I agree with the OP, I can't see really any change. It's like the Emperor's new clothes. Perhaps there are some mild tweaks that can't be seen at first glance, and are more clear if you do a side by side comparison with the old vs the new. *Shrugs* I just think they could have invested the time better reviewing their new minmatar destroyer myself. *smirks* |

Since they seem to be redesigning the tier 2 battleships does this mean that the Amarrian engineers will finally be able to finish off the Apoc? the reason I never flew one for many years was the fact that the arse end of the ship just looks completely unfinished.. a "That'll do" jobby, rather than properly designed engine cowlings/venturi tubes...

I like it, although it's understated.

The current Megathron has a somewhat cartoonish look with the giant front-end. The new version is a definite improvement.
Still, what battleships really need is a retexturing more than a model redesign. Zooming in and seeing the windows blur ruins any sense of scale. |

And which one of you three logged onto EVE last, saw a Megthron/Vindicator and went "Jesus christ that ship is ugly, it needs a redesign" and which of you went "Oh, it's a Megathron"?

Its not about pretty/ugly, thats a matter of personal opinion. I bet that CCP have a list of outdated models that they take care of in the right order. |

Then if they are updating models based off a spreadsheet instead of what EVE players think looks bad then my original comment stands |

Replacing the ones with bad textures and polygons is way more important then what a few players wine on the forums about. |

Begs the question tho.... why is CCP fixing stuff that wasn't broke..... Because the art department works on graphics that need updating, not bug fixes. To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |

You have to admit, it's a big improvement.
I suppose you could Fraps yourself doing "things" in the Captains Quarters and then play them on the big screen? I think it's pretty safe to assume the Dominix and Typhoon are high on the to-remodel list. CCP seems to be taking a hard look at the ugly-for-ugly's sake or low poly ship designs. To their credit they are creating a lot of new ships in this release.
4x new destroyers ORE mining frigate Megathron Tempest Stabber Imicus (this hasn't been talked about much but is coming) Heron - this makes me wonder if they aren't planning on redoing all exploration frigate models, Probe and Magnate included, but they haven't said anything yet Punisher? I think I read somewhere this model is being remade or touched up Incursus? Same. Apparently has a shorter antenna on the new design
I'm almost certain they're working on a new Rifter as well. I forget where I read it, but it's rattling around my memory. |

Looks like they've slightly pressed on its top, flattening it out a bit.
But also, a single hard-point on its sexy curves?!?! Why would you do this? |

I do like the new model, however, are there meant to be three number 8 hard-points?
Does the second 7th one sit on the corresponding site on the far side of the hull, or has the bottom point been incorrectly labeled?

Megathron has never been a good looking ship for me. I don't understand what people see in it. That's just me. If anything is high on their redesign list it should be most if not all of the Minmatar line of ships followed by the vast majority of Caldari frigs and cruisers. In all seriousness some of these look like some guys bad crack dream. Minmatar ships have very few good looking ones if you ask me. Not including the new Tornado I would say the only two I really like are the Rifter and Hurricane. EvE is not about PvP.-á EvE is about the SANDBOX! |

It's smoother. If they really want to improve that things look, I'd say bump the bridge up a ways and give it some depth. Always thought the Mega looked a bit absurd; it still does if this pic is any indication. What is it with Gallente and shoes anyway? zubzubzubzubzubzubzubzub |

Here's a WAG:
It's prep work for the tessellation upgrades. There are flaws in the original model which meant that it wouldn't work. So they reworked the base model, the bump maps and the textures.
That is a WAG though.

Look, it shouldn't be in any way able to be confused for frowning and it certainly shouldn't get a fat arse/gut.
It's the blaster gunboat, looking up at it from your hanger it should be a wall or cliff of as much firepower as is possible to cram into a 'economical' battleship design as possible. There is no excess size or mass to the design, except where it would allow moar damage, thus the front end is a chiseled wedge or pair of horns. If it doesn't look like it could be agile enough to turn and bring a fearsome gundeck to bear on you/sink it's teeth into you should you stray too close, you're doing it wrong.
And while it may be organic it's also a space ship, if the more minor thrusters need to be somewhat away from the main bulk to function efficiently, they're fine being in thin nacelles rather than absorbed into an amorphous blob of a main hull. Equally the underslung drone bay is perfectly fine as is. Extra parts should look like limbs/organs rather than cancers.
And it certainly shouldn't have bloody sansha/caldari spikes.
In short CCP, bin this bad idea and do some proper work on the caldari hulls. Or a possibly more lightweight dominix, not a fatter Mega. |

Forgive the lack of real effort; I used Paint, and it really doesn't do much. I'd extend that Bridge tower back and down from there, and off the rear of the model as it is now. Sort of a sloping, bridge section with probably a galley looking out off the back. zubzubzubzubzubzubzubzub |
