Due to a lock of resources in the art department, CCP had to reuse the door from the Minmatar quarters. They felt, since all of the player base has probably turned off their CQ, it is the door they are most familiar with and did not want to introduce a new door for fear of inciting more riots and having more terroristic attacks against indestructible statues. Damn, the new Captain's Quarters look nice! Makes me regret picking Minmatar for my first character. Personally, I think the rusty inside-of-a-Giant-Secure-Container-look is a bit boring, though, but still fitting for Minmatar. CQ is definitely developing nicely. Since I just updated both processor and GPU, I look forward to turning CQ back on to take a look. If useability improves enough, I may even leave it on...though I would still like to spin my ship in the hanger...that would actually be almost fun itself, stand on your balcony and make that big battle ship spin.
Would be nice to have the user option of keeping a racial quarters, that you can customize to some extent, or station default quarters, which would provide some variety.
Still waiting patiently to hear some good news about general updates to Eve that you are (hopefully) working on. |

Holy crap in the spring you released an expansion that totally ****** the game. You have been loosing numbers ever since and your answer to that is more of the same? Do you guys have any clue what you are doing? What part of unfuck the game don't you understand? Your theories were wrong. You are loosing players not gaining. At what point will you re-evaluate? The only reason I even have account time to rant on this forum is because I was dumb enough to pre-pay a year thinking I'd be playing this game for ever.
You guy are clueless. Totally out of touch with reality and your customers. Your ploy to drop your customer base and chase after a new one did not work. Have fun in the unemployment line. |

I hope that as well as lens flares, the Eve future will be full of STABILITY. The CQ isn't much use when--even with a pretty hi-spec rig--having it enabled crashes my system with alarming regularity. I came within a hair of dumping EVE altogether out of disgust at the stability problems. The only way I can play the game is with CQ disabled.

Why would which room you see be determined by what ethnicity your character is? If I go to Japan I'd expect to see Japanese architecture, not some quaint english village because I'm english. Some people just don;t think logically, of course the station interior would be determined by the race of the station you docked at!
Glad to see the missing CQ's finally though, looking forwards to them arriving on TQ at last. They all look suitably suitable. http://uglebsjournal.wordpress.com/ |

Hey Torfi, is it possible that when the "ship spinning" functionality comes out, we can have a checkbox in the options that will give us a choice where it opens into?
The reasoning I have behind this is because say I docked, then I'm in ship spinning mode, then got out of my ship. If I'm doing my thing in the CQ and eventually in the station, say I undocked from my CQ - the next time I dock, I will go directly to the CQ. Say I just wanted to do a quick salvage dump before going back out - this would defeat the purpose of having the ship spinning view in the first place.
It also fits with the immersion of the game. When someone docks, it's accepted that you see your ship in a hangar bay. Then to leave the ship into your CQ. It is nice to be able to undock from within your CQ though, it saves lots of time. But I don't think people would like to go back into their ship every time just to undock.
Personally I'd prefer the ship spinning as "default" when you dock ALWAYS. I love the CQ, and will definitely spend lots of time in the stations, however I prefer the freedom to choose, not based on what my previous actions were.
Thanks for your time. |

Honestly, I'm a bit disappointed. The Gallente CQ looks almost exactly like the Minmatar CQ with different textures and the Caldari/Amarr look like re-textured versions of each other. I understand wanting to get the things out and working, but a little more variety in the actual room and the design of the space would have been nice.

Your wrong. The more avenues to experience EVE as a sci-fi simulator the better. Sure, don't neglect FiS (the bulk of what makes up EVE), but why limit it to just that?

I see it appears the other races have taken a cue from the Minmatar of not including private washrooms in their quarters either. Shall we have communal facilities then that we can access when WiS launches? Nekkid avatars taking showers together?
It might sound silly but it's a small detail good for added realism. For example, the Normandy in ME2 includes three washrooms which are semi-interactable, fun for the lulz-factor and simply a "nice touch". If "EVE Is Real", you don't honestly expect us to suspend disbelief about being spat from our pods fully clothed and dry? You don't even need to have a full bath, just an indication (a door!) there is one. If this was near the pod gantry it'd be easier to swallow that during the docking "blackout" the avatar is cleaning him- or herself up. :)
Otherwise, I like what I see and I'm looking forward to the Gallente quarters. The sofas in all iterations look pretty stiff though, more like something you'd sit on in the waiting area of a doctor's office than what you'd want to lounge around on at home. I'm not sure anyone would be really comfortable on them (does all of New Eden shop at IKEA?).
Emoglee wrote:You still don't get that nobody gives a **** about CQ.
Yes. ditch years of investment in tech and months of work on CQ's because the first iteration face planted in its opening months. Seriously, WiS was announced at fanfest 2006 and CCP have been working towards it since then. Or, here's a thought, finish the job that was already 90% done and then move on. The question was never if they should finish the CQ's as it would have been an utter waste not to. Its about what comes next.
The changes the players want are primarily about game mechanics, finishing CQ's were always a job for the art department and the artists are not the people who should be dealing with rebalancing capital ships. http://uglebsjournal.wordpress.com/ |

It would be really nice if CCP would prioritize stability over cutting-edge CQ graphics. What are your system stats? Why should that matter? Going from "playing the game at the high end" to "the game nukes my computer" without any change in system requirements is Bad regardless of the system stats. That's one of my bigger pet peeves (besides the regular stuff), the constant decay of client-side performance. |

does this mean that as more assets are built for the station environments, you'll be able to augment your captains quarters to have more rooms/ a different layout or am i thinking the wrong way round??
If i am, have you thought about the possibilities i just eluded to? ie. for a price per room upgrade, u can upgrade ur captains quarters with different rooms and different layouts. |

I can only hope that upgraded quarters (whenever those get released) will be flexible in how you can upgrade and not just tiers, but rather purchasable modules...I hope for isk...but if it is aurum I won't complain as long as it doesn't give someone enhanced game-breaking advantages. |

I really like them as well. Just hope we get to "personalize" enough so that we have a home away from home anywhere we go. Kind of like a "CQ" kit that we carry around in our ships... or a "basic requirements" list that the station manager should have of me when i dock, and he diverts his station's resources to catter to my needs.
After all, i spend more money on senseless purchases in one day (like buying 8000 faction missiles for a fight when i'm only going to use 80) then entire world-nations spend on their annual budget. Best news since Incarna was deployed.
As to the CQs, they look damn pretty, and I'm sure that took some serious work, but I'm still not turning that on. Way too much of a resource hog and no functionality that justifies it. I'm firmly on the "EVE is a spaceship game, damn it!" crowd, at least until WiS actually has content, features and a point to it (and doesn't turn my computer into an overpriced electric grill )
Please do refocus on spaceships that go pew-pew , fixing the broken stuff and finishing the half-baked features and content that's been abandoned since forever.
Also, improving the Mac client would be much appreciated. (Windowed mode resolution, multi-screen spanning, performance...) |

The good news is that they have it in a testing state...so this isn't some drawing board idea that won't ever make it. This is a functional piece of software complete with screen shots. Don't be such a negative nelly. |

As to the CQs, they look damn pretty, and I'm sure that took some serious work, but I'm still not turning that on. Way too much of a resource hog and no functionality that justifies it. I'm firmly on the "EVE is a spaceship game, damn it!" crowd, at least until WiS actually has content, features and a point to it (and doesn't turn my computer into an overpriced electric grill ) Please do refocus on spaceships that go pew-pew , fixing the broken stuff and finishing the half-baked features and content that's been abandoned since forever. Also, improving the Mac client would be much appreciated. (Windowed mode resolution, multi-screen spanning, performance...)
The guy I have been harassing to give me more resolution options for the Mac client ran away to Africa, I probably need to find someone else to pester about this until he gets back from hiking Kilimanjaro. |

The CQ isn't much use when--even with a pretty hi-spec rig--having it enabled crashes my system with alarming regularity. I came within a hair of dumping EVE altogether out of disgust at the stability problems. The only way I can play the game is with CQ disabled.
My system is on the VERY low end, and while slowish (and therefore having WiS turned off most of the time while i'm stuck with my 3 year old hardware) I have yet to see it crash when active.
Invest in a properly stable computer next time. It's not more expensive. The investment is time, either spent researching your own build or spent insisting on it with your computer vendor. Also, continually increasing demand on system specs is to be expected from a continually developing game. While QC is demanding right now, so were trinity graphics for some people in the beginning. Low framerates on acceptable hardware are something to rightfully complain about, your system puking up its insides while generating them is not.
OT: QCs look very nice, but I do hope you guys get to the 'meat' of WiS soon: the interactive bit. The anticipation of the players (minus the people that don't want any of it, ofcourse) is about the establishments, corporate offices with meeting rooms and all that good stuff. Also, yay for the new old hangar view coming non-tm-soon!

I still won't be using them though, not because they don't look good but because it's basically still a singleplayer feature and there isn't really any new gameplay in them for me to play around with.
I just hope being able to walk around in stations with other people isn't too far off in the future

I get along just fine with killing people using cruise missiles.. i get along just fine sniping people with apocalypse/arty geddon/tempest.. i get along just fine piloting my dramiel and your "drake/hurricane/abaddon/maelstrom" blobs aren't much to much effective against supercap blobs to begin with already (unless you're trying to pvp with a titan alone in which case you don't deserve to be in a titan to begin with) without having people abusing AoD weapons again.

They are visually interesting, but I feel that the Caldari and Amarr are cold, uninhabitable spaces that I wouldn't want to occupy. I also feel that the spacial qualitys are strange, especially the placement of the bed. It worked in the Minmitar design, but I don't feel it works in the other racial designs. I realize this is a game, but players like to feel cozy in their virtual space, not uncomfortable.

Even most of my time in station nowdays goes with all kinds of market/s&i/contract/asset tweaking there are still times when my screen isn't filled with various windows. Those are the times when I really love to leave hangar, enter cq and enjoy the content what you guys have created there.
Of course it would be nice to have the public area open and something meaninfull to do, but at the moment that is secondary and can be pushed as far to the future it takes from the crew who is working with it.

I don't know that they have that much intention behind the design. I know the NeX upgrade CQ will likely be larger, but I don't see them being more spacially comfortable.
These first CQ's are meant to be the most basic option, functional and cheap over comfort and luxury. The upgraded versions will presumably be more homely as it will be something you invested in to make a home, rather than being the station you happen to be visiting.
These come as part of the docking service, a budget hotel, the upgraded versions are more like buying your own house or renting longer term. http://uglebsjournal.wordpress.com/ |

I honestly hope that any customization options available in the future are on a per-station basis, and do not magically apply to every single station you ever dock at. Immersion is important to me, and creating a sense of "home" at a particular station will have a much more positive effect on immersion than just making it a generic "upgrade all my docking rights at all stations to CQ level 2" or something. |

I imagine it will work on a per-station basis, given that NeX items are equipped on a per-jump clone basis. If I JC then my monocle is left behind in my hangar as an item, I'd assume a similar approach would apply to items that go into my CQ, if I want toown a fishtank, I need to put it in my cargohold and move it around.

Yo Torfi, Fallout... I dig the new CQs, especially the Caldari one. Which is awesome, because my chosen home just happens to be a Caldari station. I was keeping my fingers crossed for a good implementation, and what can I say... thumbs up.
However, there's this teensy little thing I'd like to have, that would make me like all the CQs even more:

however the hangar view seems heavily bugged, i can only access it by logging a docked character while not having checked the load station... after undocking or switching to CQ, i can't go back to hanagr view without login off and coming back (i made a bug report about this) |

However, I've got the "load station environment" unchecked. When I dock, I get the old ship spinning hanger back. There is then the "unboard" button.
Now, I'm expecting this button to send me into Captains Quarters. After all, why else would it be there? But it gives me THE DOOR!

Excellent! I've been waiting for this. Now when I wake up in a station after a late night run, I'll at least know whose space I'm in.
Wait, I have to sleep sitting up on the sofa since I still can't lie down on the bed.
And still no bathrooms? Surely you don't expect me to walk down those stairs and use my Pod?
But overall, another great job from the Art Department.
I care about BOTH WiS and FiS. The WiS helps me feel like EVE IS Real. And hopefully working on WiS will eventually lead to the time when a mission leads me to an abandoned ship or Alien outpost and that I will actually be able to explore the insides of. When I first started playing EVE, many parts of it reminded me of the old Traveller role playing game by GDW. I enjoy the space battles, but I'd also like to see EVE expanded to include the exploration and adventures that Traveller gave me so long ago. Time will tell.
Good job, guys! |

Well, might I bring it to your attention that we Minmatar and Gallente have a good relationship overall. It was the Gallente's love of liberty at all costs that was, in part, what inspired the Mnmatar Rebellion.
Perhaps today's station designs are a testament to this very thing. Two groups of people who borrow and share ideals may thusly borrow and share decor. |

At the idealistic end there won't seem to be a toilet on the space ship at all, but as you move toward the cynical end the chances increase of a bathroom, then a toilet and finally a scene in which someone uses them. Chances of the facilities being poorly lit, poorly maintained or just plain dirty also increase as you get closer to all out Grim Dark. May also occasionally be used to demonstrate to the audience the intended placement of the work on the Mohs Scale Of Sci Fi Hardness. If the creators go through the trouble to demonstrate, say, the placement and function of a bathroom on a spaceship, then it serves as a means of showing that they have given good thought to the travails of space travel.
I think EVE is on the GRIM DARK Scale, and we need toilets.

Adding entirely new, from scratch, graphics/content/anti-lag measures/etc take a bit more time than adding a few exsisting textures/graphics with different names and colors than the old ones.
CCP likes telling thier subscribers about things they are working on as they are working on it, or even before they start, and generally take player input into consideration (dont kid yourself, they listen often.)
Some people think CCP should only listen to them, just because a couple of others agree with them (100 others agreeing with you is still jsut a small ammount of subscribers). You, the oens who agree, and the ones who oppose are all lsitened to and compromises are attempted, and it is my opinion alone that CCP do a pretty good job of this (they rolled out the next step in Incarna, while appeasing those who dotn want it by returning spinning ships)
If a company waits until jsut before they release soemthing before they tell their subscribers about it, it gives the illusion of a speedy rollout. BUT that method leaves NO room for player input.

Are the Captains Quarters decided upon your character's racial origins or on the Station Builders nation?
i.e. as a Sebiestor will I find myself in a Minmatar CQ every station or will I get a Caldari Quarters if I dock up in a Caldari faction station?
I truly hope it is the latter as to otherwise this represents a rather glaring slap in the face to the Prime Fiction of the game. After all no Amarr station owner would in his right mind construct station quarters to suit the tastes of the slaves they own nor would the Caldari / Gallente be designing their quarters to accommodate the desires of their racial enemies.

need more lights, way more.
only the gallente CQ have enough lights. and minmatar really need some...
also while on low shaders, only the gallente CQ have still enough to see, all the others are totally dark.
my favorties are the amarr one for the balcony, really nice, and the gallente for the interior, which really feel spacious and confortable.
caldari one is not bad, but it feel really small. seems also strange seing that it's the caldari one which have the more space for the TV... though it would be the bed, a desk, or something more simple which would be the center of caldari
on the other side, i think the gallente one is too much normalized, too perfect on the space allocated for each thing, it miss a little something... like for example the big spot for the TV for example like the caldari one, or a little bar near the TV ^^
also, there is no books on the amarr one, that's ridiculous, pax amarria at least must be here ! when you leave the ship for balacony you really feel the mystic thing, but when you enter the room, you only feel a bit of richness (the doors are very nice for example) |

Some issues with the incarna version on SISI.
IDK If this has been said already as I haven't got the time or patience to read through every thread.
1) My character has lost about 1/4 of his body-mass, which isn't fixable in the character customisation - please fix this before releasing.
2) My character floats about 2 inches from the ground, a minor issue that detracts from the realism, hopefully will be fixed.
Will add more if I see them!

CCP likes telling thier subscribers about things they are working on as they are working on it, or even before they start, and generally take player input into consideration (dont kid yourself, they listen often.) Some people think CCP should only listen to them, just because a couple of others agree with them (100 others agreeing with you is still jsut a small ammount of subscribers). You, the oens who agree, and the ones who oppose are all lsitened to and compromises are attempted, and it is my opinion alone that CCP do a pretty good job of this (they rolled out the next step in Incarna, while appeasing those who dotn want it by returning spinning ships) If a company waits until jsut before they release soemthing before they tell their subscribers about it, it gives the illusion of a speedy rollout. Theres a thread about it on test server forum, with player-proposed fixes.
I had the problem too, and managed to get it fixed. On a related note, I dont know if its because I used my old test server folder instead of fresh copy of the live client, but my character doesnt look like it should in CQ. I was particularly paying attention to the size of my nose.. Its as if the facial proportions were changed or reset to some different standard, and the body seems smaller in comparison to the head too. This must be fixed before going live with it. |

An additional comment now that I've had a chance to see all the CQ's "in person" on Sisi. They are all great. My one complaint is that the info screens in the Caldari CQ are too transparent. You can see the items on the wall behind them and that is very distracting and make the screens hard to read.
Though I do like what looks like a door with a window that might move down to enclose the bed. Too bad it doesn't really work and we also can't lay down. :-)
But I look forward to seeing these in game. |

I do too.
Larger quarters, or a different/cozier room layout would simply be the different quarters (obviously designed by the people that designed the station) you would have to choose from when you dock at a station. Certain opulent floor plans could possibly only be available if you're a member of a corporation that has an office there.
Items to customize your living space may be a different story (IE: tapestries on the walls, etc.). Personal decoration (as opposed to a "style" of room available) would probably need to be shipped ahead (theoretically) or carried in a small cargo bay in your ship or pod. Of course, this would mean that if you got podded your personal items could be lost.
The best solution to personal items might simply be that you either purchase them for each station you typically stay at, and stations where you are "just passing through" would be without them unless you specifically pack them up and bring them with.
Again this option, while more realistic, lends itself much better to a NeX that has lower price points. To kill the enemy and break their toys!

I posted a bunch of bugs yesterday, I hope they are to some use (and that they get fixed before deployment to Tranquility!) * Choosing rightmost eye-liner i character creation displays a set of white, black and grey 3D objects around your toon. See youtube video.
* Drag-n-dropping system name from upper left corner of screen into a chat window is broken. It displays strange text, the link works initially but once "return" is applied, the link is not created nor available for the other blokes in the chat channel
* Standing in front of the mirror you enter character creation by clicking the mirror. It turns out it's a magic mirror, because when you exit character creation you are standing outside in your hangar! Cool - instantaneous teleportation!
* Ship-spinning (I personally havn't missed that, but good that you fixed it so we can have some peace and calm from all the whiners...): when entering, then undocking, then docking you end up with the "load screen" displaying an empty piece of universe with nebulas and stars and stuff....you don't get back to the ship-spinning neither to the captains quarters. I suppose you should end up in the same state that you had when undocking? Pressing the "enter captains quarters" does what it sais, and then you can get back to ship-spinning mode.
Also, I think that the parameters setting the face of my toon has been changed? My dear old Emmy Mnemonic toon does not look the same - at all! Her jaw is much different from before. Perhaps this is something I caused on Singularity at some point, but I'm note sure. Not entering this as a bug atm.

Well, when we get our Customizable CQ, how's it going to go wherever we go? Or is it going to be customized at each station we visit, etc?
I think there's some good questions revolving around that for sure when we hit that point. Maybe we do get our "hitch and trailer" CQ that we can take around us, or maybe you just have to customize any office you visit frequently.
It's an intriguing question either way.

Well I wouldnt mind if we had to customize each station separately as long as we could customize it.. It might be one way of "creating a home" like was mentioned in the brainstorm-blog regarding future eve development some time ago. I forget whose devblog it was. Or the customizations could be an ingame item that you could buy and move to your next home.. |

There isn't even any head room... Sakaane

There were some fairly serious stability issues with that build so they're currently testing a more stable branch on SiSi. They'll be back at some point but it's been a chore trying to get CCP to narrow down when. Andreus Anthony LeHane Ixiris CEO, Mixed Metaphor Media Consultant, Voyeur Studios |

Watched the video, the new CQ environments look fantastic!
The Gallente styling is really well done - very sci-fi feel to all of them.
It's a shame to hear that actual player interaction has been postponed beyond this winter's expansion - I could unfortunately see it getting postponed indefinitely...
Great work - looking forward to it. |

I agree. This is the biggest worry I have about Incarna right now. After all the effort that was focused on rolling out Incarna... it falls significantly short of the goal of everything in an MMO... namely multi-player.

COMMON AREAS, not vanity quarters
Now instead of vanity quarters, we should have had common areas!
MEET PEOPLE That makes people meet and talk in a more personal way. It would be a great way to get new people involved, get help, form groups and stick to the game.
LOUNGES Just make a lounge or something, even standing only if simpler.
SHOW YOUR STYLE As for the vanity clothes?? not loving them but at least those that buy them can show them off yes! .... gates are like roids, dont give in to beer camping
now lets welcome the high sec in with open arms, err open gates, then slowly close the doors behind them... hooked on excitement again...... while the old carebear and camper doze zzzzzzzz ! |

YES for INCARNA "too"
I don't use CQ myself, thou they look awesome, great job on the graphics and all.
I would use common areas, lounges, meet places.
Please do continue while balancing the main focus of the game, spaceship.
Incarna is about getting fresh blood into the game AND making so many loners connect to real people, real groups, real corps, real and long lasting fun.
???
Now when will that door open from QC so I can get out from looking at myself and meet others?

I really like the new racial station environments.
Some days I think they are too bright, other days they feel a little dim. I think it would be awesome if we could change the light levels ourselves to fit the mood of the day.
I originally did not care for (wis) but I have changed my mind. I like what has been done so far.
I also wish I had more freedom as to where to sit instead of one spot on the couch. It would be better if I could hit a key and the character would sit, as in other games.
I enjoy the spaceship side of things as much as the next person, but I hope CCP can find the resources to continue the development of stations too.

I wonder if there are any plans to allow us to pick our captain's quarters later on. Just because someone is of one race does not mean they share the same taste in style with everyone else in their race. There is also the roleplaying reasons and it is always nice to have options (not unlike how we can fly different ships) instead of being forced into a room which is something I would expect from a theme park MMO not so much a sandbox.
Either way it's nice to see some progress is being made looks like I'll have to create a Gallente now. |
