I'm sure this has been asked many times before but please do something about it.
It really can't be that hard to make the graphic a different colour or just add a little tag like the t2 modules.

I'm sure they'll get right on that as soon as they finish implementing a bigger font -- (Battle hardened miner)

....there was once an idea to make the bpc's with a diferent colour than the bpo's...
....discarded when the devs said it would create a too huge and laggy db. -------------------

Don't BPC not have a number in the bottom left and BPO do? Or Vice Versa. I'll have to check that. Anyway, I just stick my BPO's in a shuttle and BPC's in another.
That's right, I use Shuttles for folders

Blueprint Originals should be Blue Blueprint Copies should be orange, yellow or copper colored.

About the lag:
This was explained earlier, one of the devs said that the blueprints, no matter original or copy, are the same item. If the blueprint has the attribute "Original: yes" then its a BPO and vice versa.
Now lets think what would happen if they would change the color on BPCs, the server would need to aquire the "Original" attribute from the DB everytime someone even looks at it. Considering there are alot of BPCs out there, it would indeed make anything DB related very laggy.
To have different color on BPCs, the BPCs must be defined as a different item in the first place, meaning the code must be changed and all BPCs converted into the new item.
Not gonna happen this year, if u ask me.

Never happen; not related to combat, so CCP aren't interested.

CCP is full of sh1t...a single bit flag would not cause lag...lame excuses from CCP, who woulda thought...

Thx Kunming i think i understand the whole problem though i thought the BPC already was a different item

it needs a solution alright, but making a BLUEprint red, orange, yellow or whatever sounds weird

the point Kunming was making is that atm, when viewing your hangar, Eve doesn't care if its a bpc or a bpo. It just checks if its a bp and displays blue, if it would query for checking if that flag is there yes or no, on top of all the other data it has to get. ------------------------------------------ The ammatar are not the enemy, they are the smoke and mirrors of the amarr. |

it doesn't display "blue," it displays a (cached on your hard drive) bitmap. and it has to get exactly the same amount of information whether it's a copy or not. reading "not a copy" is exactly the same as reading "object type blueprint copy."
i seriously doubt any dev ever said anything like that. if they did, well.. i guess i wouldn't be surprised either way. :P

Another request which will go unheard/ignored/or replied with excuses and crap results. I remember there was a discussion on this long ago, I forget the response ccp made, but surely it must have been crap since its not implemented. And btw, how difficult can it really be? Oh wait I know, as difficult as SORT BY TYPE.....

yo...erm...lil corner in the top left with an O? kinda like T2 stuff? i'm pretty sure at one point my taranis didn't have a T2 corner in it ages ago but now it does so why not change BPC stuff image with a corner on it? BS bout lag, if loading a DIFFERENT image casues problems then there's something REALLY wrong with your comp...cos it aint the server. Might be that it could be the same item just with a different value...like where original is yes/no, yes means infinite. Really though...some 10 mins work wouldn't go amiss...please?

If run == infinite Orginal Color Else Copy Color
Stick it on the client, problem solved.

Not trying to flame you, but let's be honest. If this was their explanation, and you bought it, then they can get away with murdering your grandmother.
All BPC's in inventory *already* have the "original: Yes/No" attribute in the item database. They have to in order to distiguish BPCs that have runs, from those that do not.
Adding a different *image* would add some d/l lag, since you would have to d/l a different image in order to display BPO from BPC. However, this can be easily worked around, if CCP wanted to take the time.
Each BPO image is grayshaded, and then the client renders the image with shading. Blue for Original, Red (or other color) for copy.
Hell, I've written shading algoritms before, they're not excessively difficult, and all of the "lag" would be client side, and only relevant when you're looking at your inventory, so not a big deal when you're PvP'ing.
oh, btw, SIGNED, I like this idea. --- "All of us who are concerned for peace and triumph of reason and justice must be keenly aware how small an influence reason and honest good will exert upon events in the political field" - A.E. |
