other games, for which eve seems to be a testing ground, and using their live environment to test it. Now we have the current patch which added a stupid bug with offlining modules when you change ships that had been present on the test server for months and was widely known, yet the patch was still released. There are also a whole host of performance issues with Incarna that have been talked about ad nauseum elsewhere. --

You play since 1,5 months. Imagine you are playing for 5 years and get ****ed in the face by ccp every patch. Their standards are so low compared to other companies on the open market and they call that "excellence". I for my part, never played a game before where the developers seem to have absolutely no clue where to go with their development and where "new and exciting" features are pure crap after release and never get touched again afterwards. Enough is enough.

because CCP won't let us ignore that part of the game for long
they made it very clear that the option to disable loading the station environment is only temporary and will be removed in the future
they told us about their plans to tie the trade and consumation of boosters into CQ/Establishments
NeX items have social value - if nobody plays with CQ enabled they are worth far less than when everybody can see them. Why buy a pair of boots that all your corpmates won't be able to see? It would be stupid for CCP not to force you into CQ eventually.
It is only a matter of time until we will be pushed/forced to use CQ - either because the option to opt out will be deactivated or because features that impact EVE's Flying-in-Space part will be CQ-only.

Since I've been playing EVE Online the summer is always like this. People go on holiday and do stuff outside of EVE Online. Holidays are coming to an end, we should get a better idea over the coming weeks and months. I'm not saying there is no evidence to support lower active player numbers, but there are other factors which can effect this coming from within the game, not just CCP fails.

àexcept that the numbers do not agree with you. Summer usually increase the number of players, both because they have more free time to play and because there's usually a patch that boosts the numbers. This summer, the numbers did ù as usual ù increase when people started to have time off, but then dipped because of the patchà which is pretty much a first.
What we're seeing now, though, is not that: we're seeing the standard dip that happens when people go back to work/school at the end of summer. It's just that it comes on top of the unusual and significant drop that was caused by the release of Incarna, and that depresses the numbers (much) lower than one would have expected. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡ you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki

There's always less activity in summer, but there's no question that Eve's Growth rate has been slowing down to almost nothing for two years or a bit more.
Rueurning from a two years pause, I am dispapoointed that when I go pvp, the only diffrence I see in ship types is less megathrons and more tengus. That when I pve on my high-sec alt, there's not a single mission I haven't already done countless times long before.
Eve stopped growing when CCP stopped expanding on the "highway" that most everyone use, and instead created lateral small roads (Faction warfaire, incursions, wormholes, PI) that only a small fraction of the playerbase really use.
It's a rule in any MMO. If you don't include new content on a regular basis, you're bound to know stagnation, then regression. ------------------------------------------
