Hey CCP team :) , Great game LOVE IT!
I attacked a player who had a big wanted sticker on them the other day, and my security rating fell in a very large way.
Now I wanted to chose an EVE career in law enforcement, in a way to offset all the pirates out there and add a little spice and risk to my gaming enviroment.
Some of us would like to choose the Light side over the dark side, but it is difficult to effect a felony stop on eve without becoming a criminal yourself.
Could you please take a look at this, it seems that if they have BIG RED WANTED on there character sheet they should be fair game, to bounty hunters law enforcement and good citizens of eve.
This could very well be why pirating is probably the best way to go these days.
Anyway thanks for the great game and i hope you take the time to look into this.

Well... merely having a price on your head does not make you a de-facto criminal. For example I could place a 500k bounty on your head for no better reason than to make the point. But you wouldn't be a criminal would you?
You need to exercise a little caution about where you do your bounty hunting. Try doing it in low sec space, you'll probably enjoy the experience a bit more.

That would be logical if the pirates were blockading, Pking and hunting in low space... this one was in a .4 JOBS - Got Moin?

Theres no such thing as a citizens arrest in Eve unfortunately. Ridiculous but true.
You could take a postshot at the interstellar equivalent of Bin Laden and still get shot down by Concord if you're in the wrong part of space.
It's so very wrong.

You can place a bounty on someone with a SL of 2.0 or less.
You can only attack a player (without a SR hit) if they have a SR of -5.0 or less
So, someone could have put a bounty on his head and he could have a SR of 0.0....
Read the Support Section of the website....
Of course, this is all you get officially. Rumor is the rest....

Personally -5.0 is rediculously low before you don't take a SR. We all have seen the noobs with around -0.7 on their heads who therefore should be safe. But as soon as you kill someone 'illegally' that should open you for combat in any space, at any time, bountied or not without ANY penalty to the attacker.
I'm glad I did it on a convoy killer char but recently I claimed a 500K bounty on a -3.1SR and got a -2.7 SR of my own... sorry that's COMPLETELY wrong. If anything my SR should have gone up ( heck concord even recognised it as a valid kill be giving me the cash - which no doubt did come off another player - but it went via concord. ).

You couldn't put a bounty on my head SPECIFICALLY because I'm not a criminal. My sec status is too high. Bounties require a sec status below I think -2 or something. Sorry.
Edit: wtf this thread is from 03. WHO AM I YELLING AT AGAIN?!

Edited by: Mutosuki on 21/09/2007 03:56:37 Note: this change could adversly effect suicide squads, which means the whiners have a chance and some protection against them, which means less whining, which means more enjoyment for all!
despite this being from 03 (is it really? hm), it still seems very relevant today.
The idea of bounty hunting is to kill people for money. Lets consider a few facts.
1. bounty hunting is supposedly law sanctioned to bring in criminals. hell, as long as someone has a warrant on them, you can be a private bounty hunter IRL all you want, and as long as you stay within certain guidelines, you can bring them in. 2. bounty hunting in this game means murder. you have to pod them to get it. 3. bounties are are handled by a bounty office, and they are overruled by concord. 4. realistically, concord should be accepting bounty hunting. whats the point of the bounty office? real criminals cant come near empire guns without a good tank and some support.
the whole system of concord/empire/bounty office interplay dissatisfies me. after all, bounties can only be placed on people who have been criminal. but I've seen many criminals without bounties, because they dont meet the required negative level for having a bounty on them. so, concord dictates when and where bounties are placed, but then disallows you to collect them unless they drop even lower while bountied, at which point they're flashing red anyway and wont be in highsec, and very likely will only be in lowsec or even 0.0
If I had the choice, Id rather that a bounty means theyre attackable by all, and they are like a criminal in respects that anyone can attack them and loot them, but deciding to go after them shouldnt get concord on the bountied person if they choose to fight back. sort of like concord saying if you want to risk it, its between you and him. this opens up whole new levels in the gameplay. you could actually bounty hunt, and consider how much people whine about ganks? well if someone had to lose a ship AND implants because of ganking, they'd think twice next time.
really, anything negative means they've done a criminal act, because concord only cares about you shooting at other pilots or neutral parties. its a NRDSI thing, or not red, dont shoot it. below 0.0 should be bountiable, and anyone should be able to collect the bounty. Concord tries to save the victim, the bounty hunter goes after the escaped criminal. sounds good to me. I want to be able to bounty hunt. it'd also help all those Indys and freighters out too. everyone would be happy, and suiciders wouldnt have it so easy
