Here lets give everyone a little education in software development.
Class is now in session guys.
NOTHING EVER WORKS AS IT IS SUPPOSED TO!!!!
If it did, why do i have to update windows on a regular basis?
Why to i have to update steam on a regular basis?
Why do my other games have patches on a regular basis?
There are always unforseen circumstances when developing software. Just too bad most people here are too stupid to realize this.
OP - just be thankful that they were pretty fast on some of these fixes, CCP could have just called it a day at 6 pm. But is is now 2:12 am in Iceland and the devs are pulling an all nighter to fix bugs, as evidenced by this new emergency reboot. SO please STFU and go pod yourself back to an alpha clone.

Question of the week!!
CCP is saving some other poor devs in some other MMORG busting their ring while being stabbed repeatedly by children.
And... You'd have nowhere to rant needlessly either.

thank you for the information. however when bugs are in the code on sisi for awhile, reported repeatedly, EASILY reproduced, and still make it live? really?
I am VERY thankful of the quick fixes, and have played MMO's for well over a decade now. im quite familiar with the usual "patch day snafus"
its just some of this stuff just has me scratching my head and questioning some of the testing that actually GETS done on code before it goes live.

And for this reason it is utterly inexcusable for core features to not have been tested before rolling out an update. Has Steam ever needed an emergency update because they broke launching games? Have any of your games had an issue after an update where they regularly corrupt saves (Obsidian aside, they are almost as incompetent as CCP)?
CCP broke switching ships (wherein skills aren't applied and stuff gets offlined). This is something they should have noticed JUST FROM LAUNCHING THE GAME AND PRODDING IT FOR FIVE MINUTES.

Whining at whining is necessary, so the whiners know that they're nothing but little whiners! And did you just need to whine about whiners whining at whiners?

Yep. Way I figure, if the forum starts giving the trolls, sooks, cry-babies and spoiled brats as much **** as they expect they can dish out with impunity, they might gtfo and go play some other MMO.
That way the people who LIKE EVE and UNDERSTAND PATCHING/UPDATES and RECOGNISE ECONOMICAL IMPERIVATIVES might get to enjoy the forums, the game and the people in it.
Yeah. I'm mad. I need my retalin. I LIKE CCP and what they do. Get over it.

I would actually be happy if CCP just went ahead and said:
"Screw you haters, we are done taking crap from you. EVE is down, closed, FOREVER. Go play WoW you ****s"
On top of that I really hope all whiners would feel some satisfaction in knowing that every whine post they made helped CCP make this decision.

Except this isn't a forum about African children, terrorism, or the real-world economy.
It is a general discussion forum about a video game. People are discussing their views about that video game. Some of those views will be negative.
Perhaps you should find a different forum.

I like eve myself...well, let me be honest. i love this game. point blank. I quietly watched as a portion of the playerbase raged at incarna, and the coming of the NeX store. I personally have no use for incarna at the present, and the "rushed to the shelves" feel of it has left me with a sour taste in my mouth. The NeX, i REALLY don't like it, but it doesn't impact my gameplay, and as long as im not getting popped by 3 day old characters flying golden machs I'll live. CCP is a business after all. It's aim is to make profit for its shareholders, and itself.
My concern is that its becoming (at least to me) more and more apparent over time that CCP has lost its passion for EVE, much in the way a child does for an old toy as soon as he/she gets new toys. When i started playing i accepted the harsh learning curve and MASSIVE time investment required because i got the distinct impression that CCP had just as much passion for their creation as the players themselves.
I am simply voicing my concern over the (again, in my opinion) sloppy work i've seen from CCP as of late. forgive me if you think of me as a crybaby/spoiled brat/ect. You'll live, i promise.

There was that 2 day period that even if you were connected to steam you couldn't play games because it said I was not logged onto steam. It was like ok I'm connected online and can see internet games, but cannot connect to them because im not logged on.

Yes. The unforeseen is a problem in any complex environment. Nobody is complaining about weird and rare bugs that pop up if playing drunk on a Wednesday when the moon is in the 7th house.
Valid criticism is based upon the rampant errors and blatantly poor patching process which are simply not defensible if assessed by professional standards. CCP creates new problems every time they patch. Some get fixed. Some stay as "features". The cumulative result is a pronounced and unabated trend toward abominable quality overall.
Stupid people? CCP does have some very smart techogeeks. Read the blog about CarbonIO and BlueNet and how they fake out the GIL to gain efficiencies - high powered stuff. But, where are these smart guys during the patch cycle ?

Client updates are patches that may add new things or fix issues that did not have a chance to make it into the final build (a build can take a while to make). It is not uncommon for any game company to issue such client updates in association with a large patch.

Just because it's easy to spot, and what's going wrong seems to be obvious, doesn't mean it's easy to find and fix. It's not a massive game breaker (and I speak as a Ninja who lives and dies on my ability to swap ships in space), more of an annoyance, and not the sort of thing you want Devs spending too much time on if there are other things to worry about. You get the release out the door, then concentrate on these sorts of issues. I've just put out a release with the company I work for with a similar level of issue in it. Yeah it ****ed the customer off a bit (because everything that isn't perfect ****es off the customer), but they can live with it for a week while we fix it. Better that than shipping late.

From Wikipedia:
A patch is a piece of software designed to fix problems with, or update a computer program or its supporting data. This includes fixing security vulnerabilities and other bugs, and improving the usability or performance.
Though meant to fix problems, poorly designed patches can sometimes introduce new problems (see software regressions). -
