So.. A few days ago i finally finished training for a Hulk and was very happy about it because i have been mining in a Retriever for nearly a year.. I bought a Hulk for 198Mil of hard earned ISK and then fitted it up..
Day 1 of mining went great and i had a good time doing it and pulling in alot of ore to use for manafacturing..
Day 2 i warp to a belt.. Turn on my mining lasers and about 10 minutes go by when a BS warps in on me and destroys my Hulk..
198Mil down the drain not including fittings..
Why is this Acceptable too you CCP? I would very much like one of you to comment here and tell me.. To be absolutely honest im not even angry about it just very dissapointed because of the work i put into getting it..
Why can i not insure a Hulk for its full worth? i know its Tech 2 but they are so easy to gank it seems and in a ship that costs nearly 1/4 of what a Hulk costs.. So why cant the Insurance be better for Hulk and other tech 2 ships?
All hard work i put in to getting it and its just gone.. Its ridiculous and it makes me rethink my subscription when i can be put back to square one so quickly and i pay for this?
Before anyone says that i am a angry carebear.. That is not the case.. I mine to manafacture to sell on the market for ISK so i can afford ships etc to PVP with..
I really would like some answers to the questions i have asked perferably by a member of CCP if possible.. This cant continue like this..
Regards Sin

I'll assume you're not a troll.
First.. If you undock, you CAN BE BLOW UP. Second.. If you can't afford to loose it, don't undock. Third.. They ARE out to get you. You are NOT paranoid. They WILL kill you. Fourth.. Fit for COMBAT. NOT for mining. If you'd had a full tank on that ship, you would have survived long enough for Concord to blow their BS up.
Learn from this. Don't expect ponies and rainbows in EVE. This is EVE ONLINE. If you don't know what that means after a YEAR of playing...

Not only do I pay out far more than NPC insurance, but I'm cheaper per dollar insured too. Here's my offer: 10 million will get you 150 million of coverage on that hot Retriever of yours (well, your next one anyhow). Just send me the cash in game with your limited API key via Eve-mail, and you're set. ______________________

They say that experience is something you get just after you needed it. This is especially true in EVE.
So did CONCORD come and whup the nasty BS for attacking you?
What... they didn't?
So you did have protection, mining in low or nullsec with a protective escort in attendance....?
What... you didn't???

Edited by: Trixie Stardust on 04/09/2011 20:43:03 Does it take a year to get into a hulk? I can't remember it's been so long. Good God man, mining in a retriever for a year? Bless your heart..
Oh, the "I mine to fund my pvp ships" is what they all say. Me included. Back when I mined, before it finally drove me utterly insane. Then I discovered something called "fishing" in real life.. sitting for hours on a dock instead of mining pixel roids, getting sun and enjoying the salt air.
But I digress.
OP, how did you get popped in high sec? I've heard tell of it, but in way too many years of mining you know it's never once happened to me.
Did you get can flipped? If so, that is your fault.
The above poster is correct, you can avoid this problem by fitting a tank. It's expensive, basically a nullsec fit. But honestly.. you're mining highsec.. is this common now? It's not hulkageddon atm.
Anyhow OP.. you're obviously trolling.. if you're not, then just suck it up. Plat insurance covers more than half of the hulk (if I recall correctly). If you can't bear to work back up to a hulk then stop crying and buy a plex. In my day, we didn't have plex -- we had to walk uphill in the snow, both ways, to recover our losses.
You want to hear sad? One of my old carebear friends, a real life girl, she worked so hard played by the rules and the culmination of her eve career was getting into a freighter. She got popped second day, going for a sweet mineral deal in .4.
And you know what? She didn't complain. She didn't cry on the forums. She took it like a man -- her only fault was that she'd just never PVP'd, she just didn't appreciate the risk. I think she quit soon after that.. I still feel bad for her, I don't care if she was a nerd I respected how hard that girl worked. And she was *honest*, you could trust her and that's golden in Eve.
She was a friend, I should have helped her replace that freighter. Anyhow OP your loss was minor and it's part of the game.. why are you crying.. man up.

No, it takes 55 days, 22hrs, 49 minutes and 50 seconds on a new character with no implants to fly a hulk with T2 strips :D

I call BS on that.
But just in case: Welcome to EVE. Getting your stuff blown up is the entire point of the game (and, by the way, the main reason why you can sell the stuff you produce). If you want to avoid such events, mine in high-sec for CONCORD protection, mine with friends for backup, have someone scout, at the very least have your hulk ready to warp out the moment somebody you don't know warps in. There are several very good guides and podcasts explaining how to protect your assets.

Would you like to know a secret?
Would you like the absolute best protection available in high sec for your mining operation?
This is the closest EVE has to a 100% guaranteed method of making certain that CONCORD will be there when you feel you need them.
Ready for it? Here... we... go!
Make a second account. This can be a trial account. Fly the pilot on the second account, in a noob ship (ibis, velator, reaver, the amarr one) to where you are mining in high sec. Have the second account lock you and shoot you. Once CONCORD blows your "alt" up, dock in a station and wait out your GCC. Once the GCC is gone, undock in a noob ship and shoot your hulk again. Do this for the entire duration that you're mining.
CONCORD is limited by how long until they appear on grid. However, once they're on grid, they respond immediately to unauthorized acts of aggression. No offending ship will get more than a single volley at you. And, very few suicide ganks will be willing to tee off with CONCORD already on grid.
Aside from having someone shield repping you constantly, this is the safest way to mine.

Quote: Fourth.. Fit for COMBAT. NOT for mining.
This is a pretty typical lame response to a common problem for miners and either Hulk tanks need to buffed or insurance needs to be buffed. Hulks are in fact MINING vessels with no "combat" or "defensive" bonuses and sure, they can be tanked to withstand a lone wolf but they cannot withstand 2 or more.
They are not 30m disposable Brutix's enjoying max insurance, they are 200m specialised vessels with little to no insurance. OP has a perfectly valid point.
Of course, said miner can hire 5 guys to sit all day with enough sig and DPS lock to alpha a ganker but this is not practical.
One thing that will help Sin is to mine with a boosting Orca with shield link and warfare mind links instead of mining boosts. (or use a command ship with links for boosts as well.)
Neither of these will help the solo miner. Only suggestion is to use a Covetor (buy some BPC's to make them), insure and worry not.
Ganking is a part of life, it's not going to change. There are a lot of lazy (and/or noob pvp'ers) that need to be able to kill something so they can get their kicks.
Eve is what it is...

It's ONLY an exploit if the pilot that flies the noobship is being recycled on a regular basis. If you can do that by NOT abusing the trial/buddy system and by NOT constantly biomassing pilots to create new ones, then it's a-ok with CCP.

Nothing says you can't keep using the (soon to be) -10 char, keep a li'l frig in an Orca close by, grab it after you warp in your pod and start shooting until CC arrive. No need to recycle.
Can't see it being an exploit because it's using game mechanics. Recycling chars is an issue though so use tip above.
(In fact, a -10 dude I used to fly with uses this trick to (you guessed it) gank high-sec miners. Go figure.)

In fact the only (exploit) issue that I can see is by creating unacceptable levels of server lag.
