I wasn't sure where to post this, but a player followed me to a mission (I was almost done when he showed up) and he had the skull next to his name and was highlighted in red. I've had my ship destroyed a few times and it sucks, so I just got out of there as fast as I could. I forgot my drones and went back and he targeted me, so I left again. I was in high sec space (at least 0.8). I was under the impression that this was illegal and he couldn't do anything to me. That's why I stay in high sec. Or do some people just not care about Concord intervention? Is there anything I can do or can you give me any advice? Thanks. |

Your alliance is at war. You're a valid target for anyone in Sacred Trolls. |

I don't think he was in the sacred trolls corp. I checked his standings and they were all neutral so idk. |

Wherever you are in space, unless cloaked, you are scannable by any other player. This includes being in a mission.
A good scanner can be in your mission within seconds of commencing his search for you.
There are usually two main reasons for the pilot scanning you whilst you are in your mission. The first and most likely is that he intends to kill your shiney mission ship, but unless you are at war with this aggressor he can only gain the ability to shoot you if you allow him to do so. He will steal loot from one of the wrecks that you have killed and will turn flashy red. If you fire on him or make any aggressive act upon his ship ( points, neuts webs etc) he is able to shoot back. This is his intention and by agressing him, you have allowed him to kill your PvE boat in his PvP fit ship.
You may think because he is in a smaller ship that you can kill him easily, if you fire and he warps out, you should leave your mission and dock up until the agression timer has ceased. ( unless of course, you switch to a PvP ship and melt his face)]
The second reason for scanning your mission is to be able to collect all the salvage that you have created. Pilots used to make a very good living from doing this although it is less profitable nowadays. These so called ninja's will not agress you usually, and unless they find something really profitable in the wrecks they salvage, usually wont steal from the wrecks. |

If you are not a war target for him he will get concorded if he shoots you. If you shoot first he is free to kill you without concord coming by to help you out.
He was probably baiting you trying to scare you into attacking him. If you just ignore him he will most likely get bored and leave. Very few gankers will attack a mission runner as your tank will most likely keep you alive long enough for concord to show up. He won't bother if he can't get the kill. But if he tricks you into shooting first he can legally defend himself and kill you without worry of concord.
These baiters will generally loot your wrecks and turn flashy red, meaning you can legally attack them. but if you do they are free to fire back. The only defense against these players is to ignore them, unless you are a good PVPer and can take them out. be aware though that most will have a PVP fit T3 cruiser to come back and kill you no matter what PVE ship you are flying. |

One of my first experiences missioning was exactly this. I mistook an other players ship for an enemy when he grabbed some of the salvage and was red in overview. When I finally figured it out, I was confident my 'nasty' Catalyst would blow up his little frigate. This is also the time I learned about cap stable armor repping and warp scramming. Not much fun slowly getting blown up. Kind of fun when I look back at it now |

If you're in a mission and see another player ship warp into your zone then first thing you should do is right click a wreck and "abandon all nearby wrecks."
Odds are nearly solid that it is just some wanker looking to trick you into PvP by stealing from your wrecks. This is a particularly annoying sort of pest because they deliberately pray exclusively on PvE ships that they know they can beat: A subspecies of the "PvP enthusiast" who can't really handle PvP so they seek out weaker & weaker targets until they find something that they can actually handle. They're basically just a step above miner gankers on the ladder of PvP evolution. But I digress...
Anyway, by abandoning the wrecks you are denying them the power to turn red on you & bait you into PvP. It's also a silent way of telling them off in the most insulting way possible: By ignoring them completely.
Also be sure to recall & dock your drones should you have them set to aggressive, as they'll break your CONCORD response should you be attacked. Most of these types of gankers are well aware of this fact and start salivating if they see that you have drones deployed.
But if you're really good and feeling lucky you might be able to turn the tables on them by sending your drones to attack them and then recalling them the second before they actually start firing. When they see your drones closing on them they might just jump the gun and open fire first, thus triggering CONCORD on their sorry butts. EvE Forum Bingo |

This is all bad advice. Aggressive drones won't target someone who has merely looted from you. Telling drones to attack someone, however, voids your CONCORD protection. It doesn't matter if they fire or not. |

If he was red but not flashing, then it means that he has looted one of your wrecks and now that he knows you are able to attack him he is waiting for you to shoot. Once you shoot what he will do is get back to station, reship in a ship that can kill you and come back. So just ignore them next time. They can lock you all they want. Or fly a corp mate in to help you out since he will be red to your entire corporation. |

He was waiting for you to make a stupid mistake. You didn't.
Instead, you handed him the mission and ran. Good on ya. |
