tl;dr: Launchable probes that can result in false positives for people using combat/core scanner probes.
__
Much as I hate it when I have a difficult time scanning down a site because it's made to be difficult to scan down, I was wondering about the idea of being able to launch a probe that, when active, would result in false signatures for anyone else who is scanning.
New skills: Astrometric Jamming Signature Distruption Signature Instancing Combat Instancing
Module: E-war probe launcher (req: Astrometric Jamming lvl 1) Same size & power grid usage as the Expanded Probe Launcher, however it holds a maximum of 4 probes.
Probes: Probes with overlapping effect radius result in 50% decrease in effectiveness Signature Disruption Probe (req: Signature Distruption lvl 1, Astrometric Jamming lvl 1) effect: -2% scan resolution on core scanner probes within 10AU. Signature Disruption Probe II (req: Signature Disruption lvl 1, Astrometric Jamming lvl 3) effect: -5% scan resolution on core scanner probes within 10AU. Combat Distruption Probe (req: Signature Disruption lvl 3, Astrometric Jamming lvl 1) effect: -2% scan resolution on combat probes within 10AU Combat Disruption Probe II (req: Signature Disruption lvl 5, Astrometric Jamming lvl 3) effect: -5% scan resolution on combat scanner probes within 10AU. Signature Instancing Probe (req: Signature Disruption 5, Astrometric Jamming lvl 3, Signature Instancing lvl 1) Effect: Acts as an instance of a cosmic signature of random type (grav, radar, ladar, mag). 2AU effective radius per level of Signature Instancing trained. Basically if someone is scanning using core scanner probes, and one of their probes lands within the range of the Instance probe, it will produce a signature. With Signature Instancing trained to level 5, an Instance probe would act as a false signature that, when warped to, would turn up empty (though the person who scanned it down would have the opportunity to destroy the probe). Combat Instancing Probe (req: Signature Disruption 5, Astrometric Jamming lvl 5, Signature Instancing lvl 3) Effect: Acts as an instance of a combat or cosmic signature (setting chosen by pilot). 2AU effective radius per level of Signature Instancing trained.
The skill Combat Instancing would be required to extend the effective radius of Combat Instancing Probes beyond 8AU, with a max of 32AU. However at level 5, Combat Instancing would allow the probe to be configured as to what type of ship it mimics.
I'm sure there are gaping holes in this, but I figured I'd present it as a basic idea and let it ride.
In a very rough sense this could be considered like modern day defenses used by aircraft, where they eject various items to mimic reflective, thermal, etc. in an attempt to evade incoming hostile objects.
