So what's new?
I've played the game on and off since Sept. 2003. Eventually just handing my account over to a friend in 2009. Though, looks like he used it only for 5-6 months before deactivating. 4 years later, here I am after thinking my character was gone. Always amazed at how EVE is still going strong. My attention came back due to e-mails from CCP to rejoin. Guess my friend didn't bother to change any account info, so I recovered it. Back in the day, I thought CCP deletes accounts inactive for a year, guess not anymore. Now I'm returning to the game with 5-6 month amnesia of what my character did while I wasn't playing.
Looks like my friend joined a corp with my character, Quantum Knights, so I don't know anything about them.
I always lacked direction in this game, causing me to drop out many times. The problem, always tried to be a lone wolf, but quickly found that isn't practical in EVE. During my first 30 days I mined, bought a Cruiser, then had a financial set-back paying a ransom. This sort of killed my desire to play early on, just a game, but felt like I was back to square one. Mostly logged on to keep training going. Almost got back in when new missions were available that took you into special zones to fight npc to complete them.
Always been hesitant to join corps as I didn't want the game to be run by them. Bit of social anxeity too. Was worried I'd have to play more hours to keep up with a corp, or the loss of reward in playing the game if everything was handed to me. I just want to be a casual player where no one has to rely on me, but helpful if around. But I'm open to corps now, especially seeing as there's one for just about everybody.
I suppose it doesn't always come down to making isk, but hopefully making friends along the way and some fun unique situations. I also like exploring, which I found had too much risk and little reward in those early days.
- Can anyone list or give a career path example on ways to play and be productive in EVE these days?
- Or tell me what's your favorite part of EVE that keeps you coming back and what you do in it?
I'm just so overwhelmed with the scope of everything. Often learning something new just creates more questions and mystery. |

For me it was finding what I wanted to do and going for it initally (wormholes). Now I log in because I want to chill with my corp mates, and have fun playing eve with them. I thought I'd enjoy solo play or trying out different career paths when I first started Eve, but ended up frustrated, bored, and no clear sense of direction. Again though, to me it is all about the people I play with. |

You might want to read the EULA, specifically the part about sharing accounts, and then re-word your post. |

In before you get banned for account sharing then promptly rage quit. Mining Barge buff: CCP-áhas acknowledged that miners in general-áare too stupid to make the correct fitting choices to make ganking them unprofitable. |

Interesting. When you say share, you mean like two people using one account to pay one subscription fee? If that's what it means, that's not the situation or the intent. In the end of 2008, what was the option to give your character away to a friend? Was that character transfer option available then that I see now? In hindsight, it might not of been the best idea. But the plan was to never share. No other person has access to this account. |

I think its best to find what you want to do and then find a corp who dose it, but are still casual, there are plenty of casual minning corps, mission corps, industry corps, pirate corps, anti pirate corps, and some npc 0.0 corps that wont hassle you to take things to fast as long as you participate when you can. The only time i have felt hassled to log on when im told is in a sov holding 0.0 alaince. |

Why was everything done in 1976?
Welcome back. Try Incursions or FW; PvE or PvP respectively. There's also Red or Blue as mentioned, and then there are other things. You would have left a little before Wormholes I suppose, so might not be a bad idea to look up Tech 3 ships and check them out, the Orca? was around that time, and maybe see what wormholes are all about. Maybe I was actually sleeping in front of my computer and dreamed I posted. Certainly, it's not there now. |

Quote:Always been hesitant to join corps ... That leaves Faction Warfare and solo play. Faction Warfare will open you up to being attacked to the two opposing factions though where ever you are at though. Solo play, regardless of what you may think, is very doable. Set your own goals if you decide for solo and then go do them.
Someone has already posted that there are more laid back corps around that you can join up with. Talk with the locals around where you play and you will find an abundance of them.

Career path is really about finding what you enjoy and then just doing it. Do you like making things? Grab some BPO's or BPC's, minerals and go at it. Planetary Interaction is something else you can do to become a producer and isn't that complex.
Do you enjoy shooting people in the face? Go grab a frigate and start hunting in low or just join up with Faction Warfare. Just because your not pvp'ing in a Titan does not mean the fights in smaller ships cant be a blast. Frigates and cruisers are cheap and wont bust your wallet if you lose 3 or 4 in a day while learning again.
Best advice. Find what you enjoy and do it. Fly safe. o/ When it comes to PvP, I am like a chiwawa hanging from a grizzley bears pair of wrinklies for dear life. |
