Is the DX 11 upgrade still on the cards?

No.
And that Unifex normally has the final say, so at least two more.
But it's still time for more.
And they haven't even been starting rambling about season gifts yet, that's another 3, at least (possibly with 2 more for corrections).

I recall it being mentioned at fanfest that we would be getting avatar tattoos this year, but that seems to have been conveniently hushed up.
It seems the days of expansions like Apocrypha and Trinity are long behind us, never to return. Which is a shame. Expansions in EVE have become far less exciting than they used to be. And they certainly don't have the wow factor that expansions like Apocrapha did.
I miss the days when expansions brought a renewed sense of wonder to EVE.
Are you serious???
Major Frig rebalance (essentially doubling the number of viable t1 frigs to fly) dessie rebalance Major Cruiser rebalance (essentially doubling the number of viable t1 cruisers to fly) new dessies (doubling the number of viable dessies to fly) Major Changes to NPC AI (which is very much needed) Big Changes to FW Completely new Crimewatch System with HUGE changes to aggression mechanics New Bounty System
and the release of Dust too....
plus more info to come....
so, what exactly qualifies as a "big expansion"? I'm very pleased with this expansion!!! |

NPC AI, Go to the retribution website .. there are three items there. I don't know where you got the rest from. Those three items are Crimewatch V2 Bounty Hunting A new frig and four new destroyers. And no. I do not count balancing as new content or even expansion worthy material. It's simply an ongoing activity that needs to be done for a healthy game. I know of no other game that does some re-balancing and calls it an expansion. Expansions are meant to be just that .. expansions .. as in expanding the game experience. Anything else is just a patch.

3 out of 8 of your features has been the work of 2 devs. Imagine if they had all the devs working on dust working on eve instead. That is what would be a big expansion.
The complaint about lack of new eve content comes from the fact that eve currently isn't ccp's focus. Ccp employs enough staff to fix old stuff and add new content at the same time, the problem is that they are choosing to invest their money in a somewhat risky project rather than in the old faithful less risk one. I wouldn't mind a 1yr development cycle. I could as well, but people tend to start getting bored after a few months... and bugs get addressed much quicker this way. With a 1yr development cycle bugs could be addressed quicker, not only because things are in development longer so they can be easier to find and fix prior to release, but also because they don't release an expansion then rush into the next one. You would still release bug fix patches during cycles. Your first point is correct though.
Actually quite the opposite.
Larger and more complex releases make it far more difficult to track down the root cause of any bugs that creep into the release. Smaller, more frequent expansions are what is making it possible for problems to be address so quickly over the last year or so.
If you are still unconvinced, feel free to look up any dev blogs that deal with their more frequent release schedule. Note that the upcoming expansion is a bit of a break from the pattern they have established recently as it will also include the DUST interaction and is scheduled to take a bit longer.
You might also keep in mind that the smaller, more frequent release schedule have been generally VERY well received by the player base. To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |

Whether its good or bad business is yet to be determined. What we do know is that eve development is the compromise and I'm pretty sure that is what this thread is about.

People have a right to complain if they feel that they are not getting their moneys worth.
While I like the game, I did hate how the last few years of the game have been.
CCP left the game in a backburner while working on WoD and Dust.
The fact they had the audacity to say: "We should be good customers by allowing ourselves screwed in the ass for 18 months."
Waiting a year and a half while CCP to put majority of their money and effort on other games.
While its good to work on games, it should never be at the expense of the consumers experience in enjoying the game.
We waited years for Incarna and we got what? A single room that is 4 times more hardware intensive than the actual game itself, some ******** microtransaction items(which CCP once swore it would never do).
Call me crazy, but you think this died with Incarna?
Think again, you should be aware of the re-sculpting for PLEX. The abomination of the NEX and Aurum still exists (CCP should have removed it). The dangerous method of running is still with CCP, waiting to arise again when people have their Guard down.
TL:DR; We the consumers and players must remain vigilant. We must be swift and just in rejecting things that have the potential to destroy the game. |

Uh, there's already a huge emphasis on "fixing what we already have". Tiercide: fixing what we already have. Bounty hunting: fixing what we already have. And so on.
I suppose one might argue that the things being fixed were so badly broken that they're effectively a "new shiney" because they were unusable before, but come on now.
If anything, I'd say that CCP have fixed so many long standing issues that they could justifiably tilt the balance back a little towards genuinely new stuff. I don't mean go back to the bad old days of "throw stuff at the wall to see what sticks", but a commitment to introduce at least one significant genuinely new gameplay feature per year. Basically alternate a "new feature" expansion cycle with a "fix and rebalance" expansion cycle. MatrixSkye Mk2: "Remember: You consent to unconsensual PVP the moment you press the "Undock" button." |
