It's no surprise. There's nothing "new" in Eve to chat about and no sign they'll do anything about old bugs and irritations anytime soon and the community knows it. COAD is likewise dying because null-sec has pretty much been "won" and the great game is over.

For me, it's the fact that CCP is obviously jerking it's customers around.
For instance:
Asking for player help identifying bugs then patching the game with those same bugs that have been reported repeatedly.
Developing content that excludes a majority of the playerbase such as the NeX with it's insane prices. It's not even that I care to play dress up. It's the fact that, even though I could, at those prices I'm not stupid enough to do so. Other players absolutely cannot. I mean, WTF? CCP could have had it both ways, exclusive NeX content and inclusive NeX content. The only hate that would come from that is it all looks like crap anyway.
Saying that they care about their customers and then doing the above.
Turning 18mos, which was a slap in the face, into 60mos to role out changes to null as if everyone playing doesn't realize that 5 years in the gaming industry is like saying "never" even though Eve is an 8yr MMO.
The belittling smack talk, the doublespeak, etc. Lectures on $1,000 pants. Leaked emails stating in no uncertain terms, "We don't give a fu**".
Add all the other failures, lies and deceit CCP racks up and it weighs on the customers. The word you guys are looking for isn't hate, fear, misgivings. It's demoralization. CCP is utterly demoralizing it's customers. The uncertainty that CCP's actions/inactions have bred in the community sucks the enthusiasm right out of customers.

Go populate some "the moonlanding were fake" forums.
The fact that you continue to pay money to simply QQ on the forums - is a type of gamestyle that I simply can't comprehend.

Many of us have 6-12 month subs, hoarded plex etc. There are alot of people hoping that CCP will give just a little and convince them to come back.
If for you the game is still perfect. Awesome, more power to you. But there are more and more people saying everyday how quiet space is, and outside of the obvious 0.0 block points and high sec market/mission hubs, the game is empty. For some the release of the nex store, Incarna, removal of simple hanger options, obvious hardware issues (and not just people with low-end, or old cards), lack of communication from ccp, still lack of respect (Emergency summit minutes, return of hanger function, cheaper nex items) from CCP to the very players who have supported them over the years with both money and valuable feedback are now seemingly being ignored in favour of quick money making schemes.
It's funny how the CSM/CCP statement after the Iceland visit says the accept that Fearless is just a opinion piece, yet if you read Hilmar's leaked mail, he clearly makes reference to the newsletter as being a way of getting a point across. They are outright bull****ting everyone and those who are still enjoying the game and not being bothered by this good on you.
Im spending my remaining game time ratting in 0.0 getting my sec status up. you can see quite clearly from my killboard here I've had 1 kill since Incarna hit. My "immersion" has been broken.

As I said if things are cherry for you, sweet. But not everyone likes the taste of chilli, or fish sauce, and are just waiting for CCP to remove a bit of the fire before we recommit to the game. ______

Excellent post. And for the ones complaining that complainers should leave the game, I have noticed recently that the numbers of people online have gone down considerably. Maybe its the fact that incarna 1.0.1 patch was bugged to hell, maybe not.
There is always hate on MMOG's forums, but I feel that in this case, lots of it is justified. CCP has for a while now continually done patches that I don't agree with, nerfed stuff I care about, ignored my bugreports and left those problems in the game, released patches with little to no quality control, made dev posts that reek of disrespect toward players.. Oh and I get the feeling all the manpower is in developing world of darkness or other projects..

The pot is simmering at the moment and ready to boil again quickly.
I think the next eruption will be the winter expansion. That's just based on their content light blogs and then comparing that to their performance in the last 2 years. Anyone that thinks 0.0 will be better after their changes is I'm afraid wrong. (recent anomaly nerf gives you a glimpse where they are going). Anyone that thinks nerfing high sec will fix things is wrong as well.

Under normal circumstance I would completetly agree with you. If there is one thing CCP has always done is push the game forward in new directions, leaving a healthy chunk of nay sayers behind without looking back. This has and is one of the most positive aspects of CCP and their handling of Eve. You can't please everyone, nore should you try, what you need to do is follow your vision.
The problem right now is that "healthy chunk" is no longer a small vocal minority. The number of people that have stopped logging in is very noticable in game right now. Last night when I logged in at about 9pm Stockholm time (prime time Europe), there was less than 25k people on. I haven't seen numbers that low on a Friday night in about 4 years. I also noticed that in the last week I haven't been on once when the numbers where above 32k which three months ago I would have said the oppossite, aka I had never seen the numbers dip below 32k.
So the impact is no longer a small vocal minority being outraged on the forum. There is a major exodus taking place in Eve and to be honest I wouldn't have believed it was possible, in fact somone tried to convince me of that a month ago and I more or less laughed in their face. But without looking at numbers I can see with my own eyes that their is a significant drop in the amount of people playing Eve right now, lower than I have seen it in about 4 years.

Actually you're part of the group that don't get it.
I and many others are happy with change. We've seen change come for many years, but with one difference, choice.
CCP's biggest selling point is that we are in a sandbox and no other game is like this one. This is true. But they just removed my spade, gave me a fork and told me it's better. Now I like the idea of having a fork, but would also like to have kept the spade.

Once upon a time, CCP loved EVE and was devoted to her. As time went by, their relationship flourished and, whilst they had their fiesty moments, both were happy.
After a few years went by, CCP got bored with EVE and her constant nagging, so decided to find a new love. Now CCP has fasllen in love with DUST, and spends most of his time and money on her. But CCP is still married to EVE, because he needs the money that she brings in to the household so that DUST can be wooed. So EVE feels trapped, the unloved partner, wondering what happened to the wonderful relationship that they once had.

One word: Ping.
You can have a MO with joystick for, say, 32-64 players, but that's not a MMO. And certainly not a MMO with 1,500 players in a grid.

CCP's customers are *****ed off*. From leaked internal discussions, it's apparent that management thinks only a tiny minority rage on forums while the silent majority are happy beavers playing the game and buying monocles.
This is a mistake. The reality in business is the other way around, research shows for every customer who complains there are far many more who say nothing but rather just don't come back.
CCP has a problem here, they have a lobby full of angry customers and they try to pretend it doesn't matter.
Bottom line.. if the players are mad as hell, CCP is doing something wrong.. we're supposed to be happy, that's what we're paying CCP for right? For a good time?

Wow... I just... words...
Quoting all of you is too much of a hassle. 1. OP, that is your opinion. Can you provide some relative information as to how you think CCP still maintaining an active playerbase is composed of luck at this point in time? Also... you started this thread... there are easily 3+ threads on the first 2 pages that relate fairly well with this one. I understand you have to put in your bid, but there wasn't much to go off of... you simply provided nothing to work with... 4k character limit.
2. Nothing to say on the X subject, other than the fact that the lack of a real subject to this topic could lead to such a topic being brought up.
3. As for CCP caring or not... You do realize that they are a bussiness, right? It is their job to care, but they have to weight money vs. happiness at all times for us all. The forums you use are in place for them, show some respect, even if you feel like you are getting ths shaft. They try.
4. Someone mentioned here also that they pay to be happy. No... you pay to play the game. difference. As everyone else says, if you don't like it, just don't play it, but usually the explanation is left out... the explanation is as simple as I've already stated. Because you pay to play the game, that is the only this CCP has to technically worry about for that month (to clarify, your game has to be playable (everything works on CCP's end)). CCP doesn't exactly HAVE to do anything. They choose to try to keep the playerbase happy because it benefits them. So they slipped up in some people's opinions... doesn't matter if they still play, but CCP can't be held responsible for an untimely failure to release game content that you dislike. They promise to release content, content gets released. You keep playing, good. you don't, that's the risk CCP takes. Apologies if there are any incorrect statements in the above, This is what I interpret, not entirely what would or would not be part of CCP's mission statement or anything along the lines of such.
5. Do people read devblogs?
6. 4.
7. 4.
8. people are stupid... complaining won't get you anywhere,... drop subs if you're that frustrated. If you keep playing, or keep running on your "excess of plex," the stats don't show up as poorly to ccp, thus they would find that what they are doing isn't so bad, assuming minimal losses.
9. In a post(will edit for link when I find it), CCP noted that, since the expansion started, they had to finish that expansion. Two thoughts come from this. One: They are aware enough that a portion of players hate this expansion that they might make a comeback in the next expansion (if not, whatever... CCP would be risking the playerbase currently, for a larger one. part of the gaming industry). Two: They are commited to their promise. 2 expansions per year. They seemingly don't want to halfass it (subject to opinion), even if the playerbase wants something else entirely.
Am I done yet?
I enjoyed Mag's post about the selling point and spade-fork.
Sorry, I'm typing as I read...
Richard Hammond II... you do know that the game surviving on subs will have to adapt to a loss of subs. thus causing subs to go back up (unless they fail to adapt). Telling people to unsub can be both productive and counterproductive. In a sense, the only thing people are failing to do is unsub after complaining. then they can resub when the game fits their liking. the counter to this is that if the player wants to be playing the game in the future, they have to stay subbed to train skills. I don't see a work around... they will just have to man up and risk 1-6 months of game time/sp gains :P
I feel like half of what I said was ******ed... by all means, rip me apart, I do enjoy a good thrashing to keep me in check. I haven't slept in a long while... so I expect I was not the most coherent being P.S. Just because you don't like something, doesn't mean 1+ people won't replace you if that something comes to pass.
