Edited by: nothing Kurvora on 02/09/2011 23:09:57 many times we fly around asteroid belts and accidently bump into other ships, while it's good that these to things don't collide it would be rather funny.
i'm proposing a ship or drone that can be packed with explosives and used to ram or detonate on enemy ships.
obviously the first thing anyone will type is "unbalanced bulls***" however i propose these items come at great expense
for example a suicide drone would have the option of being laden with explosives, however the explosives would need to be bought at a high price and even harder to make them (PI anyone?)
another thing would be that these things fly somewhat slow and about as maneurvable as a cruiser and a signature radius as such. these also don't have to cause a lot of damage, for example a plain drone would just bounce off of something like an osprey, however if used with explosives, it would cause considerable explosive damage, (negligent if tanked against explosive)
damage types *could* be: bare drone-kinetic explosive drone-explosive emp drone-EM drone packed with fuel-thermal
as for ships, these would be amazing suicide ganking tools however i propose that the ships, when detonated destroy the players's pod/character. this would prevent people from random attacks on newbies and such.
i offer this idea that the way warfare is to me in eve, is that it's a bit too "clean" yes i mean there are dirty tactics but this would just make it seem so lucious.
please feel free to criticize and all that jazz and forgive my lack of punctuaion

Because we totally dont already have ships with which to suicide. If only we had a specific ship that told EVERYONE AROUND YOU that you were going to attempt a suicide run. This is a terrible idea.

You shouldn't be concerned about newbies getting ganked this way... you should be more concerned about trade hubs going up in smoke when dozens of suicidal newbies/alt-characters show up. Their clones will be quite cheap. And alts can be toss aside when their sec-status gets too low (yes, yes... it IS an exploit to do that... but really, when was the last time you heard of someone even REPORTING that offense? Can it even be proven?)
Also, "suicidal drones" are better known as "missiles." _______________________

meh, missles can't change targets mid flight, as for the trade hub situation, i think it would be fair to outlaw them in certain systems

Didn't expect you to actually post the idea here or I would have actually put some thought into it!

True... but once the drones commit "suicide" they're not going to change targets anyways (because they're... like... dead).

And how would the systems that outlaw it be chosen? Based on their security rating or the amount of commerce in it? Be very careful with this one because being arbitrary with where you can and cannot do things without a VERY good reason (see: "gamebreaking") is a "slippery slope" (i.e. "if you can outlaw that here why can't you outlaw it in this/that/all system[s]?").
Lore/RP-wise, how would it work? CONCORD is supposed to punish crime, not prevent it. Why the change in CONCORD's tactics? Why can't it be applied to more things in the game (ex. preventing non-consensual player on player aggression in high-sec)? How can CONCORD prevents ships from ramming into each other in "this" system and not another?
Because "it's cool" has never really been a good reason to introduce new mechanics or change them. And mind you... it's not that I don't LIKE the idea... I just see it being abused in ways I cannot even conceive of.
edit: Might I also add that cost has NEVER been a limiting factor in EVE. Look at Supercarriers and Titans. The time and cost to build them was supposed to limit them... now there are thousands of them. _______________________
