Edited by: Reginald Ruettelplatt on 08/09/2011 01:28:26 Hi,
anyone know where i could get a list with the base prices for the differnt modules in EVE? I'm thinking about letting my character learn thermodynamics so i can try out the overheating feature, but i'd like to know if i'll be able to afford the repairs for damaged equipment beforehand.
I read that the repair cost on stations for damaged modules is up to 50% of the module's baseprice if the module isn't completely destroyed and up to 100% baseprice if it's destroyed, but i couldn't find a list of baseprices for the different modules.
So if anyone could post a link to a list with the baseprices for the modules or share his own experiences with repairing overheted mods (how expensive is repairing tech 1 guns, tech 2 guns, shield hardeners etc.) i'd appreciate it.

Overheating is only really used in PVP. It can be occasionally useful in PVP to overheat your weapons to help kill a tough rat or to extend your tank while you are trying to get out while scrambled, but it is not something you will regularly use.
In pvp you are overheating so as not to lose your ship and/or kill your opponent quicker and/or ninja that kill mail. Cost does not really come into it.
If your Alliance has control of an outpost in 0.0 they might offer free repairs which you can abuse at will.
Edit - look into manufacturing nanite repair paste. That stuff is expensive and allows you to repair modules in space.

Edited by: Reginald Ruettelplatt on 08/09/2011 14:24:42 I was thinking about learning thermodynamics because i'm not so far away from learning it (only electronics 5 to go) and i figured it might be useful to get rid of a few tough ships faster in level 4 missions (i haven't got that many dps yet). If i could use it on 3-4 occasions during a mission without completely frying my guns and the repair price isn't astronomical it might help reducing my mission time. So the things i'd like to know after reading your post are
- how many times can i overload a full gun rack without frying the guns fully (is it possible 3-4 times or are they fried after the first try, assumung thermodynamics around level 3 or 4)? - if i need to repair a set of named tech 1 guns that cost 8 mil on the market, is the repair cost for such a gun around 3-4 millions or more around 100-200k ? I know you suggested evemon, but as i understand it i'd have to give away my account information to a 3rd party in order to use it ? - what benefit do you get from a killmail? (haven't done any pvp so far)

I am not familiar how the base cost of items is figure. I just repaire as needed in station if no paste is available.
As said above overheating is mostly used for pvp, but can be very beneficial for pve, especially if you are in low sec.
As for giving up your account details to use EVE-Mon, all you need to enter is your limitade API key. This does not give up the ability to access and control your account.

When you overheat a red bar creeps round the edge of the module icon showing how far you have overheated. So you can overheat it all in one go or overheat in bursts. If you overheat too much then the overheated modules will go offline completely (the whole rack).
Repair costs have always been relatively small. I don't believe they are in any way directly linked to the market prices
Evemon only asks for your limited API. Any corp you join will ask for the same thing as a background security check. Your account is safe. You really really want evemon (or eveHQ).
Killmails are really just for bragging rights. They are also useful to see how your opponent was fitted after the fight.

Thanks,
i downloaded Evemon now (great tool, just wasn't aware what 3rd parties are restricted to when i give my api key away). If the repair cost isn't that high i'm going to learn thermodynamics if i can add a little dps here and there for a small isk amount.

If you need to overheat to do level 4s, you should not be doing them yet.

I can do them well enough to prefer them over level 3's, but ofcourse more dps is always welcome. If overheating is any good for missions i'd probably learn it even on a machariel so i need to fit less tank and can overheat the hardeners if the need arises.
