http://www.firstcoastnews.com/topstories/article/276426/483/Cable-companies-cap-data-use-for-revenue
This subject comes and goes, but with internet data usage caps starting to gain traction again, I thought it important to ask: How much data does EVE Online use in an average hour of play(not including VOIP and other supplemental programs)? I want to try and estimate my usage in case Data Cap plans become the norm, but I live with 2 other people so I can't simply look at ISP documentation.
Any information on this subject will be greatly appreciated. Furthermore, how does the EVE community (or any MMO community) feel about these potential changes?

EVE uses very little, you will not be affected. Skip one youtube/month and you'll be set.

I don't get why people are having data cap issues.
My roommate who just so happens to work for tech support for our ISP never had any issue going over our data "allowance"

Not sure if this was rhetorical or directed at me. Either way, I wasn't referring to anyone going over caps, just that ISP documentation will reflect the entire household and not individual usage. Utilities are split here, so if I'm using more I need to compensate with my contribution. Thus the question. |

More to the point, EVE really doesn't use very much data at all. I highly doubt you'll even come close to your cap playing EVE, unless you click on all of the pron links in fleet (and really, who doesn't?) http://themittani.com/features/local-problem A simple fix to the local intel problem |

Since your first response I've clocked 3/5 of a megabyte. That leaves plenty for pron! |

And yes, bills are always split evenly. But, newer/high end routers log each computers data individual usage. There's also widgets that log it too! "Being drunk is a good disguise. I drink so I can talk to a**holes. This includes me." |

Doing some quick google-ing looks like most people report roughly 1 Gig/month based on a few hours a day of play. Obviously using voice increases this a bit. |

Thank god i live in Europe, a place that is somewhat free from "nickle-and-dime" capitalism that emerged since the soviet union imploded and gave corporations free reign everywhere except North Korea. |

Maybe you have the wrong roommates? Not from Australia?
It's a serious problem here and more so for people on mobile broadband which is prevalent due to our geography.
I get 18gb / mth for $79.00. Running 3 PC's (wife on Facebook and kids on whatever they play) - 18 gb gone in 20 days or so. Have to wifi the the 3gb allowance we have on the mobile to get the next turnover.
Those on Telstra (our national carrier) get a maximum of 15gb for about $100 something.
And yes, in Australia attempts are being made to get a service approaching 100mb/s and we have people in government saying we don't need it - and won't ever need it. Seriously!
When the major telco tells government that 512kb/s is a fast service, what more can we expect?
But then, I remember the days when I paid $5 an hour for 9600bps to use SLIP, so can't complain too much I spose. |

Nope, Canadian here...
My "Plan" costs me $46/month for 80gb at 3MB/sec. Anything over we get charged $2 per gb for a max of $50 (unlimited useage), which a 50% discount is applied afterwards. "Being drunk is a good disguise. I drink so I can talk to a**holes. This includes me." |

And this is one of the better dealers.
Note that I am talking 3g/4g wireless broadband ( a neccessity where I live ) versus fixed line services which are generally much cheaper. |
