Well few months ago Planetside2 had 50k+ likes more than Dust514 had on facebook. Atm PS2 has around only 15k+. Well i d say Dust514 is getting more and more popular. I dont say it is a groundbreaking indicator, but still it shows a tendency which can be at least a bit relevant.
Also what i noticed is that PS2 had lot more of advertising on FB than DUST514. Which is a good thing considering that DUST514 is catching up. Alos what i noticed is that lately EVEonline is getting advertised a lot on FB. Aint that a wrong move, shouldnt CCP go all out now on DUST514.
PS. Dust514 is reaching the famous 100k likes. |

Not everyone. But there are nearly 1 Billion facebook accounts, and 7 Billion people in the whole world. 8.3% of facebook pages are of fake people and several people have multiple pages.
Idk where I'm going with this, other than there are ~80Million Neck-Beards-Posing-As-Women on facebook

Actually..it is. Social media is a free and sound source of marketing and market measures for your product. If you put out a game and your competitor puts out a game, and both of you spend certain amounts of money on marketing those games, you would normally utilize different tools to see what your media impressions are and your exposure statistics to determine the affect of your marketing campaign.
Facebook, while limited, does this in a direct and simple way. If your game has 50k+ more likes than the other guy's game, that means you're getting more exposure for your game.
Do more likes mean you'll hit record breaking sales? Not completely, but it's a good bet to say it shows that your game is being noticed and will sell pretty damn well .
Does it help as a facet of analysis to justify and learn from your marketing campaign and strategy? You bet it is.
DISCLAIMER EDIT: Despite my feelings about FB as a useful marketing tool, I still hate Zuckerberg. |

How many people own a PS3 again? I thought I saw a number around 4 million? The new PS3 version they put out has Dust514 "pachaged" with it.
PS2 is going to do very well I think, but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect it to be a million person strong F2P MMOFPS. Dust shouldn't have any trouble dong just as well being a PS3 exclusive.
I also don't think people are going to be as critical about Dust514 as they will be with PS2. MMO players are a whiney group, they'll be bitching about every little thing to do with PS2. The console MMO market is really just starting, I don't see console players quite at that point were they've become jaded by an oversaturated MMO market that they're critical about everything to do with the game just yet.
I also have this strange feeling that PC gamers are generally more apposed to using sites like FB. |

For once I agree with a Goon. PC Gamers have this aversion to FB, whether it's some feeling of superiority or too much tin foil conspiracy reading. It's ridiculous, but a market fact to take into consideration when well, marketing. |

Exactly. Well i am working in a marketing agency. And in that world FB and twitter are everything. Its free and it reaches hell lot of ppl, (future) customers and it entertains the current ones. I am around social media a lot, thats why i have some time to follow certain interests of mine. As i stated, those stats are not groundbreaking but FB and Twitter can be really useful in perceiving what customers like and what not, to predict sale and to monitor competition. |

I dont use Facebook (that means I'm going to shoot-up a cinema, right?) but I can see how popular it is, and the more "likes" or whatever on social networks can only be a good thing. |

You DO know that "the thing" to do is to buy likes, yeah? And that it's a well-known thing that the VAST majority of likes that people love raving about are fake? So that makes your post, what? A waste of bandwidth?

Actually, if you do some reading around the Internet, which you could do without FB, might I add, you'd see that people actually care about FB likes. They care a lot.
So just because a handful of EVE players are terrified of FB and live behind 37 proxies and 128 firewalls and think the government is trying to steal their idenity, doesn't mean everyone is as tin-foil hat-loving as you.
Welcome to 2012.
And to the derper calling likes fake, your hat has a few holes in it. No company in the right mind would spend the amount of money you would need in order to garner that many likes. People like videogames, deal with it.

Also if u notice the "Talking about this" parameter, it shows how our community is lot more active than that in PS2. PS2 even having 10k likes more (btw DUST caught another 5k likes since i opened this topic), it has 4 times "TAT" less (5k "talking about this" against 20k of DUST).
"Talking about this" is ppl liking, commenting, sharing, mentioning, tagging etc. the page. Like always New Eden community above all other :DD.
Dust having "TAT" stat so much bigger than the one from PS2 will prolly mean that it will catch PS2 in likes pretty soon because lot more ppl are "talking about it" obviously :DDD. It can also show a hype for the game too. I predict a nice opening for DUST because 20% of "talking about this" is pretty rare and good indicator.
I ll show some % of "Talking about this" of other games:
EVE 7% PS2 has 5% WOW 3,8% GW2 3,4% Rift 0,5% TERA 0,45% SWOTOR 0,42% GW 0,3%
Take in mind that the longer a page is on FB this indicator drops slowl. EVE got some 20k likes in this month only i think.
In conclusion. If u want more ppl trying New Eden, really, spam on FB. Like, share comment, tag. FB might be lame but it can be a really powerful tool. |

So u say that is better to have less likes or maybe even 0. Your reasoning is a bit odd. Well i tell you. It is way better to have 100k likes than 50k what was like 1-2 months ago. it means more ppl are interesed in it, more ppl know aobut it and some more will get to know about ti from those new 50k likes. The more likes the more it will spread, simple reasoning. And yeah 100k likes is a nice milestone in FB world. |

This is not about "coolness". People without FB has simple common sense because they know how can be your personal information abused. (this also applies for Apple products or google account). And dont think that those people dont socialize. They do..... via encrypted software and chanels, not because they are criminals, but because they appreciate their privacy.
