A slow day at the office so a quickpost about your favorite battlescenes in cinema
Recently i watched a rather old film and i was very impressed by some of it battlescenes, pre digital age, especially the charge of the british cavalry as seen in the link, tho the film has alot of historical incorrect facts and the wrong uniforms i did enjoy it , just for the fact i always been into historical tabletopwargamming (I wonder how it must have felt like being on the receiving end of such a charge)
I know there many other good films with great battlescenes films like Gettysburg Lord of the ringtrillogy Saving private ryan and others So what is your favorite scene ________________________________________ Minmatar are like jedi knights, we use ductape as our force, it has a darkside and a sticky side

May not fit the true definition of cinema, but:
The fleet fight from Clear Skies 2. I get goosebumps during the warp in
Even though I dislike the movie because of its cheese, I still like the capital ship fight from the Wing Commander movie. "Given the Broadside!" rings through my head every time I start up my artys.

Surprisingly EVE-like when one fleet meets a larger fleet.
Alliance vs. Reavers

Love that scene and was going to list it as well. I always wished they had a larger budget so it would have been longer. (Most of the budget went to the CG if i remember correctly.)
Another of my favoites is in band of brothers when Lt Speirs run through the German town.

Alliance vs. Reavers
it's a great fight sequence.
i have a great fondness for Firefly (it shows because i don't capitalize anything in a forum post ;p ) and the one thing that always bothered me about the reavers is this: if they are as batsh!t crazy angry as stated then they would never, ever be able to maintain a spacecraft for longer than it takes to blow up in ascent phase. it takes a bit of patience and thought to keep these things flying for any length of time as shown by kaley/engineering-whatnot. if a reaver were in an engine room, if at all, then every problem has the 'hammer solution' where every tool becomes a hammer.
i can only see this as problematic at best. yarr?

It's hard to say for me as there are a few that jump out...
The Battle of Hoth, from Empire
The battle near the end of Saving Private Ryan...
It might be the battle near the end of The Fellowship of The Ring, when they're in the forest being chased by the Ur 'Akha or however it's called; good battle and some really good acting from all the characters.
I'm surprised that I can't think of any really great battlescenes :( _______________ |

Glory, Band of Brothers, the automated gun turrets scene from Aliens.
Although to be honest, the thought of Napoleonic/US Civil War line formations and WWI style human waves versus machine guns type battles make my stomach churn.

Uruk Hai and yes I agree, I also like a few star wars scenes, Starship Troopers has some really good ones, Saving Private Ryan, invading the beach, and of course The Pacific has one of the best, can't look on youtube atm but will do as soon as

I like most all the movies stated above. The ones picked here are for the fighting impact within the storyline. Mostly.
Seven Samurai(1954). The final fight between the samurai and the bandits. Hell Is for Heroes(1962). During WWII, Steve McQueen leads an U.S. attack on a German pill box. The Bedford Incident(1965). Modern submarine warfare between a Soviet submarine and a American destroyer. The Challenge(TV Movie: 1970). Probably my favorite one on one battle movie. ôAll-out war between the United States and an Asian country is averted when the two sides agree to settle their differences by each choosing a single soldier as champion and having the two men fight to the death on an isolated island. ô Full Metal Jacket(1987). U.S. Marines involved in street fighting in 1968 Hue, Vietnam.
Best Regards. Nak hak, The Self-Righteous EVE Online, "It will be done when its done. If you don't like it, quit." LOL! |

I've always liked Memphis Belle.
Slow-ass B-17s flying through Flak and ME-109s, not many movies cover the particular horror of cramming into a ball turret.
Also from 1990 - Hunt for Red October - guiding the Typhoon past the Neptune Massive.
"Captain, we are out of position by so much as a boat length!" "Sound collision!"

loved this but raising your bid Same director same actor , paths of glory assault scene
Spartacus was the first and last time kubrick allowed himself to be controlled by one of the major film studios compared with other works from him it shows
Also Kirk Douglas was one of only 2 actors Kubrick allowed full freedom on the set , other one was Peter SEllers in DR strangelove I just LOVE Stanly kubrick and hiw works ________________________________________ Minmatar are like jedi knights, we use ductape as our force, it has a darkside and a sticky side

Cool battle from Babylon5: The Lost Tales. I'm not sure when it was made, but they vastly improved the big explosions, laser effects, and ships from the series.

El Cid, again pre Computer animated scenes. My old copy of this fim is dead now but I believe its on Blu-Ray now. Maybe they bring out Waterloo in same format. Ref El-Cid, no matter how many times I watched it, I couldnt see the Volkswagon Beetle on the beach. Although if you watch the background as Chuck and his army move towards the city you can see cars on the road in the background.
Another of Chucks films was Khartoum. Some good battle scenes in that.

I will submit the scene that I felt had the most power and sickening realism in the Band of Brothers series.
