CCP makes a big deal out of new visible missile launchers, but the fact is, I can barely see any detail on my ships when undocked, because EVE is so dark. The galaxy is poorly lit. That may be realistic 4-10 AU from the local sun, but it makes for a visually boring game, especially when the detail is there, just not visible.
Other computer games work fine for me, without me needing to tweak the settings of my monitor, so it just seems silly that all the visual detail is lost unless I bother to adjust the settings just for this one game.

Real space is also rather badly lit.. Just go out at night and see. :P
Also I am quite happy with the level of detail and its visibility. |

I can see my ships just fine, though I've noticed the game becomes brighter with lower graphics settings. I think it might be the shader settings that affect it. |

The ships used to be more brightly coloured, before the new v3 shader thing. Gleaming steel is a lot more visible than very dark-grey metal.

Space was much brighter in most systems before the background/nebula graphics update. I preferred it that way, since it felt more lively. I got used to the new looks pretty fast, but I'd still prefer everything to be a bit brighter. Even if space is dark, I'm sure that they'd have the technology to improve visibility 20,000 years into the future. I mean, they even have it today. (USER WAS BANNED FOR THIS POST) |

I don't like shiny stuff. I still find EVE too bright and the background too full of those flashy coloured clouds. The sparkles and special effects too are overdone. WoW in space. beuark . I think that darker and more logical graphisms would be more immersive. |

This and also: space is dark and if some want to see that much their ship details, just dock and admire them. (or buy a new GC/pc whatever) brb |

It's darker but looks more detailed to me. I hated the old star fields. The colors on the new star fields are much better, they don't have the transition problems; showing low-detailed steps from shade to shade, also known as corn rows. Yes, ships are darker by default due to shaders. But I have presets on my monitor, that's what they are there for, some for viewing pics and some for games etc. It's a quality monitor and makes a huge difference. Also the client has settings that can be fine tuned. |

CCP need to improve their lighting effects. The light side of a ship should be lighter and the dark side....darker. Especially for planets and stations as well.
Also, we meed belts that are always in the dark so we can make laser shows without strip miners |

Normal space might be dark, but mission deadspaces are still so bright that half the time you can't even see what modules are active on your ship without spinning the camera around to find a dark spot.
The old starfields didn't look great, but they had more variety in systems in each region. The new ones look better, but seem more generic without a lot of difference unless you're changing regions. (each system in a region now seems pretty similar to the one next door to it).
Maybe they could tweak the lighting effects from different types of stars to emit more noticeable differences in colour / brightness. Perhaps even throw in an extra visual star in some systems / wormhole space backgrounds too.

I would have to agree that the lighting seems off. I have a Claymore that is basically just a black featureless Cyclone with a blue symbol on the side. Even if I warp to the sun it doesn't get much better. The space background with the new nebula is pretty, but it ends up being too bright and interferes with game play (I use Domain Region as a good example, just look 'up') If I tried to make a type of coffee that made all of you happy, and you rated it, the group score for it would be about 60 out of 100. Break into 3 or 4 coffee clusters, and made coffee just for each cluster, the scores would go from 60 to 78. The difference between coffee at 60 and coffee at 78 is a difference between coffee that makes you wince or makes you happy. |

Maybe they could tweak the lighting effects from different types of stars to emit more noticeable differences in colour / brightness. Perhaps even throw in an extra visual star in some systems / wormhole space backgrounds too. The way the star fields are now, they're far more realistic moving from system to system. It really shouldn't change much. But I agree regarding the system stars, as in they are all fairly uniform. I'm sure it would be unrealistic to throw in things like magnetars and pulsars, but I think the spectrums of the existing stars could be better enhanced while providing greater variations to the lighting shaders in the systems for an overall difference. It's odd enough there being no binary stars as that is more than the norm, but I guess that is less important as players wouldn't spend much time looking for stars feeding off each other. |

The slight change per jump in the nebulae field view highlights, for me anyway, just how far your travelling when you realise the focal points of 2 nebulae have reversed in your view over the course of a 20-30 jump trip.
Gas/Cloud effects in deadspace & wormhole environments produce so much glare I feel the need for sunglasses to play too. I guess when everything has been v3'ed the universe will appear more balanced. |

- Binary stars as well as pulsars would be awesome.
- As would some very dark brown dwarf stars.
- Red giants having swallowed their whole system except for slagged out external planets.
- Dark systems (black holes) with their accretion disk and some external planet/rock to anchor a station.
- Resizing of the sun/sun brightness relative to your position in system.
Doesn't need to be a lot of them, but a few scattered here and there would add some great immersion experience to the game - could even make these systems have environmental effects like in wormholes, its not like the mechanisms doesn't exist already.
Edit: To stay on topic: I find the lightning and details fine. |

Anyways, I do like the darkness of Eve. But I always like change in Eve. Weapons in RL are really bright and flashy, so adding more effects to the weapons is not a bad thing. Also maybe they could add a spot light on your ship like a giant search light that has 50k distance. A narrow mind is a focused mind. |

One of the main reasons for the V3 update is to allow for better lighting effects, which will be done after V3 is complete on all in space objects.
There are other reasons, but that is one of the biggies. It is also one of the reasons by many of the new color schemes are less reflective and more of a matt finish.
The goal is to make the lighting on the hulls look better afterwards than they did in the past, along with reflected light from planetary bodies, moons, and weapons effects looking much more natural. We just haven't gotten to that stage yet. To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |

Indeed, the stars are way too bright even from great distances of over 100 AU. They need to tone that **** down. |

Hey, hey, guys. I had a novel idea.
What if the game featured an alternate environment that acted as a foil to dark, gloomy outer space? You know, something like a brightly-lit space station. And we can go in and walk around in, get this, our pilot avatars.
