Agreed. IF it comes to fruition, however, I think it's gonna revolutionize the space sim/mmo. This IS the guy who created Wing Commander, after all.
Then again, they also said that about Daikatana. |

Looks really cool! Very ambitious project, and the ever-vaunted Newtonian physics. I'm very interested to see what a sandbox MMO with a single player mode looks like. CCP Goliath | QA Director | EVE Illuminati | @CCP_Goliath |

I actually like SWTOR. It's no Eve, but I dig it.
The problem with SWTOR is all EA, and this guy won't let EA or another EA-like company near his stuff. He's done for space games what John Carmack did for FPS.
Remember, he's a movie producer as well...he's not hurting for cash. |

The same thing was said about these 2 games. Dark Prophecy Jump gate Evolution
Dark Prophecy is going out of business. Haven't heard anything about JGE in ages it may even be vapour-ware by now.
They were all moving in different directions (development wise), but a twitch based flight-sim has to compete with CoD etc. |

Comparing this game to DP is like comparing Eve to a Facebook game. Watch the video.
I really, REALLY like the fact that he's championing PC gaming and eschewing the console trends. Notice the Saitek flight stick...I've got the same one that I use for Falcon 4. IF this game pulls through with its promises, it will revolutionize everything in space gaming. I'm very skeptical of any MMO that is F2P or single payment(like GW2). Though another Sci-Fi MMO is always nice, so long as they don't go the same path as DP, which was terrible. |

As am I. We have to be realistic about everything, but I see funding as the only obstacle. The guy did WC and Freelancer, and although that's not good enough to guarantee anything, it at least can allay any fears about him screwing it up. |

Looks awesome! I hope it doesn't turn out to be vapourware.
I particular endorse the newtonian flight dynamics
I loved games like IWar and IWar2 and having the ability to manouveur in a newtonian way with real flight dynamics and thrusters to do some really cool manouveurs! |

This can go either way, depending on how you look at it. On one hand, I'm skeptical because of the donations, but on the other I feel it could be a good thing and keep all the greedy suits' grubby little hands off of it, such as EA. It will take longer to develop, undoubtedly, but once it's finished it will be what was initially promised. |

Every single "EVE Killer" failed, like EVE is some super-hero chick with bullet proof boobs that deflect bullets (but that still look great in evening wear for a night out on the town).
The only potentially successful EVE killed is a group with a name that Starts with "C" and ends with "rowd Control Productions".........

This has great potential, however I don't think fights will ever be on the same scale as EVE. I will buy it/try it if it does get made though.
CCP has had 9 years to polish EVE and fight against lag, I doubt a newcomer to MMOs will be able to get similar performance... |

The name "Star Citizen" is rather meh, it's almost as if they didn't put a lot of thought into names tbh. Follows GW FTP model and the GFX looks very ambitious. I wonder if they've done any research into the baseline avg for PC hardware and made allowances for that.
EVE today would have suffered limited audience (if it wasn't already) if CCP had base their GFX projections on higher-end hardware.

I don't think the fights will be designed to be like Eve at all, actually. Eve is a slower, more tactical game and this one will be more Star Wars-y. The ships will be smaller and force projection will be a completely different animal.
Eve is a bit deeper, but that can also hamstring it. |

I thought that too at first, but Star Citizen is actually a great title now that I think about it. It's like Starship Troopers; in order to be a citizen of this new world, you have to fight for it. When the main fighting is done, you can either go your own way or you can continue to fight. It's like FW. |

It's a bad name to start with and first impression does count somewhat. The word "Star" has been bandied around too much in so many games that it has become commonplace. Regardless of whether anyone would like the name to reflect the gameplay, the first picture in anyone's thought (when they hear about the name) would be .... it's some sort of a commonplace game. There is nothing unique. No mystery.
For comparison, the creators of EVE, long ago did one thing absolutely right, imo. They took names seriously. Not only the game title, but this is also reflected when you open up the galaxy map. |

I grew up on Mech Warrior and Wing Commander series... all I can say is; HOLY ******* ****!!!!!!!
All my friends were jumping around with Mario on the original NES, killing turtles and other lame ****... I was piloting massive Mechs and waging war against the Kilrathi in space battles.
God damn I'm excited about this!
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Titans on fire outside "The Alamo" of NOL-M9. I watched massive Super Capital fleets glitter in the dark near the BKG-Q2 gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... -á Time to die. |

This project has been under devolpment for over a year, everything you see now was made with ingame assets and rendered by the game engine in real time. |
